Why Choose DkIT for the B A (Hons) in Accounting...
Why Choose DkIT for the B A (Hons) in Accounting and Finance?
The DKIT BA (Hons) in
Accounting and
Finance (BAAF) is a
challenging 3 Year
Level 8 programme.
Those who are
prepared to work
hard on this course
are generally
rewarded with a
range of excellent
DkIT Library
career opportunities.
Important strengths
of this programme include small learning
groups and a highly experienced and
approachable lecturing team. Many of
our past graduates are at the very top
of both the Accountancy profession and
Irish business.
Career Opportunities
50% of DKIT business graduates choose
Accountancy as a career.
Accountancy is a profession which is in
demand regardless of whether the
economy is in a boom or a recession.
There are very few long-term
unemployed accountants.
In the current recession the accountant is
needed more than ever to advise
businesses on how to control their costs
and plan the way forward.
Starting salaries for newly qualified
accountants are approx. €45000.
The other 50% who choose not to pursue
accountancy have other exciting career
opportunities. They have a high quality
degree in business with good numerical
skills which can lead to further studies and/
or a career in;
Generally students will work with an
accountancy firm by day and study part
time for their exams. This is difficult when
compared to studying full time. It is very
important that your degree gets you the
greatest possible amount of exemptions
from these exams.
Information technology: Many of our
graduates are now working in this area
and are much sought after for their
business analysis skills.
DkIT BAAF students are exempt from
many of these further examinations
because of the high standard of the
programme.
Taxation : Tax consultancy is an
interesting career with great earning
potential (see www.taxinstitute.ie)
In fact no other accountancy degree in
Ireland has more exemptions from these
Accountancy examinations than the BAAF
in DKIT (ACCA, ICAI).
Teaching
Certified Accountants
Law
Graduates of the DKIT BAAF degree can
progress directly to the final
(Professional) examinations of the
Chartered Institute of Certified
Accountants. This means that they have
only one set of examinations to do before
they qualify as an accountant
(www.accaglobal.com).
Marketing Management (MBS in
Marketing and Entrepreneurship in DKIT)
Production and Quality Management
Financial Services including Insurance,
Investment consultancy and Banking.
How to qualify as a professional
accountant
This requires approximately 3 years of
apprenticeship and some further study with
one of the Accountancy institutes - for
example the Institute of Chartered
Accountants (www.charteredaccountants.ie)
or the Chartered Institute of Certified
Accountants (www.accaglobal.com).
Chartered Accountants
Many of our BAAF students choose
Chartered Accountancy (Institute of
Chartered Accountants). BAAF graduates
can progress directly to the second last
exam (CAP 2) which can be completed
while working with an accountancy firm
and studying part time, but, as an
alternative we have an excellent (4th
year) Masters degree in accounting in
DKIT. Graduates achieving the required
standard on completing the Masters
progress directly to the Final Admitting
Examination. This programme also
attracts graduates from other
Universities.
Some students are sponsored by
professional firms to do the Masters
degree (www.charteredaccountants.ie).
