Hi Ken, Let’s start by explaining EXIF data as follows:
Hi Ken, Let’s start by explaining EXIF data as follows: What is EXIF data? EXIF is short for Exchangeable Image File, a format that is a standard for storing interchange information in digital photography image files using JPEG compression. Almost all new digital cameras use the EXIF annotation, storing information on the image such as shutter speed, exposure compensation, F number, what metering system was used, if a flash was used, ISO number, date and time the image was taken, white balance, auxiliary lenses that were used and resolution. Some images may even store GPS information so you can easily see where the images were taken. EXIF data isn’t always reliable? 28-300mm @ 511.0mm 1/2000 sec, f/5.6 Mode: Sport Metering: Evaluative ISO: 200 AF mode: AI Servo AF Drive: Continuous: 4 White balance: Auto Flash: Off File size: 1,554KB Image size: 3072 x 2048 Saturation: Normal Sharpness: Normal Contrast: Normal Custom Functions: Default settings In this case a shot taken with a 28-300mm lens fitted to the camera is shown as having been taken at a focal length of 500mm plus which is beyond the range of this lens. Note: Swapping Data Storage cards between Cameras without reformatting the card first can produce unexpected results. I have seen EXIF data report pictures as if taken by a Canon 5D that were taken with a 40D by using a card that was once used in a 5D a card that wasn’t reformatted prior to being used again..This is one of the many reasons why camera manufacturers state that Data Storage cards should always be reformatted in camera prior to reuse.. Can EXIF data be faked? The simple answer to this question is YES. The reason it can be faked is because it is data and data can be rewritten/changed. Therefore EXIF data can only be of use as a reference if you trust the source or to the person that actually took the shot. EXIF data can never be relied upon as evidence. Software such as JPEGsnoop can be a useful tool to help identify the likelihood of an image being original however this still doesn’t provide definitive proof that an image is an unprocessed original. Well so what you can still create illusions old style using props i.e. objects close to the lens. If the fakery is staged (as in the image) when the photo is taken (with whatever date and time I set) then the EXIF data will show that the image is likely to be original. I really like this image out of the selection that you sent me and it is my absolute favourite for the following reasons. The story is that the person was abducted by aliens and taken aboard an alien transport a situation that I can personally relate with from my own experiences. The picture is said to have been taken by the camera that was around the neck of this person as he was confined on a table being examined by an alien creature. I like the way the image is staged it play’s on elements of our human experience of what we would expect to see in an operating theatre such as in a hospital. We have a bright operating theatre type light above and to the right. The operating theatre light (upper right) and then the alleged alien leaning over from the left are both near lens objects. The alien looks to be a staged prop (near to the camera lens) a wooden stirring spoon with eye shapes painted or stuck on designed to give that look. The operating theatre light well it looks like the flash head of an LED torch. The picture is overexposed to burn out much of the detail as this telltale detail can never be recovered. From my own personal experience I can tell you that alien transports are dimly illuminated, much to dark for you or I to read a book and I have never ever seen operating theatre type lights whilst aboard. I have noticed from the imagery that a camera being used has the signs of having been modified and that this is a common modification used by UFOLOGY enthusiasts of a bygone era. The internal infra red filter has been removed and this explains unexpected colour issues in some of the images taken with this modified camera. This modification is to help the camera register more light under low light conditions, but this modification totally messes up the cameras usefulness for daylight photography. This could have aided the white out effect (overexposure) and focus in my favourite out of images you sent me mentioned above. I decided that the best way to show this particular image to be a fake was to create my own similar image. I hope you get the general idea of what is achievable as I only spent approximately five minutes on creating the above image. This image was created with an A4 piece of paper, wooden spoon, two currants and the end of an LED torch head. The wooden spoon was slightly elevated above the paper Edited with the trial version of Foxit Advanced PDF Editor To remove this notice, visit: www.foxitsoftware.com/shopping and overlaps the LED torch head resting on the A4 piece of paper and the picture was taken using an old Fujifilm Finepix s7000 digital camera. There are many illusion tricks that can be staged and then photographed. The following is one of the sample images sent to me for authentication analysis. All I did was to display the original image on my laptop computer screen and take a picture of it using my camera. This means I can easily create composite images in Photoshop, display them on my screen or print to paper and simply photograph so that the EXIF data shows the image as original to whatever day or time I preset in the camera that best fits my story. Most of what I see in the sample images you sent me will likely be near the lens objects. The video clips containing UFO’s can easily be recreated using illuminated models. We need to better understand this Alien/UFO presence and its influence over us as one day our very existence as a species might depend on us knowing. Those that fake only serve to hide the real truth they make a mockery of all those that have experienced/suffered this phenomenon for real. Best Regards
