How to Publish Your eBook in Kindle and Add Hundreds of Buyers to Your Subscriber List Practically Overnight (who will buy from you over and over again for big profits). I'm Ellen Violette, and this is How to Publish Your eBook in Kindle and Add Hundreds of Buyers to Your Subscriber List Practically Overnight (who will buy from you over and over again for big profits). So, the easiest way to publish is in Kindle and it's free. You don't have to have a website-‐ it's optional, kind of, but note that you do need a website if you want to build a subscriber list. In other words, to get people back to your site and onto your list, you need an opt-‐in page, so you need people to come back to your site. Many of the experts have been saying, "Advantages of Kindle include the fact that it is free and you don't need a website." And they were selling products that didn’t include list building and getting people all excited about the fact that they didn’t need a website. But now, they aren’t saying that. They are now saying you DO need a website and getting you to spend money on new products that now 1 include list building-‐they should have been telling the truth all along; you need to get your prospects to your website. But, you always have the option-‐ if you just want to do a Kindle KDP launch for free and not deal with building the subscriber list right away, you can. But, I don't recommend doing that because the money is in the list. But there are some people who just want to take baby steps and don't care about leaving all that money on the table and I want you to have the knowledge, so you're making an informed decision. Now, Kindle does get 60% of third-‐party eBook sales, so you definitely do want to be on the Kindle. And there are a couple of ways to make money on Kindle. One is the pool of money in KDP Select and the other is sales from actually selling Kindle books. Now in KDP Select, there are new rules. Amazon affiliates will now be penalized in any month that first of all, their affiliate ID shows up on more than 20,000 free Kindle eBook purchases; AND two, the total number of paid-‐Kindle eBooks accounts for less than one in five purchases. What they're really doing is they're trying to get all these sites that are just promoting free eBooks not to do that because what's happening is people on those sites are just downloading tons and tons of free eBooks and not buying much. So that's really the issue, but it does affect some authors and affiliates as well. You can also sell and Kindle will just price it and sell it and then it’s not an issue. But, you want to do free offers in KDP select because it helps create a buzz plus, people use the eBook reviews to decide to buy and it's a lot easier to get a lot of book reviews when you use KDP. And those leads can lead to sales, but not everyone will see free offers in time. And so, since it's such a low price point, if they missed the free offer and then 2 they see it, they're still going to go buy it if they're really interested in it. So, you do end up making a lot more sales. But, the best reason to do it is you can add hundreds of subscribers quickly to a list. When people say, "I can't get started because I don't have a list," this is a way to build it, but you've got to get those buyers back to your own subscriber list. The thing is Amazon doesn't give you those subscriber names. So, that's why you have to make sure you get the names and email addresses yourself. And why do you want to do that? Because buyers buy. So, a good percentage of the people who buy your eBook, or say that they're interested, will buy other products and services if you market to them correctly. But, you don't want to bombard them with offers; you want to give great content with occasional offers and emails, and if you do free webinars those can have offers. But also, you can have offers on your bonus pages, or your opt-‐in pages, and we'll talk about that later. And the second reason you want to do this is you get much bigger profits because you get repeat buyers (once you get them on your list). So, KDP Select is the best way to start for new authors, although established authors also use it. And, as I said, you can get a lot of downloads. You get people to take the downloads; they get the buzz. They do the book reviews and that leads to sales. So what is KDP Select? KDP Select features a 6-‐million annual fund dedicated to independent authors and publishers. And if you choose to make a book exclusive to the Kindle store -‐which is a requirement while you’re enrolled in KDP-‐ the book is eligible to be included in the Kindle Owners' Lending Library and you get a share of that fund. Now, that may not sound like a lot, but it is and I'll give you the examples in a minute. But, the rules are that you can't publish 3 anywhere else for 90 days and you get five free-‐download days. You can't give misinformation or bad information and you can't have duplicate eBooks; in other words, the same book with two different titles. So who are the new rules for? They're primarily, as I said, for sites that promote free Kindle-‐book releases every day. But, they're also going to affect some authors and affiliates. So, what are they? As I said, your ID can't show up in more than 20,000 free eBooks and one in five purchases must be a paid eBook, or you're going to lose your Amazon commissions for that month and that month only. But, here's one little wrinkle. Amazon rules also count all free eBook downloads, not just the ones linked to directly. So, let’s say that you go to one link and somehow end up getting three free eBooks, they all count towards your total for that month. Now, if you're just a regular reader, one or three isn't going to matter when we're talking about 20,000. But, how DOES it affect authors? Well, if you have an eBook that goes viral and takes off, then it could affect you. If that happens, you've got to make sure that you have enough sales to offset the freebies. And it affects your affiliates, which indirectly affects you, because if they're giving away a lot of free books to try to get sales for other things or whatever, that could be an issue for them. So, if you were to drive affiliate partners to a KDP free offer -‐-‐ and I've never done that. I don't know if people are actually doing that or not. It might just be hypothetical because you're sending them to a free offer, so why would an affiliate send people to a free offer? Again, it depends on how you set the offer up, so that they're making something down the road (on the back end). But, they may be less inclined to support 4 you if they've got a limit on the number of free eBooks that they can now promote. So, the ratio of free books to paid books is 15:1. Smashwords is saying that for every 15 that people get free from them, they only buy one, whereas the new rule is you need one to be paid for every 5 free downloads. So, that can present a problem. But, the new rules also present new opportunities. Incentives for authors to send buyers to Amazon to purchase eBooks from -‐-‐ actually, I said from their download -‐-‐ yeah, from their download bonus page, or in other ways that we'll discuss later. But, you can't do it inside the eBook because they don't actually allow you to do that. Amazon does not allow you to have free books where you send somebody to paying books within Amazon through Amazon links. But, here are some case studies (for what you can earn giving away free eBooks). Carolyn McCray is a fiction writer. She earned $8,250 in one month and quadrupled her sales with the KDP-‐Select offer. These are all KDP Select. Rachel Yu, a 16-‐year-‐old author of children's books, made $6,200 in one month. And the Grabarchuk family, they do puzzle books, and they made $6,300 in the same month. And I want to say something about that because I'm really on the fence about paying for reviews. But, they actually did pay me to write a review for their eBook, and people often ask me to do that. I always say to them right off, "I will only do it if I believe that your eBook warrants it because that's my reputation on the line." But by the same token, Amazon does not like people doing that and they can ban you if they find out. And yet, here they are and they made $6,300 in a month and I happened to know that they're also in 5 the top 100. So, it’s working for them. So, proceed with caution, but I'm telling you that's what's going on. So, what do you need in order for KDP Select to work? Well, to do this you'll need a domain name, a website, and an opt-‐in page. We're going to go into how you build your list a little bit later, but we're going to talk about these things first. So, the first thing you need is to pick a domain name, and it has to be something that's easy to remember and spell that would be the obvious URL to go to. And you can get a domain name at GoDaddy http://x.co/KiT0 and I put my affiliate link in there if you want to use it. Now, again, this is assuming that you already have a best-‐selling title picked out. And what can happen is you can have a best-‐selling title picked out, you go to find a domain name and find out that all the ones that would make sense don't work. And then, what happens is people want to go to a .net or .org or a .us, or some other one and you don't want to do that-‐that's just lazy. You’ve got to go back and come up with a different title. There's an endless array of titles that you can pick from. But, if your URL isn't right, you're going to lose a lot of business, so you want to make sure that that is done the correct way. And that link is in your handout; it doesn't cost you anything to go through me and I appreciate it if people do. The next thing is you want to open a hosting account, and the fastest, most inexpensive way to create a WordPress website, which is what we're talking about here, is in HostGator-‐which I use. So obviously, I recommend it. My links for that is: http://tinyurl.com/tophosting4u. And you can build your website right in there. 6 Now, you can go to http://www.wordpress.org and do it there, but I tried to do that and I found it very difficult. I even asked my husband to help me. He is much better at the technical stuff and we really couldn't do it. But then I found I could do it through my hosting company and it's so easy. So, I’m just laying out the steps here to make it easy for you. And again, you've got them in your handout and then when you go to HostGator, you open your account, you just follow these steps. So the process is first, you're going to open that GoDaddy account if you don't have one yet. Then, you’re going to open the HostGator account because you need both for this to work. And now, what happens is HostGator will send you an email and they give you their name servers. There are two of them, okay? And then what you do is you go to GoDaddy and once you’ve bought your domain name, you then just enter those name servers that HostGator gave you into GoDaddy. That's all you do. So, you'll just click on the domain name that you're working under, there will be a little bar at the top, and one of them will say “Name servers” and you’ll just stick them in there. So, it's now pointing your name servers. And what you want to do is you want to choose. I think there are like four different ones that you can choose from, and the one you want to choose in order for this to work is, "I have specific name servers for my domain." And that's how you connect them. I always wondered how do people know how to get to my domain name? How do they know that -‐-‐ how does that URL get connected to it? That's how it get connected from the domain name to the hosting-‐by those little name servers. Now, if you're having trouble coming up with the title and you need help, there's a special report that I did on Fiverr at How to Write a Killer EBook or Book Title to Make a Bestseller, and that comes with a bonus, How to Write Compelling Chapter Headings that Clinch the Sale. That's 7 at http://tinyurl.com/killertitles-‐fiverr. If you want one-‐on-‐one coaching and have me walk you through it and help you do it, I do these 90-‐ minute calls. They've been amazing. 98% of the people actually get it done in 90 minutes with me. And that's at http://tinyurl.com/killertitlecoaching. The other way is you can always model a title that's already out there. We've talked about that in other calls, so we're not going to talk about this today. So once you create your HostGator account…. we're assuming that you've got your HostGator account and you've got your GoDaddy account. Then, you log into your webhost manager and put in your domain name. So let's say you pick the domain www.ilovelucy.com you would go to: ilovelucy.com/whm. That's it. Now that's assuming you've already created an account, or you already have an account. For people who have an account in HostGator already, then you're going to click on "Create a new account" and then you're going to put in the new name that you just got for this eBook. Enter the domain name with the .com after it, so the “ilovelucy.com”, not just “ilovelucy”, which can be confusing when you look at it at first because they don't tell you that. So, that's why I'm telling you. You enter the domain name with the .com and then you rename your site. Remember, this is the WordPress site that we're doing in HostGator. So you can't make that the root, okay? The root would be ilovelucy.com. It has to be ilovelucy.com/something; you can make it ilovelucy.com/blog, ilovelucy.com/bonuses, whatever you want it to be. And then if you want it to be the root, you can name it something like ilovelucy.com/blog and then you can have a redirect from the root and you have to ask a web person to do that for you, or I think there might actually be a way in HostGator to do that as well and you can just go to technical support. One of the reasons I love HostGator so much is they do have great technical support and they will help you. 8 Now, once you put in your domain name, it will automatically generate a username for you and you then just create a password and hit “Create”. So just pick your password, make sure that you write it down somewhere so you know what it is-‐so you don't forget it because that's your hosting. They don't want it to be easy to get in. You've got to go through a whole rigmarole for them to figure out who you are and that you're who you say you are before they'll help you change your password. So, you want to keep that information. And then it's going to fill in the rest of the information for you. So like I said, you don't have to do much. Now, if you want a video on how to do HostGator, there is one at http://tinyurl.com/wordpress-‐hostgator. But, they also have their own videos. This is one that I found that was really good in YouTube. And the reason I did it this way is I’ve bought courses and they have videos, and then they go through the videos so fast I can't follow them anyway. So I'd rather give you the information then have them in front of you when you look at the video later. And unfortunately, I can't do the video and the webinar at the same time. So, that’s how we decided to do it. Now you don't have to use HostGator. There are other website options. You can do Mini-‐Site Profits Exposed at: http://tinyurl.com/easyminisites. Marketers CSM at http://tinyurl.com/magicwebsite. Again, these are all on your handout; or SiteSell, www.sitesell.com/ellenv.html. That one has it's own domain parking. So you don't need GoDaddy. They have a blog built into it and an eBook customizer. It doesn't mean you should necessarily use that. I don't use that. I like things that are 9 cheap and really easy, and that's why I like doing it in HostGator because it's just a couple of steps and you're done, and it's like 5 bucks for your hosting. It's the cheapest account. And oh, I thought I put it in here. Well for 5 bucks, you can go get a header as well. That's what I did on Fiverr, fiverr.com. Now once you've got your WordPress blog website installed, the next thing is you're going to do QuickInstall. So now, what you do is you log in to your cPanel in HostGator at www.yourdomainname.com/cpanel. So, you go to: ilovelucy.com/cpanel. And then, you're going to click on the account that you either just created or you're going to create a new account and then you're going to go to the top of that page and it will say "Switch Accounts." So, you’ll want to make sure you're in the right account because you can have as many domain names as you want in there. So you'll have your main one, which is your root, and then you can have all your other ones underneath. So then, you’ll scroll down the page where it says, "Software and Services" and you just hit QuickInstall. Then, you’ll find the blog software name on the left-‐hand side of the page. You’ll click WordPress and hit "Continue" and that will bring it up. And that's where you're going to name your WordPress site. You're going to fill in your admin email, your first and last name, and you’ll hit "Install now" and you'll be done. So these things are self-‐explanatory when you're on the page. “Admin user”-‐it's either going to be your VA or you, your first and last name, your title and you'll hit "Install now." And as I said, you're going to get a header. And what you’ll want to do is find a “level two” designer because that’s the best and they are really 10 good at this and reliable. And then if you have a logo or a photo, you can include that into the mix. And as I said, it's like 5 bucks. So after you've got WordPress set up, you're going to purchase, if you're going to follow the way I do it, OptimizePress. Again, note, you don't have to do these things. I'm just saying that this has made my life so much easier. It changed my life literally overnight when I figured out this was really easy; here's no HTML and it looks beautiful, and I can do them in just a few minutes after I did it the first couple of times. So OptimizePress is a theme and it's such a one-‐time cost of $97. They have great training videos. I am an affiliate for them, but the link they sent me isn't right. I'm waiting to hear back from them. If you decide you want to go through me, just send me an email at ellen@theebookcoach.com and I'll send you that link. It's OptimizePress and they're at optimizepress.com. So, you’ll just log in and you’ll download OptimizePress to your computer, and you'll see at the top that says "Downloads." Then, you’ll go back to your WordPress site that you've created in HostGator and you’ll click on “Media”. The reason you’ll want to do that is you’ll want to make sure that you have enough megabytes. Now, since this is most likely your first one, you're going to have enough megabytes. If it's below six or seven then you're going to have to contact your webhost for more bandwidth. I know this stuff is crazy making when you don't understand technology but, really, don't worry about it. You can even just try to install it. I think it will tell you that there's not enough and then you just have to go to HostGator and tell them you need more bandwidth. But usually what it does is just says 64 MB under “Media” and that's good. That's what you’ll want it to say, 64 MB. So that's for “Media” on the navigation bar on the left. 11 Then, you’ll look a little further down the navigation bar and you'll see “Appearances”. Then, you’ll just click on “Themes”. So, you’ll click on “Themes” and it will say “Install Themes” at the top of the page and you’ll just hit “Install”. Again, this could not be easier. Just follow these steps and it's really easy, and they also have training videos in Optimize Press. Then, it will ask you to activate it, and the only other thing is then they'll ask you for a “user key”. The user key, you just go back to the membership site and it will say "License Your Sites" and they give you the key. Once you know what that key is, you’ll want to write that down because every time you want to make a new site, you'll have to put that key, but the key doesn't change. It creates the page; you fill it in and that's it. You're done. If I can do this, you can do this. It's not hard. But, when I said more than one site, what I mean is let's say like I'm moving my site now to empoweredauthor.com. So, I have empoweredauthor.com/bonuses and then the page that I'm making. So if it's an opt-‐in page for I Love Lucy, I Love Lucy will go in there. www.empoweredauthor.com/bonuses/ilovelucy The next one is empoweredauthor.com/trainings/ and then that would be a different one. So I can have one for trainings; I can have one for opt-‐ins; I can have one for bonuses. I can have as many of these as I want. It's not like you just have one. I have tons of different domain names and all of those can have several WordPress optimized pages. What's really great about this is, let's say you're doing a call with somebody, you just go in there and create your opt-‐in page and you can do it really, really fast. I used to obsess over (making those pages) for days! 12 Now, if you're going to do a video with it, they prefer that you use AWS, which is Amazon for your video storage. If you do that, there's one more step. You’ll just want to make sure that you make them public. When you have your videos in Amazon, make sure that they are public or nobody will be able to see them. But, the other thing I love about these opt-‐in pages is that you can do them without video. I have been doing these calls without video just because I'm having an issue. I'm trying to get my iPhone to work and it's not working and I've been going back and forth with them trying to figure out why it's not working. So for now, I'm not using video. So, if you're thinking, "Oh, I can't get started because I don't know how to add the video," you can do it without a video and just have it be text and it still looks really great. That's what I love about it. So once you've got all of that, then you can start creating your Optimize-‐Press page. So you're in Optimize Press and now you start writing right in there. So you'll write your copy for your sales page, or your opt-‐in page, whatever it is, right in there. The other great thing about Optimize Press is you don't need a lot of copy. You say, "This is what my event is about, or this is what my eBook is about. You're going to learn this, this, and this. Go here now." Let's say if you're giving away your eBook for free, you're going to have to write a regular-‐type sales page. But even so, they still tend to be shorter than the older version of sales pages. And then if you’ve got your video, you’ll just put a few bullet points down below, a few more sentences and then the "Add to Cart" button. Generally we say, "Add to Cart" as opposed to "Order Now" Because "Add to Cart" implies that you might have something else behind it… that they're not done. Once you say "Order Now" people feel like, "Okay, I'm done" and they don't expect another offer underneath that and then they might get 13 upset if you’ve got another order underneath that. So, you want to be careful. So, how do you get started in Kindle? You’ve got your Optimize-‐Press page. I want to say a little bit more about the Optimize-‐Press page before we go on. One of the other things I love about it is that when you hook up your autoresponder to it, or your order page, that used to be a nightmare for me. I took lessons on how to get the code in the right place; I could never do it. But in Optimize Press they just have a little place where it says "Opt-‐in click here" and you just go get the code out from your e-‐ commerce or autoresponder provider and you just stick the code in there and it does it automatically. So that's another reason I just love it. So now you've got that done and then you're going to set up your Amazon account if you don't have one already. Then to do KDP, go to kdp.amazon.com. So, there are four options at the top of the page, but the one you want to pick is “KDP Select”. A lot of times I'll say KDP and what I'm really talking about is KDP Select, but I've noticed that when you start discussions in groups sometimes, people, seem to get a kick out of wanting to make you wrong, so they'll call you on stuff like that. So, just be aware I'm talking about KDP Select. Okay. So step number two is you’ll just go down the page and you’ll fill everything in. It just asks you for the information. So, your eBook title. Some of you have heard me say before, 50% of your success depends on your title and that's from Jay Conrad Levinson of Guerilla Marketing. So you've got to WOW your audience with your title and your title should have the benefit, the angle-‐like a new approach, the hook-‐ and the emotional connection to your audience. That's what makes a great 14 title because your potential buyer is going to say, "What's in it for me?" So, you’ve got to give them a compelling reason to buy from you. And you want to use keywords and phrases that people are clicking on and people are buying from. So that means you want at least 50,000 clicks-‐per-‐month globally in the Google Keyword Tool. Then you’ll want to make sure that it's also selling in Kindle. So, you've got to find keywords that come up in the relevant and popular titles over on the right-‐hand side in Kindle; popular means it's selling. And step three in Kindle is you’ve got your sales copy, your description-‐ so what's your book about? What is the benefit of reading it? Why should they buy from you? And why should they buy from you now? Those are the questions that you want to answer in your copy. And in your formatting, you want to use subheadlines and leave space between paragraphs and then, of course, write compelling copy. What a lot of authors do is they just have a wall of text. People aren't going to read that. Sometimes, they just have one little paragraph-‐that's just not enough of an explanation of what they're going to get. This is the only place that you have to sell people on your eBook from your perspective, not other people's perspective like in the book reviews. So, use that space wisely. There are also other things that people put in there. Some people have cover copy, some people have testimonials, and there are just other things that you can add there as well-‐ anything that's going to sell your eBook. And then step number four is putting your publishing date in. So, that's the date that you upload your content and you can use that as the date. 15 You don't need an ISBN number, but you never want to purchase a single one. Amazon doesn’t require an ISBN number, but if you're putting it on other sites that do require an ISBN number, you’ll want to buy a pack of 10; you can buy them at myidentifiers.com/isbn/main. Again, that's in your handouts. Let me just say if you do purchase a single one it's $125 and ten run $250. So, that's why you want to get ten. And also, you don't want to buy them from publishers because then they actually own the copyright, not you. Step number five is categories and keywords. So, you get two categories and seven keywords (in Kindle). You’ll find your categories by looking at the best sellers and then seeing what categories they are in. Now, this can go on in two ways. You can look at them and say, "Okay, I want to be in the same categories as they are," or you can say, "I don't want to compete with this particular one. I want to be in a different category." And that's up to you. You have to decide on what your strategy is. And then, you get seven keywords, and again, you can find those by going to the Google Keyword Tool and then cross-‐ referencing in Kindle. Next, you're going to upload your cover and your cover needs to be 25 megabytes or less, and you can verify it by clicking on “Product Image Guidelines. The best size is 800 by 600. It's 25 megabytes or less, verify by clicking on “Product Image Guidelines”, and the best size is 800 by 600. And if you need a cover, there's a free webinar training that I did with Daniel Hall that's fabulous. He teaches you how to use a free piece of software, and make your own compelling eBook covers. That's at http://if.gd/7qdniX. And I'm sorry that it has one of those weird domain 16 names or URLs, but that's the one that Daniel made and I tried changing it and I can't. So, that’s what it is. You can also get a cover for $5 in www.fiverr.com. We also do them if you want to hire us and also if you want it so that your inside design matches your cover. We do that at ebookthis.com and you'll especially want that (design to match) on your PDF version. And also, Amazon is currently data testing a cover maker that you can connect to right from the submission form. So, you can check that out. Step number seven is DRM or no DRM. DRM stands for Digital Rights Management, and basically what this is is eBook protection. And my understanding is you can't change it once you decide, which is kind of odd. But if you use it, the good thing is if that you use it, you can still lend books to other users for short amount of time and you can purchase it as a gift for another Kindle user. Step number eight is formatting images and content. These are some of the questions that people ask me over and over, so that's why I wanted to put them into this webinar. So it's no more than 450 pixels wide, 600 pixels tall, and 64 KB in size. Now most black and white images fit in this category, so you can't go wrong if you use black and white. And there are royalty-‐free pictures at creativecommons.org. So that's 450 pixels wide, 600 tall and 64 KB in size. And then, the acceptable formats are GIF, PNG, BMP and JPG. That's for your photos. And then, you’re going to upload your eBook and people always want to know what formats does Kindle accept; they accept all of these. So Kindle Format 8, Kindle MOBI, Text, PDF, unrestricted MOBI, PRC, Audio Audible Enhanced and Documents. 17 And number ten is rights and pricing. So if it's original content, you're going to select "Worldwide Rights -‐ All Territories." That could be a tongue twister, Worldwide Rights. And small eBooks can go up to $5.99, or probably $4.99. A lot of them are $3.99, $2.99, 99 cents, whatever. The larger ones can go up to $9.99. It depends on what category you're in and what your strategy is. But, one of the things that I found working with a lot of people doing a title research and Kindle optimization is that different categories also have different price points. So, I had a client who was looking at working on (an ebook for) toddlers or for teenagers, and it turned out that the teenager one was selling for $9.99 and the toddler one was selling for $3.99. So, she decided to start with the teenager one. You can also start with the KDP Select and put a low price on it; and as the sales start to rise, raise the price; and then as they start to fall, lower the price. So, you can just play around with this. Do different launches and see what happens. Because you can do KDP, for five days, you can do one for two days and see how that works. So once you've got your eBook in there…you’re going to actually want to create the bonus first because you're going to want to put your (bonus) URL in your book so that you send people to the bonus that's not on Amazon because that's how you get people on your list. So people are always saying, "What can I offer as a bonus?" Well, you can offer an audio of your eBook or a piece of your eBook and you could do a webinar of your eBook, or a piece of your eBook; you can do them in Instant Teleseminar. My link to that is instantteleseminarsnow.com. The reason I like instantteleseminarsnow.com is because they are so reliable. 18 Whenever I've tried to use free stuff, it never works very well. It's always crashing. But, if you can't afford Instant Teleseminar there is freescreenshare.com. One of my clients told me about that. But I really highly recommend instantteleseminarsnow.com. It's what I use and I love it. You can also do a video. Demonstrate something important from your eBook, or additional materials related to your eBook. You can do special reports, and again, that can be additional material related to your eBook. As a bonus, you don't want to do the same thing that's in your eBook because they just got it for free, so it has to be something else. You can do a quick referral guide: the salient points that you want to refer to. There are a lot of different things that you can do for the bonus. The main thing is that you give them something that's going to be valuable to them and that you name it in such a way that it's exciting to them. So many times I'll be working with clients and they'll say, "Included is my bonus, or included is my bonus audio." Well, that's not going to cut it. What you want to say, for instance, is "How to Get Published and Build Your List" bonus audio. I mean call it what it is with something exciting because you want to get as many people to opt-‐in and take that bonus as possible. And then, what you want to do when they take that bonus is they're going to go to an opt-‐in page and you want to automate that. So you want to be able to market to them after the bonus. So, by connecting to the auto responders, it becomes automated and you can get those either -‐-‐ one that I like for people starting out is 1ShoppingCart at http://tinyurl.com/cartsetup. 19 Again, that's my affiliate link. I started with 1ShoppingCart. They are extremely well-‐known-‐the industry standard. And the other is Aweber, and Aweber only has autoresponders, which is why I don't really like them because when you’ve got your autoresponders in one place and your e-‐commerce in another place, it takes more time when you start doing broadcasts and connecting products and all that. So, I don't recommend it, but there are people who swear by Aweber and so my link to that is also here, sn.im/smartautoresponders. And the thing that's so great about this is that each time you do your eBook, you put your bonus in your eBook, you set your WordPress opt-‐ in page, and then you can send your potential buyers to the page where they're going to get the bonus and you only have to set each website up once. You optimize for each domain name once. And as I said, you can have a whole bunch of different ones, but each time you do it that one is done. So, we’re going to talk about the secrets now to capturing people's emails. Put the bonus link inside your eBook that sends people to an opt-‐in page. Once they opt in and you now have their name and email, you can send them to a download page where they can get your bonus. Then, what you can do on that bonus page is you can have an offer on that page. Now, again, some people might get upset about you doing this. Other people are going to love it. It depends on what it is and what the price is. That offer could send people back to Amazon. So in other words, let's say you don't even say, "Buy this book," but maybe you say, "Here are some other resources you might be interested in since you were interested in this ebook," and it could be other Amazon books that you send them back to. Now, when you do that you're going to get more sale, so that you're not just getting all those freebies if that's an issue for you, or if you find that in one month you have an eBook that 20 goes viral and you need to make more sales. So that's how you can do that. So you can get them to buy another Amazon book through your autoresponders, but not in your eBook. Amazon actually prohibits you from putting Amazon affiliate links in your ebook-‐which I think is bizarre because you think they would want to get more sales, but you can't do that. But, you can put an offer on your bonus download page, or in an auto responder sequence, as I said. You can also do a double launch with two eBooks. So in other words -‐-‐ and this is pretty cool too -‐-‐ let's say that you write an eBook and you can do this one of two ways. One way is you can write the smaller eBook first that's like a primer and then write the larger eBook that has all the juicy stuff in it. Or what I like to do is write the juicy one first because I get all my thoughts down and then I extract the lesser ones from that, and then you can offer the lesser one in KDP. Get them to the bonus. Now you've got them on your subscriber list and next you launch the bigger eBook and now they buy from you and if you run it through Amazon, you’ll have enough sales. Or on your bonus page you can say, "I just put my new eBook in Amazon and it's a paying eBook, go here to buy it." So, it will work either way. By learning these steps, you are going to have the freedom to create money whenever you need it and you're going to be way ahead of everybody else because you understand that it's not just about putting an eBook for free in Kindle Select. You want to maximize what you get out of it by having that bonus, getting people back to your site, and then offering them something else that they can buy. As I said, it could be another eBook of yours. It could 21 be an audio or a webinar of something related. It could be the next step after your ebook. It could be a bundle (of products). You can take your eBook, and I've talked about this before, and turn that into a webinar. If you do it in instantteleseminarsnow.com it will make you an automatic audio of it. You can then have it transcribed. You can go over to Fiverr.com and have someone make you a mind map, or you can do it yourself if you want to do that. And you can even add little training videos to that as well using something like Screencast or you can do it on Screencast-‐O-‐Matic. It's free. So, there are a lot of different things that you can do, and when you understand how you can do this the right way, you will make a lot more money and build your list, as opposed to just doing a free download. Because I have people coming to me and saying, "Well, great I put my free eBook in KDP and a bunch of people downloaded it. Big deal. Now what?" Because they didn't do it right. They didn't put that bonus link and now they didn't get them back to their site and then make money from those people. So, it’s not just about saying, "Okay, I went to the top ten, or I went to number one on the free list." That's just the tip of the iceberg. So now, you’ve got the information here, and if you decide you don't want to do your website in Hostgator with Optimize Press, that's fine. Do it however it's going to work for you. This is what works for me. This is how I'm able to do it really fast and these were the solutions that I found when the things other people were telling me to do were not working for me because I'm not technical at all. So if it's not easy I'm not going to do it and it was really slowing my business down. So that's the presentation. This is how you build your list and make money with KDP Select. And then, of course, you can also always just 22 put a book up in regular Kindle, and start making sales by just promoting it, but you'll also still want to have that bonus and you can still optimize it by having another offer.
