Pantene Beautiful Lengths FAQ’s
Pantene Beautiful Lengths FAQ’s What is Beautiful Lengths? Beautiful Lengths is a campaign by Pantene in partnership with the charity Look Good…Feel Better, which encourages women to grow, cut and donate their hair to be turned into real-hair wigs for women undergoing cancer treatment. Why is Pantene involved? P&G’s - the company behind Pantene - purpose is to touch and improve the lives of consumers around the world, and as a worldwide leader in haircare products, Pantene is committed to giving back to the community. As experts in haircare, Pantene understand how important hair is to a woman’s confidence, so they want to afford as many women undergoing cancer treatments as possible the opportunity to feel more like themselves through providing real-hair wigs. Pantene started the Beautiful Lengths program in North America in 2006. Since then, Beautiful Lengths has received over 311,000 ponytails to create 24,000 real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair through cancer. Due to its huge success, Beautiful Lengths has since been launched in the UK and Belgium, among other countries. It launched in Australia on Monday 3rd September 2012. What is Look Good…Feel Better’s involvement? Pantene has partnered with Look Good…Feel Better to co-promote the program and to assist with the wig distribution process. What does Look Good...Feel better do? Look Good…Feel Better is a free national community service program that helps cancer patients, through their workshops held in over 180 locations deal with the often distressing appearancerelated side effects of cancer treatment. Visit www.lgfb.org.au for more information. Why can’t coloured or grey hair be used? It takes at least six ponytails to make a Pantene Beautiful Lengths wig, and each one comes from a different person with a different shade of hair. For a realistic-looking wig that has consistent colour, all these ponytails must be processed and then dyed the same shade. It is critical for each ponytail to absorb dyes at the same rate in order to create a wig that is one, natural-looking colour. Grey hair, and some chemically treated or permanently coloured hair, does not absorb dye at the same rate as other types of hair. It is much harder to colour and, once coloured, fades more quickly. 1 What percentage of the hair will go to the wigs? There is no reason why 100% of the donated hair will not be used if the donation requirements are met and the guidelines are followed. We want to make sure that not a single donation is wasted, so we advise anyone thinking of donating their hair to check the donation requirements on the Beautiful Lengths website www.beautifullengths.com.au. What are the requirements to donate? The requirements to donate hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths are: 1. Each hair donation must be at least 8 inches/20cm long. 2. Hair may be coloured with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently coloured or chemically treated. 3. Grey hair is difficult to use in the wig-making process, so hair may not be more than 5% grey at the time of donation. 4. Hair must also be dry when you cut it. Visit www.beautifullengths.com.au for guidance on how to make the cut. Where do I send my donated hair and how do I send it? Gather your hair into a ponytail when dry, ensuring that the length of the ponytail is a minimum of 8 inches/20cm and secure with an elastic hair tie. Cut your hair with sharp scissors just above the hair tie. Place the ponytail in a plastic ziplock bag. Place the ziplock bag in an envelope along with your name and address to: Australia: Pantene Beautiful Lengths PO Box 1237 Brookvale NSW 2100 OR New Zealand: Pantene Beautiful Lengths PO Box 302-003 North Harbour North Shore City, 0751 Further information of how to donate can be found at www.beautifullengths.com.au 2 Why does the ponytail need to be at least 8 inches/20cm long? The manufacturing process for a real hair wig needs a minimum of 8 inches of donated hair in order to knot the hair at the cap of the wig, cut it into a natural style, and offer a range of lengths for wig recipients. How many ponytails does it take to make one wig? It takes approximately six ponytails to make one wig. How do I register to receive a wig? Pantene will work with Look Good…Feel Better to distribute the wigs throughout Australia to wig banks in most need of supply. Get in touch with your local state branch of Look Good…Feel Better to find out more. Will I know who will receive my hair? It will be hard to determine which donation will go into which wig and where in Australia that wig will be distributed to. If you include your name and address when you make the donation, Pantene will let you know when your donation has been received. How do I keep informed on how many wigs are made? Information on the number of wigs created will be communicated on the Beautiful Lengths website www.beautifullengths.com.au. How long does it take to make a wig? It takes six to eight weeks to manufacture the wigs. With shipping and handling time the process to distribute the wigs can take four to six months. Why are real-hair wigs more expensive/in demand? A real-hair wig is the most natural looking option and the most durable. It can be cut, styled, permed or coloured to suit your personal taste. To source and create a real-hair wig takes more time, which is why they are more expensive and often in higher demand. How do I hold a donation event? A hair donation is a special gift and an act that you and a group of colleagues, friends or family may want to celebrate together. For more information on holding a hair donation event, please visit www.beautifullengths.com.au. If I have split ends, should I have my hair trimmed before I donate? Keeping your hair trimmed and free of split ends is not only good for the donation, but good for your hair! Our website, www.beautifullengths.com.au and the Pantene Facebook page has some great tips on having your hair in prime condition prior to donation. Can salons participate in the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Program? Yes, we would love to have salons on board! Please visit www.beautifullengths.com.au to check out all the latest news and download the paperwork to send in the beautiful donations. Be sure to share information on your event on our website. Is there a maximum donation length? There is no maximum donation length, but be sure to check out the other requirements listed on our website, www.beautifullengths.com.au. 3 Is there an age requirement for donation to Beautiful Lengths? No, we accept donations from all ages. Can I donate an older ponytail to Pantene Beautiful Lengths? As long as your ponytail meets the hair requirements on our website, it can be donated. But even though the hair may appear to be in good condition, it might be fragile. For that reason, we can’t guarantee it will survive the wig making process. What if I’ve only heard about this after ‘National Donate Your Hair Week’, can I still donate my hair? Currently, the Pantene Beautiful Lengths campaign will run until March 2013, but you will still be able to donate your after this date via the instructions on the website, www.beautifullengths.com.au What if my hair isn’t long enough but I still want to support this cause? Even if you can’t pledge your ponytail, you can help by uploading a personal story, spreading the word and sharing the love of Beautiful Lengths. Visit www.beautifullengths.com.au for further information. Can men donate their hair if it meets the requirements? Absolutely! As long as their hair meets the specified requirements, there is no issue with men donating their hair too. Do you accept human hair extensions? Unfortunately we cannot accept human hair extensions as they have already undergone a treatment and dye process and are unlikely to survive the same process again. Can I make a monetary donation to LGFB? Absolutely. Anyone who wishes to make a monetary donation to Look Good…Feel Better can do so via their website: http://lgfb.org.au/lgfb_wp/donate/ Look Good…Feel Better New Zealand donation link: http://www.lgfb.co.nz/how-you-can-help/donate-online/ Can I raise money by asking people to sponsor me for cutting my hair off?
