NEWSLETTER 9 OCTOBER 2014
NEWSLETTER 9th OCTOBER 2014 A FEW WORDS FROM MRS MALAM CAFS NEWS It’s been another exciting and inspiring week at LCA! This week in particular has been filled with unusual and interesting guests. Ask your child/ren about the baby visitor and the Lincolnshire Longwool sheep and chickens! What a lot we learnt in these sessions and yet again I’m left feeling how lucky we are to be able to provide such a varied and rich curriculum for the children. Hello Everybody, Just a quick mention about times of the school day - we open the gates at 8:55am every morning so that you have time to settle your child in their class and chat with the teacher if you need to. Please ensure that your child arrives by 9:10am as learning starts at this time and if they’re late they will miss important parts of this. In the afternoon, the gates open at about 3:00pm ready for you to collect your child at 3:10pm when school closes. If you are going to be late then please make sure you’ve called school so that we can make arrangements for your child. MONKEYS & GIRAFFES CLASS NEWS During the last 2 weeks the children in Giraffes and Monkeys class have been sharing their favourite things with their friends and their teachers. We had a lovely time looking at everyone's favourite toys and did some brilliant writing about them too. The children are really getting to grips with being able to hear, say and write the sounds in all sorts of words. We also had a morning talking about our favourite foods and deciding whether these were healthy foods or treat foods. It turned out that most of our favourites were treats... including the teachers! However, the children had a great knowledge of healthy foods and made all sorts of fruits and vegetables using play dough and drew their favourite healthy meals on paper plates. This week the children have had a chance to share their favourite book with their friends. It has been lovely to see so many children sharing their joy of reading and it is clear that they are having lots of wonderful, positive reading experiences at home. We looked at where their stories were set and discovered stories from outer space, jungles, forests, farms and ice kingdoms! Next time you share a bedtime story at home; why not talk to your child about where the story is set? We ended our learning about 'Our Favourite Things' by inviting special people from our families to join us in school for a tea party. We shared our special books and looked at photographs of the things that the children had been taking part in during their first few weeks at school. We finished the session by asking the children to introduce their special person and telling us what made them so special. It was wonderful to hear the comments that the children made. We certainly have some very special people out there! We hope you received your letters in book bags last week regarding the AGM and the CAFS Disco. Posters are also up and around school for both events, with information on. If you have any questions, please get in touch - email; cafs@lincolncarltonacademy.lincs.sch.uk CAFS meeting 16th October, 2pm in the Purple Room. Please come along before school pick up to see if you can help with any current CAFS events being organised. Also we will be discussing future fundraising ideas. The AGM (Wednesday 12th November, 7.30pm at Lincoln Carlton Academy) This is a massively important meeting and we really need parents to come along to get involved with CAFS. Committee Members are all required to step down and re-elections will take place. The more help we have, the more fun events we can host, and in turn the more money we can raise to spend on resources and equipment for the children. The CAFS Disco - Thursday 16th October, 5.30 - 7pm. If you want to leave your child, that is fine. Please leave your contact details in case of emergency. If you'd like to stay, then we will have refreshments on offer in the Purple Room. Please ensure your £3 payment is paid with your reply slip by tomorrow at the latest. Thanks, Sarah Benton CAFS Chair Person. YEAR 1 REMINDERS Don’t forget about our homework projects for ‘Me and My st World’, we will be sharing these the week beginning 21 October. th Our Lincolnshire WOW day is on Thursday 16 October – dress up to represent something from Lincolnshire. WARM CLOTHING Autumn has now begun and the weather over the last week has started to deteriorate. Please be aware that children will be outside in all weathers and will need to be clothed appropriately. All children will need a warm coat to enable them to take part in outdoor learning. We do have a supply of waterproof overalls for children to use on rainy days. Wellies are not essential but are recommended so that children can stomp in puddles without fear of ruining their school shoes. Please ensure that all items are fully labelled with your child’s name. Thank you. CHEF’S CORNER I have been able to travel further afield this week when I attended the Universal Infant Free School Meal workshop in Sheffield. It was fascinating to hear how other schools across the country have implemented the free meals. The themes included menu planning, planning, procurement and training needs to name just a few! Our new Assistant Chef, Leanna Brothwell, popped in this week and we have been looking at the kitchen and planning the meeting at st which all parents and children are invited to on Tuesday 21 October, 6pm – we hope you can make it to come and find out more! MORRISONS VOUCHERS We are collecting the Morrison’s ‘Let’s Grow’ vouchers so if you have any, please could you hand them in to the office or your child’s teacher. This will really benefit our Little Green Thumbs group with their work. SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION & INFORMATION SICKNESS If your child is ill and unable to attend school, please contact the office on 01522 522633 on each day of absence to notify us.
