TM TM Tech Notes Certainty 3D November 15, 2012 To: General Release From: Jennifer Triana Certainty 3D, Inc. Re: Guide to Load Point Cloud Data in TopoDOT – Flow Chart Loading Point Cloud Data in TopoDOT This guide’s purpose is to illustrate the many methods to import data in TopoDOT and to help the user decide which is the most practical method for the current application. The following flow charts show the options to load pointcloud data in TopoDOT based on the data type (terrestrial or static, airborne, mobile, etc) and the file type (ASCII, LAS, DOT, etc). The flow paths show which specific tool to use (all tools are display in “quotation” marks); nevertheless, it does not explain how to use the tools. For further instructions on the tools use, please refer to the same graphs under the TopoDOT Wiki Manual. There you will be able to find direct links form the flow chart boxes to the tool’s description. For more information please contact us. TILES YES Is the data parsed? Data is merged or in passes/flight lines NO 3 Have center line or alignment? For Tiles use "Register Scan Data from Folder to Icons" Use "Map Position Icons" YES 2 tab of File Settings Need to QA/QC relative registration? YES NO OR Check "Classify by Flight Line" in the LAS Use "Load Point Cloud from File" 1 OR Parse data in blocks using "Grid Parser" NO 4 Create a center line using aerial image or loaded data 1 Use "Generate Tiles Along Path" Use "Parse Tiles from Scan Data Folder" Make sure "Classify by Flight Line" in the LAS tab of File Settings is unchecked Load Data LEGEND Path to Follow Optional Path Choose Option * All tools are marked in "quotation" marks * All menus are marked in italics * All file types, including the ones not listed here, could be loaded using "load data from file". If data file is lager than 2GB decimate data using "thin data" tool and load the data using "load data from file" 1 If file is too large, decimate data using "thin data" tool 2 This option will re-classify data by point source id to display single passes/flight lines. It wont override current classification unless file is exported. 3 Best for data processing due to concise area to load (can load more tiles at time) 4 This option works on one file at a time. If data is separated into multiple files, use "LAS Merge" tool first 7039 Grand National Drive, Suite 100, Orlando, FL 32819 Phone: 407-248-0160 Fax: 407-641-9062 www.facebook.com/Certainty3D | www.Certainty3D.com LOAD STATIC POINT CLOUD DATA IN TOPODOT Tech Notes Certainty 3D IDENTIFY DATA FORMAT OR FILE TYPE OPTION FOR RSP PROJECTS ONLY PROJECT RSP, E57, ZFPRJ BINARY LAS, LAZ, T3D, DOT TEXT TXT, ASCII, XYZ, PTS Is data merged, tiled or blocked?
