How to avoid blocking your
REACH-IT account
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR REACH-IT USER ACCOUNT HAS BEEN
TEMPORARLY BLOCKED AFTER FAILING TO LOG-IN?
For security reasons, REACH-IT provides only a limited number of attempts to login to the
system. If you fail ten times to enter your password correctly, your account will be temporarly
blocked. (Errors typing the CAPTCHA do not count as failed attempts and therefore will not
result in blocking your account).
REACH-IT allows you to unblock your account and receive a new password automatically. For
this, use the “Is your account blocked or you forgot your password?” functionality available in
the REACH-IT login page as shown in the image below.
You will be asked to enter your user ID and the captcha indicated.
(In case you forgot your user ID, you need to contact ECHA via the web form available at
http://echa.europa.eu/support/helpdesks/echa-helpdesk/reach-it-user-management).
Finally, you need to provide an answer to the security question that you specified during the
creation of the REACH-IT account. If you reply correctly your account will be unblocked and a
new one-time password will be sent to the email specified in your REACH-IT account.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR REACH-IT ACCOUNT HAS BEEN BLOCKED AFTER
FAILING TO REPLY TO THE SECURITY QUESTION?
For security reasons, your account will be blocked if you fail three times to answer the security
question associated with your REACH-IT account.
If you have any of the following roles in REACH-IT: “Company Reader” or “Company Normal”
please contact your Company Manager who will be able to unblock your account. (If you do not
know who your Company Manager is, please contact ECHA via the web form available at
http://echa.europa.eu/support/helpdesks/echa-helpdesk/reach-it-user-management).
If you are the “Company Manager” and you do not have access to the email account that was
specified in the REACH-IT account which is now blocked you will need to contact ECHA via the
web form available at http://echa.europa.eu/support/helpdesks/echa-helpdesk/reach-it-usermanagement.
After completion and submission of the information required in the web form, your request will
be encoded and you will receive an email from ECHA containing a reference number used to
follow up on your request. If you need to contact ECHA at any stage, please remember to
indicate that number in the subject of your email in order to enable the processing of your
request.
Be aware that for security reasons, unblocking a REACH-IT account always triggers resetting
its password.
New one-time passwords are generated automatically by the REACH-IT system and they are
sent by the email account REACH-ADMIN@echa.europa.eu. One-time passwords are valid for 5
days and they are sentonly to the email address that is specified in the REACH-IT account .
WHAT TO DO IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE EMAIL ACCOUNT
THAT IS ASSOCIATED TO YOUR REACH-IT ACCOUNT?
If you do not have access to the e-mail address that is indicated in the REACH-IT account,
there are two possible approaches to solve this:
1. If you know the e-mail address that was specified but you do not have access to it anymore
(e.g. the person who created the REACH-IT account does not work for your company any
longer) ask the ICT department of your company to re-create/re-open that particular e-mail
account. This will enable you to receive the new one-time password for your REACH-IT
account. Remember then to change the e-mail address of the REACH-IT account after your
first login.
2. If you cannot re-create/re-open the e-mail account that is specified in your REACH-IT
account, you will have to request ECHA to change it for you. In order for ECHA to confirm the
eligibility of this request and to verify your identity, you need to write a letter to ECHA to
formalise this request.. This letter (a scanned version is sufficient) shall include the following
information:

Incident Number: INC0000000XXXXX

The REACH-IT User ID you want to unblock

Full name and e-mail address of the new Company Manager.

The reason for this change (please elaborate sufficiently to justify this request)

Indicate the new email associated to the REACH-IT account.

In case the letter is signed under a different legal entity name, indicate thejustification
for the company name change.
Remember that the letter needs to be signed by the person authorised to sign on
behalf of your company and to be attached to the request done via the web form.
IMPORTANT
Under no circumstances should you send your REACH-IT account password via email. If there is any problem with it, the password can be reset, but we advise you
not to send it to anyone including the European Chemicals Agency.
One-time passwords are valid for 5 days and they are sent only to the email address
that is specified during the creation of the REACH-IT account .
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
If the e-mail address specified in your REACH-IT account is correct and you still do not receive
the e-mail containing the new one-time password, please note that your e-mail management
system might be filtering all incoming e-mails from the domain "echa.europa.eu", considering
them as SPAM.
1. Contact your system administrator in order to confirm that you have no
restrictions on receiving e-mails from our domain and
2. try the “Is it your account blocked or you forgot your password?” functionality
again.
Remember that after your password has been reset you will be asked to change the one-time
password during your first login.
Remember that the CAPTCHA used to confirm the login does not affect the number of login
attempts; therefore it is not a cause of an account being blocked.
