Administrative - Master Syllabus COVER SHEET Purpose: It is the intention of this Administrative-Master Syllabus to provide a general description of the course, outline the required elements of the course and to lay the foundation for course assessment for the improvement of student learning, as specified by the faculty of Wharton County Junior College, regardless of who teaches the course, the timeframe by which it is instructed, or the instructional method by which the course is delivered. It is not intended to restrict the manner by which an individual faculty member teaches the course but to be an administrative tool to aid in the improvement of instruction. Topics covered are laws pertaining to controlled substances, crowd management, personal property, and crime scene investigation.Should be taken in conjunction with Basic Peace Officer I, II, and IV to satisfy the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCLEOSE) approved Basic Peace Officer Academy. Course Learning Outcomes Course Learning Outcome Students will demonstrate the knowledge content necessary to comprehend, apply and evaluate information relevant to them as a Basic Peace Officer. Students will demonstrate technical proficiency in all skills as required by TCLEOSE necessary to fulfill the role of a Basic Peace Officer. Students will demonstrate personal behaviors consistent with professional and employer expectations for a Basic Peace Officer. Students will learn to organize and improve comprehension and be able to integrate the didactic material so they can apply it to the psychomotor skills they are expected to perform Administrative-Master Syllabus revised April 2011 Method of Assessment Written Exams, course schedules/syllabus, scenario assessments, student handbooks, and assesment graphs. A score of 80% is passing The Trainee must maintain an 80% topic test average and have an 80% overall average to graduate from the Academy The Trainees will be given three (3) comprehensive major exams called Quarterly Exams and one (1) comprehensive Final Exam. Topic and Skills Tests Quarterly Exams Final Exam Total = = = = 20% 30% 50% 100% Any Trainee that is absent from the Firearms, CPR, or Police Driving without prior approval of the Police Academy Director will be removed from the Police Academy. TCLEOSE mandates that students attend all Firearms, CPR, and Police Driving skills training. Any Trainee that is absent from any Defensive Tactics and Patrol Procedures skills class without prior approval by the Police Academy Director will have 10 points deducted from his/her quarterly average. All Trainees are required to participate in ALL skills activities. All Trainees must attend the lecture part of the OC Pepper Spray certification class, however exposure is optional. All Trainees are required to turn in an Academy Notebook on the day of the Final Exam. If the BPOC notebook is not turned in on time or is incomplete, the Trainee will have 10 points deducted from their final average. Administrative-Master Syllabus revised April 2011 Page 3 of 4 10. 11. VII. If a Trainee scores less than 80% on any Quarterly Exam, a retest will be scheduled. The retest will be taken within ten (10) working days of the date the test is returned to the Trainee. The Trainee will not receive a grade higher than an 80% on any retest. If the Trainee scores less than 80% on any retest the Trainee will be dismissed from the BPOC. The Trainee will be allowed only ONE retest for a Quarterly Exam during the course. There is no retest on the Final Exam.
