A Short Story About Sacagawea
A Short Story About Sacagawea • Sacagawea was a member of the Shoshone tribe. She lived in a small village in Idaho. • Sacagawea was captured by a tribe called Minnetarees when she was 11 years old. • Sacagawea was sold and bought by a man named Toussaint Charbonneau in North Dakota. • Sacagawea missed her home in Idaho and her tribe. • At the age of 13 she had her child. She named him (Pomp) or (Jean). • Sacagawea met the explorers, Lewis and Clark, when they visited her village. They asked for her help on their journey. • She led Lewis and Clark on the journey as a guide and interpreter, and she also provided food for them. • She was a very brave and strong. One time when they were going over rapids all of their food and supplies fell off into the river. She reached out and caught them while holding Pomp. • Lewis and Clark traded many things for gifts to bring back like fur coats and beads. • When winter came, they made a fort next to the Pacific Ocean. While they were there a whale had beached, and they all went to look at the big fish. • After all the traveling and adventures were over Sacagawea passed on into the spirit land. • Nobody knows when Sacagawea actually passed away. Some say in 1812, but others say in 1884. Nobody will ever know. • Sacagawea is known all around the world as the Indian girl that traveled with Lewis and Clark and led them on their famous expedition.
