a) Use the devices only as described in this manual.
b) Regard the process conditions.
c) Check tubes and hoses for leakage.
DANGER
Adiabatic compression (explosion hazard)!
In case of adiabatic compression, high gas temperatures may occur. The operator is responsible to consider this situation.
Make sure to obey the allowed technical specifications and ambient conditions
(see data sheet), take special attention to the media temperature with respect to
temperature class T4. These vary in addition to gas composition and ambient
conditions. Where necessary, the operator must install temperature sensors for
monitoring and must automatically shut down the sample gas pump should the
temperature exceed the limits.
DANGER
DANGER - Explosion danger in case of high temperatures
Temperature of the device depends on the medium temperature. Correlation
between medium temperature and temperature classes is given in the data
sheets.
Observe maximum temperature classes T4 for the pumps and the allowed ambient temperatures and medium temperatures.

4.1 Installation site requirements
CAUTION
Damage to the device
Protect the equipment against dust, falling objects and external impacts.
Stroke of lightning
Outdoor installation is forbidden. As a matter of principle, the operator must regard all applicable standards according prevention of damage due to lightning,
which may otherwise damage the sample gas pump.
CAUTION
Avoid vibrations and resonances
The operator is responsible to mount the pump in a way that vibrations and resonance do not cause premature failure resulting in creating an effective ignition
source.
Sample gas pump P1.2 (without enclosure) is a built-in unit and must be operated within an enclosure that provides sufficient protection against touching live or moving parts (fan). Ingress of
water or dust and dirt must be prevented.
Air ventilation must not be obstructed and exhausted air - including air from adjacent units must not be sucked in directly.
The motor is suitable for ambient temperatures between 0 °C to +50 °C and altitude of height ≤
1000 m above sea level.
Please refer to the data sheet attached to this manual for further information about ambient
parameters at the installation site.
4.2 Assembly
CAUTION
Damage to the device
Protect the device, especially the gas inlets and tubes, against dust, falling parts
and external impact.
Use suitable rubber-metal buffers when installing to mounting plates. We recommend buffers
with a diameter or 10 mm, a height of 10 mm and a shore hardness of 70. These are also available from us.
The base angle of the sample gas pump features 4x M4 tapped holes for mounting the buffers.
Suitable buffers and assembly brackets are accessories which may be ordered separately from
us.

Installation and Operation Instructions
Sample gas pumps P1.2, P1.2E
Installation and connection
When mounting the sample gas pump, make sure that the motor has sufficient distance to the
rear panell (20 mm). If you use sample gas pumps with enclosures (type P1.2E), the minimum
distance between enclosure and rear panel must not be less than 50 mm. Mounting brackets for
different models are optionally available. Using the appropriate mounting brackets guarantees
the proper distance to the rear panel.
4.3 Special condition moist sample gas
Applications where the sample gas is still moist may result in condensate forming in line and the
pump body. In these events the pump head must be suspended (pump body facing down).
If the pump was not ordered this way, it can easily be converted on site.
Install the line between the gas output and condensate drain with a grade so the condensate
can drain and does not collect inside the pump or the lines.
4.3.1 Conversion to pump body pointing down
Loosen the 3 Torx screws (M3x8) on the front cover (Torx T10).
Remove the cover.
Loosen and remove the 4 cross-drive screws (M4x6) on the console.

Installation and Operation Instructions
Sample gas pumps P1.2, P1.2E
Installation and connection
Carefully turn the pump unit 180°.
Then reinstall the 4 cross-drive screws and tighten to 3 Nm.
Before tightening the screws be sure the pump unit is centered in the base angle.
Now reinstall the front cover and secure using the 3 M3x8 Torx screws.
4.4 Connecting the gas lines
The G1/4" threaded holes for the respective male end fittings are factory sealed with rubber
plugs to prevent contamination. Male end fittings are not included but are available as accessories for metric and inch installation.
Avoid mixed installations, i.e. piping to plastic bodies. In the event this is necessary for isolated
applications, carefully screw the metal screws into the pump body, never use force.
Route pipes so the line at the inlet and outlet remains elastic over a sufficient distance.
Pumps are marked with „In“ for inlet and „Out“ for outlet. Check whether the fittings of the tubes
are tightly closed.
If there is a crack to the bellow ambient air is sucked in and the pump still generates pressure.
For this reason, the pump must be monitored.
Therefore, install a suitable shut-off device and a suitable vacuum pressure gauge upstream the
sample gas inlet. If during operation and closing the suction line no under-pressure is generated, the bellow is defective.
During normal operation, the bellow may be monitored by installing a flow controller upstream
the gas inlet and downstream the gas outlet.
A crack in the bellow can usually be detected in the following way:
Sudden drop down of the mass flow upstream the pump and constant flow or sudden increase
of mass flow downstream of the pump (pump may suck ambient air in through the crack!)
If your application includes a continuous monitoring of sample gas components (e. g. monitoring
O2 concentration), a cracked bellow may be detected by a sudden and large change of the
measured value (mixing the sample gas with ambient air).
NOTICE
If flammable gases (even above upper explosion limit (UEL)) or toxic gases are
supplied, continuous monitoring of the pump is mandatory.

NOTICE
If the bellow cracked, turn the pump off immediately!
DANGER
Explosion hazard, danger of poisoning!
When following preventive maintenance according to the maintenance plan, a
crack in the bellows is a rare malfunction, but cannot be completely eliminated.
A crack in the bellows when conveying flammable or poisonous gasses may allow explosive or poisonous gas mixtures to leak or develop.
Motor the pump. If a pump defect occurs, shut it off immediately.
If flammable gases above upper explosive limit (UEL) are supplied, we recommend in addition
monitoring the lower explosive limit (UEL) at the installation site.
If toxic gases are delivered, we recommend in addition monitoring the occupational exposure
limit (OEL) at the installation site.
CAUTION Don't let the pump work for a longer time if the suction line is shut-off.
Furthermore, the mass flow has to be monitored with suitable manometer and flow meter and
the pump must be protected with a suitable flame arrestor.
4.5 Electrical connections
WARNING
Hazardous electrical voltage
The device must be installed by trained staff only.
CAUTION
Wrong mains voltage
Wrong mains voltage may damage the device.
Regard the correct mains voltage as given on the type plate.
A switch or power switch (according to IEC 60947-1 and IEC 60947-3) must be installed for the
sample gas pump. It must be easily accessible by the user. The switch must be marked as circuit breaker for the device. It must not be installed in the mains power cord and must not interrupt the protective earth conductor. Furthermore, it must disconnect the device from all poles.
The sample gas pump must be protected against overheating by a suitable overload protection.
Regard the rated current for the settings of the circuit breaker (230 V = 0,48 V, 115 V = 0,84 A).
The sample gas pumps type P1.2 are connected with blade terminals size 6.3 mm.
Connect the protective earth conductor to the PE blade terminal.
Sample gas pumps of type P1.2E are delivered with 3 m mains cord.
If your sample gas pump is equipped with an On/Off switch at the housing (P1.2E only), make
sure to switch it to Off position before connecting the mains cable.
WARNING
Hazardous electrical voltage
The On/Off switch does not ensure switching off all poles.

Since a crack in the bellow allows the ambient atmosphere to be sucked in and the sample gas
pump continues to generate pressure, the sample gas pump must be monitored.

Installation and Operation Instructions
Sample gas pumps P1.2, P1.2E
Maintenance
This is done by connecting a suitable shut-off unit and a suitable vacuum pressure gauge ahead
of the sample gas input. For monitoring intervals also refer to bullet Maintenance schedule. If
during operation, after closing the suction line, no negative pressure is produced, the bellows is
defective.
In regular operation the bellow can also be monitored by integrating a flow meter control ahead
of the gas input and behind the gas output of the pump.
A tear in the bellows can typically be registered as follows:
Sudden reduction of the suction volume/flow volume before the pump with simultaneously consistent or suddenly increased delivery volume after the pump (pump can convey ambient air
suctioned in due to the tear!).
If you providing continuous monitoring of sample gas components in your application (e.g. monitoring the O2 content in the sample gas), the bellows tearing can possibly also be registered
with a sudden severe change in the data (sample gas and ambient air mixing).
NOTICE
If flammable gases (even above upper explosion limit (UEL)) or toxic gases are
supplied, continuous monitoring of the pump is mandatory.
NOTICE
If the bellow cracked, turn the pump off immediately!
When conveying flammable gasses above the upper explosive limit (UEL) we further recommend monitoring the lower explosive limit (LEL) in the installation location.
When conveying toxic gasses we recommend MAC monitoring (MAC: maximum accepted concentration) in the installation location.

Maintenance
6.3 Replacing the inlet and outlet valves
First remove the male end fittings.
Remove the inlet and outlet valve using a wide cross-drive slot screwdriver.
The inlet and outlet valves are identical. The installation position determines the function. As
seen in the picture the valves are blue on one side and black on the other. They are also
marked "EIN" or "IN" for inlet and "AUS" or "OUT" for outlet.
Inlet valve
Outlet valve
To assemble the sample gas pump follow the steps in reverse order. When tightening the inlet
and outlet valves be sure to follow the specified screw-in torque of max. 1 Nm.
CAUTION! Tightening the valves with more force will result in permanent deformation of
the pump and it will then need to be replaced.
When installing the male end fittings be sure the connection is leak-proof.
6.4 Replacing parts inside the pump housing
First remove the front cover as described in chapter Conversion to pump body pointing down.
Loosen the 4 M4x18 fillister head screws and lift the pump head along with mounting ring and
foam cover off the console.

6.5 Replacing the bellow
To replace the bellow carefully unscrew it from the connecting rod counter clockwise. Be sure
not to lose any installed shims.
Before reinstalling the bellow be sure it is not damaged.
Reinstall hand tight in reverse order.
6.6 Crank gear replacement
The crank gear consists of the connecting rod with ball bearing and eccentric.
After removing the bellow remove the set-screw inside the eccentric M3 using a size 1.5
setscrew wrench.
The crank gear may now be removed from the motor shaft.
Before installing the replacement part re-move any rust residue on the motor shaft and coat with
non-resinous oil.
Insert the setscrew with a drop of medium strength thread locker. When inserting the setscrew
be sure it is seated in the locking hole on the shaft.
6.7 Assembly of the sample gas pump
If the sample gas pump was removed, install in reverse order. Be sure the sealing surfaces of
the below and pump head are clean and aren’t scratched (even minimal grooves can cause
leaks). First evenly tighten the 4 M4x18 fillister head screws at 1 Nm. Then tighten the screws to
3 Nm.
CAUTION! Tighten each screw only once at 3 Nm. The bellow and pump body material
﴾PTFE﴿ is very weak and has high flow properties.
Check the sample gas pumps for tightness and proper function.
6.8 Cleaning the pump console
– Remove the three screws on the housing cover and remove the housing cover (see chapter
Conversion to pump body pointing down [_ 11]).
– Pay special attention to the ventilation slots in the cover being free of dust and other dirt.

List of chemical resistance
Important note
The tables headed "Chemical resistance of plastics" and "Properties of plastics materials" have
been compiled from information from various producers of raw materials. The figures relate exclusively to laboratory tests on raw materials. Plastics items made from these materials are often subject to influences which cannot be detected in a laboratory test (temperature, pressure,
stresses in the material, chemical substances, design features, etc.). For these reasons the figures quoted can serve only as a guideline. In case of doubt we strongly recommend that a test
be carried out. No legal claims can be derived from these figures and we disclaim all liability.
The chemical and mechanical resistance of a product does not suffice for the assessment of its
suitability for use, for example legislation on flammable liquids (explosion protection) is to be
taken into particular consideration.
Chemical resistance for other substance on request.

Sample Gas Pump
P1.1, P1.1E, P1.2, P1.2E
The transportation of sample gas in sample conditioning
systems requires reliable sample pumps. The corrosive
nature of the gas and the potential of condensate formation
are the real challenges for any pump.
These sample pumps are equipped with a bellows made
from solid PTFE. This design has demonstrated the highest
reliability and long lifetime in numerous applications.
Designed specifically for harsh gas applications that have
entrained liquids present or where condensate is expected
to form, it is recommended that the pump head be pointed
downwards to accommodate draining of these liquids.
Model P1.2 and P1.2E sample gas pumps are approved to
transport flammable gases of explosion group IIA and IIB.
Housing versions P1.1E and P1.2E include a standard 3 m
connection line and are available with optional On/Off
switch.
