Moderator of the panel discussion was Dr. Ivan Dodovski, Dean of the School of Political Science at UACS. www.uacs.edu.mk Considering the financial and economic crisis in the EU, the discussion incorporated several important questions: Can the current crisis be resolved only with economic and financial instruments or is the broader crisis of political and social character? Is it a realistic and achievable challenge to build Europe as a global power? Can multiculturalism and constitutional patriotism (awareness of shared values rather than sharing a common history or ethnicity) be the foundation of a comprehensive European strategy for integration and development, instead of relying on the pervasive mindset of bankers and politicians? How much space is there for small countries and potential EU members to participate in panEuropean debate in order to save what until recently was considered a successful integrative model? Before the panel, Dr. Heinz Bongartz, an official of the Foundation "Friedrich Ebert" in Skopje, gave a promotional speech for the occasion of the publication of the Proceedings of Sixth International Conference of European integration on "Construction of Europe as a Global Power: From Market to Identity?"
