Divided into 7 main exhibit areas you will have time to explore the bird aviaries, & the Primate World where monkey business is a daily occurrence. Next you can visit the Florida Boardwalk- from land, sea and sky, and then set off to the African Safari. OH MY! Our day trip starts out at the “Child of the Sun” visitor center at the Florida Southern College. We will gain insight into the relationship Mr. Wright had with this college through the displays and a guided tour of the various buildings on campus. After lunch we will head to the beautiful Hollis Gardens which was voted Best of Class Gardens. The formal 1.2 acre botanical gardens donated by the Hollis family contains water features, thousands of flowers, ornamental shrubs and much more. (Lunch on Own at Harry’s Seafood Bar and Grill). It offers an exotic blend of aromas, flavors, sights and sounds. Visit the Ybor City Museum complex which covers about one half of a city block and includes an ornamental garden, and three restored cigar workers houses. You might then choose to take the trolley or stroll down 7th Avenue, named in 2008 by the American Planning Association as “One of the Ten Greatest Streets in America”. Browse the eclectic shops and art galleries or stop by one of the many cigar stores in hopes of seeing a hand-rolled cigar being made. Stop for a cup of Cuban coffee or some Spanish Sangria. But don’t over indulge as dinner will be served at the famous Columbia Restaurant, a Florida tradition since 1905. In addition to award-winning Spanish/Cuban cuisine, the restaurant features flamenco dance performances which we will enjoy before we set out for home. Our step-on-guide will board our coach and share information on the 42 beautiful murals that adorn the buildings in this lovely town. This pristine site boasts nine distinct Florida ecosystems and an endless array of natural flora and fauna. Hold on to your seat and bring your camera.
