Electrocoagulation Technology for Water Recycling
Halliburton’s mobile CleanWave® system uses an electrical
process that has the capacity to destabilize and coagulate
suspended colloidal matter in water. When contaminated water
passes through the electrocoagulation cells, the anodic process
releases positively charged ions which bind onto the negatively
charged colloidal particles in water resulting in coagulation. At
the same time, gas bubbles, produced at the cathode, attach to
the coagulated matter causing it to float to the surface where it
is removed by a surface skimmer. Heavier coagulants sink to
the bottom leaving clear water, suitable for use in drilling and
production operations.
Smaller Footprint Mobile Treatment With
Independent Utility
Halliburton’s mobile CleanWave system provides an all-inclusive
water treatment system in two modified shipping containers. One
unit is dedicated to water treatment. Emulsified waste water is
pumped through the low pressure electrocoagulation treatment
cells and passed into any number of optional external coagulation
chambers. During this stage the agglomerated solids rise to
the top and are separated by a mechanical skimmer. Heavier
solids sink to the bottom for later removal. Chemical injection
accelerates the coagulation process and adjusts the water pH to
within a programmable range. After the settling stage, the water
passes through a media filtration stage to remove any remaining
suspended solids.
The system constantly monitors water quality and pH
characteristics. Water quality data is stored for record keeping and
analysis. A monitoring system uses a cellular connection to notify
operators of problems or errors with email alerts.
The accessory unit contains a 400 V, 50 Hz, Hz, 230, a three-phase
diesel generator capable of supplying all necessary system power
as well as power to additional equipment, such as a dissolved
air flotation (DAF) unit. The entire accessory unit, including the
system supply pumps, can operate independently of the water
treatment stage for additional utility.
