with Interactive TOC (Table of Contents)
(Ten pages is the minimum, do more for a higher grade!)
Objectives:
InDesign Document set up
Creating and using a Master Page with Automatic Page Numbering (Folios)
Use of the KEYBOARDING CHART & GLYPHS PALETTE for Typesetting special symbols
Setting and using TABS
Creating and applying CHARACTER STYLES
Creating and applying PARAGRAPH STYLES
Creating a logo as a TIFF, AI or PSD file. Placing the logo as a LINKED graphic
Output: Packaging for PRINT. Creating a Multi-page Interactive PDF
Creating an interactive Table of Contents (TOC)
Create a Project folder named: yourname-samplepage.
Creating your Document
INDESIGN>PREFERENCES>UNITS AND INCREMENTS> PICAS.
Saving and naming your Document
yourname_samplepage .indd.
Example: SJones_samplepage.indd
Save the document in two locations (one is your back-up)
Master Page-A
In the PARAGRAPH CONTROL PALETTE, un-check “Hyphenate”
Set up your MASTER PAGE using the font ADOBE GARAMOND PRO
The required elements on the Master page are:
1. Name of the font [in a text frame placed in the upper right corner INSIDE THE MARGINS]
2. Four graduated “point size” samples ( 6pt, 8pt, 10pt, 12pt etc…)
3. Full character set in 36 point, (see example).
You may wish to customise the character sets to show special OPENTYPE features such as:
old-style numerals, ligatures or ornaments.
4. Three “body copy” samples showing variations of point size and leading.
5. Logo 300 DPI digital file with the .tiff, .psd or .ai file extension.
6. FOLIO (page number) and Your name in in the lower right-hand corner.

Create a new Paragraph Style:

Alignment: Align right
Apply to the NAME OF THE FONT on the upper right-hand side of Master Page A
Create a new Character Style:
Style Name: Labels
Font:
Myriad Pro Condensed
Size:
10 pt
Apply to the point size labels, your name and the folio on Master Page A.
Pages 1-10 (or more)
1. Print PAGE ONE and proof-read. Make any needed corrections.
2. Choose a classic text type font for each of the remaining 9 pages.
3. Unlock the text frames on the “local” page (COMMAND/SHIFT click to unlock)
4. Select the text and specify the new font
5. The character set can be customised for each font to allow for swashes, ornaments,
old style figures and other special characters.
Packaging your Document for PRINT
SAVE your file
FILE>PACKAGE
Choose blue button>PACKAGE
You are now in the CREATE FOLDER dialog box.
uncheck Copy Fonts
✔Copy Linked Graphics
✔Update Links in Package
Name the project folder
Yourname_SamplePage
SAVE
Creating an interactive PDF File
FILE>EXPORT
Format: Adobe PDF (Interactive)
Save As: SamplePage_Yourname.PDF

Create your TOC your document after your document is finished or nearly finished.

Choose RIGHT INDENT TAB
Creating the tab leaders(………)
Edit the Paragraph Style: TOC Text
FIRST:
Click anywhere in the tab ruler to set a tab
SECOND
Type a period and space in the LEADER box
To refresh your TOC;
place your type cursor in the TOC on the first page of your document and choose: LAYOUT>UPDATE TABLE OF CONTENTS

Spell-check and proofread carefully. Success is all in the details!
GREP, Hyphens, Dashes & Special Characters
Replace the double spaces after punctuation with a single space if needed.
EDIT>FIND/CHANGE>QUERY: Multiple Space to Single Space
✒ Replace hyphens with an Em dash or En dash where needed
Menu: TYPE>INSERT SPECIAL CHARACTER>HYPHENS AND DASHES
