You can view these events from both the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager and the Nimsoft Unified Management Portal (UMP). The advantage of using Nimsoft to monitor the events is that you can monitor multiple RHA servers from one central location. For more information about the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager and the UMP, see the CA Nimsoft Monitor Getting Started Guide. The RHA probe queries the RHA Control Service (CS) server at regular intervals to get the RHA events and converts them to alarms. The probe then sends the alarms to the corresponding Nimsoft robot. The robot collects, queues, and forwards the alarms from the probe to the corresponding Nimsoft hub. The hub collects the alarms from the robot and distributes them to the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager and the Nimsoft UMP. How to Deploy and Use the CA ARCserve RHA Probe for Nimsoft 5 Overview The following architecture diagram illustrates how the CA ARCserve RHA probe collects the RHA events and sends them to the Nimsoft server. 6 How to Deploy and Use the CA ARCserve RHA Probe for Nimsoft How to Deploy and Use the ARCserve_RHA Probe for Nimsoft How to Deploy and Use the ARCserve_RHA Probe for Nimsoft The ARCserve_RHA probe lets you monitor RHA events from the Nimsoft monitor. The benefit of using Nimsoft is that you can monitor multiple RHA servers; however, each RHA probe can only monitor one RHA server. The following diagram illustrates how to deploy and use the ARCserve_RHA probe for Nimsoft. How to Deploy and Use the CA ARCserve RHA Probe for Nimsoft 7 How to Deploy and Use the ARCserve_RHA Probe for Nimsoft Perform the following tasks to deploy and use the RHA probe: ■ Review the Prerequisites (see page 8) ■ Import the ARCserve_RHA Probe Package to the Nimsoft Server Archive (see page 8) ■ Deploy the ARCserve_RHA Probe to the RHA CS Server (see page 9) ■ Configure the ARCserve_RHA Probe (see page 9) ■ Monitor CA ARCserve RHA Alarms (see page 11) Review the Prerequisites Verify that the following prerequisites exist before you install the ARCserve_RHA probe: ■ The Nimsoft robot is installed on the RHA Control Service server. For more information on how to install the Nimsoft robot, see the CA Nimsoft Server Installation Guide. ■ The Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager is installed on the Nimsoft server. For more information on how to install the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager, see the CA Nimsoft Server Installation Guide. ■ You have access to the Nimsoft Unified Management Portal (UMP). For more information about the Nimsoft UMP, see the CA Nimsoft Monitor Getting Started Guide. ■ You are familiar with the details of the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager and the Nimsoft Unified Management Portal (UMP). Import the ARCserve_RHA Probe Package to the Nimsoft Server Archive To install the ARCserve_RHA probe on the Nimsoft server, download the ARCserve_RHA probe package from the Nimsoft website. The probe package is a zip file that the Nimsoft server would automatically unzip when you import the probe. You can save the zip file to a desired location. Follow these steps: 1. Download the ARCserve_RHA probe package from the Nimsoft website and save the package to a desired folder. 2. Log in to the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager as an Administrator. The Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager UI is displayed. 3. From the Console pane, expand the Archive listing and click on the Nimsoft hub. The existing Nimsoft packages are displayed on the right pane of the Main window. 8 How to Deploy and Use the CA ARCserve RHA Probe for Nimsoft How to Deploy and Use the ARCserve_RHA Probe for Nimsoft 4. From the right pane, right-click to display the task menu and select Import. The Open dialog opens. 5. Navigate to the folder where you have saved the package and click Open. The ARCserve_RHA probe package is extracted and imported to the Nimsoft server. Deploy the ARCserve_RHA Probe to the RHA CS Server After you import the ARCserve_RHA probe package to the Nimsoft server, deploy the package to the RHA Control Service (CS) server using the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager. You drag and drop the ARCserve_RHA probe package to the robot on the RHA server. Follow these steps: 1. Log in to the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager as Administrator. 2. From the Console pane, expand the Archive listing. Select the Nimsoft hub and click Application. The ARCserve_RHA probe is listed on the right pane. 3. Drag-and-drop the ARCserve_RHA probe from the right pane onto the Nimsoft robot running on the RHA CS server (listed on the Console pane). The View Distribution Progress dialog is displayed to show the status of the deployment. 4. Click Close Dialog after the deployment is complete. 5. Select the robot and click Application to verify the status of the RHA probe on the right panel. A green dot symbol indicates that the probe is successfully deployed. The ARCserve_RHA probe is deployed on the RHA CA server. Configure the ARCserve_RHA Probe After you deploy the ARCserve_RHA probe, configure the probe to specify the RHA server credentials and the events that you want to monitor. Once the probe is configured, it polls the RHA Control Service for critical events and reports them to the Nimsoft server. You can review these alarms and can take actions accordingly. Follow these steps: 1. Log in to the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager as Administrator. From the Console pane, expand the Archive listing and then click the Nimsoft hub. 3. Select the robot and click Application. The ARCserve_RHA probe is listed on the right pane. 4. Right-click the ARCserve_RHA probe and select Configure. The ARCserve RHA Probe dialog opens. 10 How to Deploy and Use the CA ARCserve RHA Probe for Nimsoft How to Deploy and Use the ARCserve_RHA Probe for Nimsoft 5. Enter the RHA CS server Administrator credentials and RHA events that you want to monitor and click OK. The RHA probe is configured and ready to query the RHA CS for events and send the selected events to the Nimsoft server. Monitor CA ARCserve RHA Alarms The ARCserve_RHA probe sends the events as alarms to the probe after the probe is configured. You can monitor these alarms either from the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager or Nimsoft Unified Management Portal (UMP). Follow these steps to monitor RHA alarms from the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager: 1. Log in to the Nimsoft Infrastructure Manager as an Administrator. The Infrastructure Manager is displayed and all the Nimsoft alarms are listed in the Dock pane. 2. Click the Alarm Filter icon. The Alarm Filter dialog opens. 3. Select filter parameters as desired. The alarms are listed in the Dock pane. Follow these steps to monitor RHA alarms from the Nimsoft Unified Management Portal (UMP): 1. Log in to the Nimsoft Unified Management Portal as an Administrator. Note: To log in to the Nimsoft UMP, enter the following URL address (where <IP address> is the IP address of the machine that has UMP installed on it). http://<IP address>/web/guest/home The Nimsoft UMP interface is displayed. 2. Click the Alarms tab. All alarms are displayed. 3. Enter RHA in the filter text box to view only RHA alarms. The listing is filtered to display the RHA alarms.
