Famous for its dreaming spires and ancient colleges of mellow golden stone, the beauty of its historic centre still takes visitors by surprise. This distinguished flagship of academic excellence is a hotbed of creative energy, a youthful, go-ahead city that feels as good as it looks. Within one square mile alone the city has more than 900 buildings of architectural or historical interest. Many of these are open to visitors and are free! The world famous university is everywhere, being a collegiate university it comprises a patchwork of 46 colleges scattered across the city. Although so many in number, they are not always in a prominent position – many are tucked away in a courtyard or passage setting and not always signposted. But delve deep and you will be delighted! And, a tip, always remember to look up! Oxford holds something for everyone, from the famous treasures of the museums with supreme collections spanning science, natural history, music, anthropology and the arts to the gardens and green spaces near the scenic and delightful River Thames walks. Oxford, too, is simply buzzing with chic restaurants, bistros, bars and quaint traditional hostelries. Oxford invites you… Whatever you do, have a great time! www.visitoxford.org Direct train services Just hop on a train and go. Trains run from London Paddington to Oxford 43 times a day on weekdays.
