Established in 2008, The British and Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce in Finland is a not
for profit, non-governmental organization created to help companies and entrepreneurs do
business in Finland and throughout the Commonwealth. Our mission is to help business establish
or improve business operations in their destination country (countries). We provide specific
contacts, education, real life examples and direct links to the necessary support facilities to ensure
you are successful. Our relationship to influential and well-connected resources, such as the
Commonwealth Business Council (CBC), Council of British Chamber of Commerce in Europe
(COBCOE) and the Genesis Initiative (GI) help further our boundaries and connections, giving
one more piece of leverage for cementing success.
What is the Commonwealth?
With origins dating to the 1870’s in the old British Empire, the modern Commonwealth, ratified in
1949, is a voluntary membership of 54 independent countries, each of equal status, pursuing the
goals of democracy, equality, and freedom. The Commonwealth has some of the world’s largest
nations, like India and Canada, but also some of the smallest like Grenada and Nauru. The total
population is just under 2 billion, with 50% under the age of 25. Commonwealth countries
promote democracy and good governance, sustainable economic and social development, respect
for human rights and the rule of law, gender equality and protection of the environment. The
Head of the Commonwealth is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Labeled by the BBC News
World as ‘The Club of the 21st Century’, the Commonwealth acts as a family, with a common
history, and common culture and common vision, striving to lift their people, the economy, health
and welfare, and the environment. Today’s Commonwealth Trade is 5 times that the size of the of
the United States.
