TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
Tonight marks the beginning of the 2014-15 season for the Texas Stars against the division rival, Iowa Wild. Last season,
the Stars were 5-1-0-0 in six total meetings against Iowa, and outscored the Wild, 21-12, in the season series overall.
Tonight’s matchup is the first of eight total meetings this year between the Stars and Wild.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
For the Stars, Travis Morin returns this season the reigning Les Cunningham Award winner as the AHL’s MVP from a year
ago. Morin put together an 88-point campaign (32 goals, 56 assists) to lead the AHL in scoring last season. Iowa’s Zack
Phillips is the team’s leading returning scorer from a season ago, where he compiled 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists) in 76
games.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Jack Campbell returns to the Stars net this season. Campbell begins his fourth season in Texas after appearing in 16
games with a 12-2-2 record, a 1.49 GAA, and .942 SV% last year. After spending last season in Finland, Jussi Rynnas
signed with the Dallas Stars organization over the summer to return to North America. Rynnas led the Finnish Elite League
last year with a 1.51 GAA and a .939 SV%. Johan Gustafsson returns in net for Iowa after posting a 2.98 GAA and .903
SV% last season. John Curry also returns after spending last season across the Minnesota Wild organization from
Orlando (ECHL) to Iowa (AHL) to the NHL club.
HOME/ROAD SPLITS
Last season, the Stars carried the AHL’s best home record at 29-8-0-1, while the Wild were 16-14-4-4 on the road.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Tonight’s matchup is the seventh all-time meeting between the Stars and Wild. Texas holds a 5-1-0-0 record in those
meetings, including a 3-0-0-0 record on home ice.
LAST TIME OUT – IOWA WILD
The Iowa Wild came out on the wrong side of a 3-2 final last night to the San Antonio Rampage. Both of the Wild’s goals
came on the power play from Michael Keranan and Jonathon Blum. Johan Gustafsson stopped 36-of-39 shots in the
loss. Mark Mancari tallied the game-winning goal and an assist in the game for the Rampage.

TEXAS STARS VS. IOWA WILD: HEAD-TO-HEAD, 2013-14
Against the Iowa Wild last year, Stars forwards Brendan Ranford and Travis Morin each led the club with five points in six
meetings, while Jack Campbell strung together a 2-0-0 record, with a 2.01 GAA and .900 SV% in two appearances against
Iowa. Steve Kampfer paced the Iowa offense against Texas with four points in six games, all assists, but this season
Kampfer is in the Florida Panthers organization. Johan Gustafsson appeared in a two games last season, giving up
seven goals (3.39 GAA) and recording a .913 SV%.
PRESEASON ROUND UP
The Texas Stars split a pair of preseason contests at Cedar Park Center, falling to Oklahoma City in overtime, 3-2, and
topping the San Antonio Rampage, 6-1. Taylor Peters and Maxime Fortunus each scored a pair of goals in preseason to
lead the team. Justin Dowling led all Texas skaters with three points. The Wild split a preseason home-and-home series
against the Chicago Wolves, winning 7-4 in game one and losing in overtime, 6-5, in game two. Wild rookie Olivier
Archambault led the team with four goals and five points in the preseason.
STARS DEBUT NEW COACHING STAFF
The Texas Stars debut a new coaching staff this season in Derek Laxdal and assistant Karl Taylor. Laxdal returns to the
Dallas Stars organization, where he spent five seasons as the head coach of the ECHL’s Idaho Steelheads and won the
2007 Kelly Cup. Laxdal spent the past four years as head coach of the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings, and won the CHL’s
2014 Memorial Cup. Former Stars head coach Willie Desjardins and assistant Doug Lidster both departed after the past
two seasons to take over for the NHL’s Vancouver Canucks.
RALLO RETURNS
Greg Rallo was a member of the Texas Stars’ inaugural roster in 2009-10 and appeared in 147 games over the franchise’s
first two seasons before departing for the San Antonio Rampage (Florida Panthers). This offseason, Rallo chose to sign
and return to the Texas Stars for the 2014-15 campaign. The forward entered this season ranked among the Stars

McKENZIE SET FOR SOPHOMORE SEASON
Last season Curtis McKenzie won the Dudley “Red” Garrett Award as the AHL’s Rookie of the Year after tallying 65 points
(27 goals, 38 assists) in 75 games. The sixth-round pick started training camp with the NHL’s Dallas Stars before being
assigned to Texas to begin his second professional season.
CALDER CUP CHAMPIONSHIP DEFENSE
The Texas Stars enter the 2014-15 campaign as the AHL’s defending Calder Cup Champions, defeating the St. John’s
IceCaps in five games in the Final a season ago. The last time the AHL saw a Calder Cup repeat-champion was in 200910, when the Hershey Bears defeated the Texas Stars in six games.
THE LAST ORIGINAL STARS
Three players on this season’s Texas Stars roster remain from the team’s inaugural season. Maxime Fortunus, Travis
Morin and Greg Rallo all skated for the Stars in 2009-10. Fortunus and Morin have remained staples in the team’s lineup
over the past five seasons, while Rallo spent three years with the San Antonio Rampage and Florida Panthers before
returning to Texas this year.
HONKA MAKES HIS PRO DEBUT

18-year-old Julius Honka makes his professional debut this season in Texas, after being selected 14 overall by the Dallas
Stars in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. The Finnish defenseman spent last season with the WHL’s Swift Current Broncos on
loan from his junior club in Finland. After beginning training camp in the NHL, Honka was assigned to spend this season
with the AHL’s Texas Stars.
