Dear Parents and Guardians:
Welcome to 2016! It has been a busy school year filled with academic, co
-curricular, and personal accomplishments.
Through the dedication of the amazing staff at Logan High School, we
have experienced success in many areas. One of the most notable successes was with the iFeed program. The Logan community collected the
most food in the surrounding area to support others in need of food.
The students went on to produce an iFeed video that was chosen FIRST
IN THE WORLD! There were 87 entries from 25 countries. This
demonstrates the strong “family” environment, committed to excellence.
As we move forward through the 2016 school year, I encourage all of
you to demonstrate passion and caring for others. It truly makes a
difference.
We have already started planning for next year! I encourage all of you
to share your wonderful experiences at Logan High School with others,
and invite them to enroll at Logan High School through the Open Enrollment process. We are proud to serve all our students and meet their
needs for a successful high school career and post secondary options.
Thanks for all your support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Deborah Markos

Logan Parent Newsletter
Welcome to the Ranger Resource Room. Students use the room
for studying and finishing homework. Make up tests are administered in the room. The room is used for peer tutoring; "students
helping students" with school work. Information on colleges and
the military is provided. Representatives from colleges and the
military visit Logan for any interested
students. Volunteer information is
given to students interested in helping
in the community. Students may sign
up to be an ambassador for Logan. An ambassador helps welcome new students
by touring Logan and escorting them to each class. Students can sign up to be an
Awesome Ranger Role Model; once a week during a free period they spend time
with a student(s) at Northside Elementary taking part in activities. Job listings
are posted in the Ranger Resource Room. The Ranger Resource Room is used by
many students on a daily basis.
Drama Club receives Grant from the
La Crosse Public Education Foundation
Dawn Martin, high school drama club advisor, has received a $650 grant from the La
Crosse Public Education Foundation. The grant, entitled Acting Like a Pro, will enable drama club students the opportunity to work with actress Elaine Bromka. Ms. Bromka is an
Emmy Awardwinning actress with a career on Broadway, film and television, as well as a
Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Smith College (A. B., magna cum laude; M.A.T. Smith College). She is currently on the faculty of the National Theatre Institute, and previously on the faculties of New
York University and Smith College.
Ms. Bromka will be offering two 90 minute workshops where she will work with students to improve their
acting. In the first workshop, Making Your Monologue Hot, students come with a two-minute memorized
piece. Detailed analysis of intention, impulse, circumstances and interpretation is offered in the monologue
workshop – highlighting individual strengths, noting what blocks might be apparent, and pointing the way to
inspire each student’s imagination. In Acting for Singers, students will bring a song or part of a song and
learn to make it land more vividly by exploring the impulses behind the words, discovering what the song is
about in a way that’s uniquely theirs, and learning to make maximum impact!
Mrs. Martin is grateful to the La Crosse Public Education Foundation and is looking forward to this opportunity.

Let’s go sledding!
Recently, Ms. Pfennig’s SDPE class combined
with Ms. Mahlum's PE Outdoor Adventure class and
went sledding, snowshoeing, learned how to tie knots,
roasted marshmallows over a “campfire” and used
outdoor stoves to cook hot dogs and hot chocolate.
For the last couple of weeks Ms. Mahlum has
been preparing students to become instructors for our
SDPE students. They split into groups and ran different stations, and did an outstanding job!
Teachers and students in the Logan Technology &
Engineering Dept. took a picture of an adapted sled and recreated it in order to build a specialized sled for some of our Adapted Physical Education
students. Three of our students in wheelchairs were able to try out the sled
during our Outdoor Adventure field trip. It was the first time all three students experienced what it was like to sled down a hill and not just be pulled
around.
