Course Description
A one day educational symposium examining kidney and pancreas transplantation with a special emphasis on the optimization of pretransplant and post-transplant patient care management. In addition, the conference will review upcoming changes in kidney allocation
policy, living donation opportunities, provide updates on immunosuppressive therapies, discuss the diagnosis and treatment of organ
rejection as well as transplant related emergencies.

Learning Objectives
•
CME Accreditation
Facilitate comprehensive pre-transplant evaluations and early
referrals of patients by nephrologists and dialysis care providers
for kidney and/or pancreas transplantation to optimize clinical
outcomes.
•
Promote understanding of organ selection and its impact on
transplant outcomes with specific reference to the current practice
standards and the revised kidney allocation guidelines.
•
Compare and contrast the efficacy of immunosuppressive agents
in the management of kidney and pancreas transplant recipients in
specific patient subgroups to optimize patient outcomes.
•
Recognize post-transplant complications and intervene in a timely
manner to promote superior post-transplant outcomes.
Target Audience
This conference is intended for nephrologists, social workers, residents,
fellows, nurses and dialysis and transplant healthcare professionals,
nutritionists, dietitians, hospitalists, dialysis technicians, primary care
physicians, and advance practice clinicians involved in the care of
patients with chronic kidney disease, end stage renal disease on dialysis,
and kidney and pancreas transplantations.
MedStar Washington Hospital Center is accredited by the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical
education for physicians.
Credit Designation
MedStar Washington Hospital Center designates this live activity for a
maximum of 6 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Physicians should claim
only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the
activity.
For Nurses
For the purpose of recertification, the American Nurses Credentialing
Center (ANCC) accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ issued by
organizations accredited by the ACCME. Nurses who attend a Category
1 CME certified activity can complete the continuing education hours
section of the ANCC Professional Development Record in order to
document the courses attended and the hours obtained.
For Social Workers
An application has been made to the National Association of Social
Workers (NASW), Metro DC Chapter for continuing education credits.
For Nutritionists and Dietitians
This program has been approved for continuing education through the
Commission on Dietetic Registration up to 5 hours.
