1. Logging On
•
To apply for a course at LIT using Self Service Banner you must first
create a Login ID and PIN. If you have previously been registered on any
full or part time course at LIT you can use the ID (K number) that was
assigned to you while you attended. You will also have been provided
with a PIN for accessing exam results which you should use as the PIN
here.
•
If you are a new applicant and have not previously attended LIT then you
can create your own ID and PIN by clicking on the First Time User
Account Creation link near the bottom of the screen.
•
This will take you to the Admissions Login – New User Screen. You can
now create a new Login ID and PIN. Please take note of these details once
created as you will need them to access the system at a future date to
check on the progress of your application.
•
When creating a Login ID and PIN please ensure that keep the following in
mind.
ü Your Login ID can be up to 9 alphanumeric characters.
ü Your PIN must be 6 numbers.
ü It is advised that you create a Login ID with a combination of
characters and numbers using upper and lower cases e.g.
Mary25.
Remember, your PIN must be entered twice!

2. Choosing Your Application Type

You will now choose the level of the programme/course that you wish to
apply for. Please ensure that you select the correct level here or the
course that you wish to apply for will not appear later in the application
process and you will have to start again.
There are 4 application types available from the drop down menu. You
must be aware of the Level of the course from the course description on
the website before applying here.
Most Lifelong Learning courses are considered Hobby (Other) courses as
they are of short duration. Others however have an NQAI Level attached
to them.
These are listed below:
Level 6
Building CAD with Revit Architecture
Certificate in Business Studies (IPA/UCD)
Certificate in Public Management (IPA/UCD)
Certificate in Public Management (IPA/UCD)
Construction Project Management
Diploma in Business Studies (IPA/UCD)
Diploma in Public Management (IPA/UCD)
Domestic Building Energy Ratings
Higher Certificate in Business in Retail Management
Level 7
Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Technology
Bachelor of Engineering in Manufacturing Technology
Level 8
Bachelor of Arts (Hons) (IPA/NUI)
Bachelor of Business Studies (Hons) (IPA/UDC)
For all other courses other than those listed above, chose the Lifelong
Learning (Other) option from the drop down menu.
To make your selection, select the relevant Application Type from the
drop down list on the Select an Application Type page and click
Continue to take you to the next page.

3.
Entering Name and Admission Term
After you have selected the course that you wish to apply for, you must then
enter the Admission Term for which you are applying.

Applicants for the coming academic year should select Full Academic
Term 2011-12.
Next, please enter your First and Last Names in Title Case. You may also
wish to enter your middle name although this is not entirely necessary.
After you have completed this, please click on the Fill Out Application
button to continue.

4. Application Checklist
Above you will see the Application Checklist, which shows areas where data
must be entered.
If, at any time, you have a question or would like to contact us, you may click in
the ‘Contacts us here with any questions’ link as shown. This will open your
default mail client and allow you to email the Lifelong Learning Office at LIT
directly.
After you have completed a section of data, a tick symbol will appear beside the
section you have filled in indicating that it is complete. Your application can only
be processed when all sections are ticked as complete.

5. Entering your Address/Telephone Information
•
Enter your House Number/Name etc., City, County and Nation in the
appropriate fields.
•
If you are applying for an address outside Ireland, you should choose
‘Other’ from the County drop-down list.
•
When entering your Telephone Number, please do not insert spaces as
this will return an error message when attempting to continue with your
application.

6. Entering Personal Information – Email, PPSN, DOB etc.
On the Personal Information page you are required to enter your:

Citizenship
PPSN: If you are an Irish resident it is important that you provide us with
your Personal Public Service Number. Failure to do so may result in a
delay in the processing of your application.
Gender
Date of Birth in Month/Day/Year format
You may also enter your email address if you wish the Institute to contact
you via email - this must be inputted twice to ensure it has been typed
correctly.
Click Continue once you have entered all relevant information.

7. International Information
•
On this page you must enter your Citizenship Country and your Country
of Birth.
•
If you do not find either the Citizenship or Birth Country you require,
please choose ‘Other’ from the drop-down menu.
•
Click Continue when complete.

8. Entering your Program Choice
•
Even though you have already selected the level of the course that you
wish to apply for, you now need to select the specific course that you are
interested in applying for.
•
If the course that you wish to apply for does not appear on the drop-down
list then you have chosen the wrong application type and will need to
start again by clicking on the Finish Later button and selecting New
under the Admission Term on the Application Menu page.

Once you locate the programme that you wish to apply for then select it
form the drop down menu and type in the Year of the course that you
wish to apply for e.g. Year 1, Year 2 etc.

Click on Continue to proceed.
9. Payment Details
•
This page describes the methods of payment accepted for Lifelong
Learning courses at LIT.
•
It also gives you the option to enter your bank account details. These are
required for processing refunds in the event that a course is cancelled or
does not run. Failure to supply may lead to a delay in any refunds that
may arise.
•
Before proceeding to the next page you MUST indicate your intended
method of payment for your course fees.

10. Applicant Declaration
The Applicant Declaration is a statement that you have provided information
which is true and accurate, and that you will agree to abide by the rules and
regulations of Limerick Institute of Technology. Please read this thoroughly and
select the Agree radio button if you are happy to comply with the rules set out in
the text.
Completed Application
Once you have finished inputting the required data on all sections, you will
return to the checklist screen which should have ticks beside all of the sections. If
any sections do not have a tick, you will need to go back and complete them
before you can submit your application.
You may then click Application Complete to proceed to the Application page.

11. The Signature Page
The Signature Page is a statement by Limerick Institute of Technology to confirm
that your Application is complete.
It is imperative that you print out the signature page when it appears on your
screen. You will not be able to retrieve this page once you logout.
You must also take careful note of the Reference Number at the bottom left
hand corner of the page.
This will be required should you make any queries regarding your
application.

Applying for an Additional Course
If you wish to apply for more than one Lifelong Learning course in the same
term, you will need to make two separate applications.
Click on the Return to Application Menu link on the bottom of the Signature
Page or alternatively you can Exit and login again using the same login details
used in your previous application.
Click on the New link on the Application Menu and proceed through the
checklist items again. Remember to select the correct Application Type by
choosing the correct Level of the programme that you wish to apply for.
When proceeding through the checklist items most of the data that you entered
in your previous application will be held by the system and will not need to be
entered again. However, please check that no items are outstanding on each
page.
On the Program Choice page, please select the additional course that you wish
to apply for from the drop down list and enter the relevant year of the course.
Once all of the checklist items have been ticked, you can submit your application.
You will receive an additional Signature Page with a unique reference number
from the previous application. Please print and retain this letter.
