TAKS Test Basic Information u Offered: October, March, July u For examinees who were enrolled in grade 9 in 2010-2011 or earlier u Subjects: Math, Science, Social Studies, ELA u Online testing program u Former TAAS or TEAMS examinees will take the appropriate online TAKS subject area test u TAKS Coordinator and Test Administration Manual, page 2 u http://www.tea.state.tx.us/student.assessment/taks/manuals/ Accommodations u Students currently enrolled in a Texas public school and served by special education are eligible for accommodations u Students once served by special education who are no longer enrolled in a Texas public school are not eligible for accommodations u TAKS Accommodations u Presentation Accommodations u Response Accommodations u Setting Accommodations u Timing and Scheduling Accommodations u Information on who can use accommodations and examples of accommodations can be located in Appendix B of the TAKS Coordinator And Test Administrator Manual u http://www.tea.state.tx.us/student.assessment/taks/manuals/ Oral Administration u For Math, Science and Social Studies Only u TAKS ELA may NOT be administered orally u Must meet established eligibility requirements u See Appendix C for information on Oral Administration Eligibility u Test administrator must have specific oral test administration training u Can encompass different levels of support u Reading words and phrases u Reading multiple sentences u Reading the entire test Test Security u Test Security is accounting for all secure materials and confidential examinee information before, during and after testing u Store secure materials in locked storage u Maintain inventory and shipping records for five years u Storing student authorization forms in a secure location prior to testing u Destroying all student authorizations, charts, scratch/graph paper used during testing u Keeping materials secure at all Confidentiality Requirements u Maintaining confidentiality involves protecting all contents of the online assessment and secure test materials u All testing personnel must be trained and sign an oath u For online testing, all testing personnel must accept a statement of confidentiality when accessing the Assessment Management System u All tests must be administered according to the manual u No person may view, reveal or discuss test content u No person may duplicate, print, record or capture test content u No person other than the examinees may work problems or respond to test items u Oral test administrators must sign an additional portion of the security oath Penalties for Prohibited Conduct u Reprimand u Placement of restrictions on a Texas educator certificate u Suspension of a Texas educator certificate u Revocation or cancellation of a Texas educator certificate Non-Certified Personnel u Non-certified personnel must be under the supervision of certified personnel in order to administer a state assessment u Non-certified personnel must be trained and sign an oath Testing Irregularities u u Serious Irregularities can include: u Cheating u Tampering with examinee responses u Viewing secure test material u Discussing secure test content u Scoring tests u Duplicating, recording or electronically capturing tests Procedural Irregularities can include: u Leaving a test session unattended u Leaving secure online tests open and visible u Failure to remove or cover all instructional displays u Failure to provide examinee with the correct student authorization Reporting Irregularities u u Serious Irregularities u Contact TEA immediately u Complete online incident report form u Collect signed and dated statements from individuals involved Procedural Irregularities u Complete online incident report form within 10 working days u Individual statements are not required Training Checklist for Campus Testing Coordinators u Schedule Training u Distribute Manuals u Prepare and Conduct Training u Study the Assessment Management System User’s Guide u http://www.texasassessment.com/guide u Train technology staff u Direct technology staff to review, prepare, and complete all online testing activities to ensure computers and network are ready for testing u Train test administrators and campus staff involved with testing u Schedule test sessions according to the calendar of events u TAKS Tests are UNTIMED u Each examinee must be allowed to have as much time as necessary to respond to every test item u Districts are not required to test beyond regular school hours, but they may if they choose Test Administrator Responsibilities u Maintaining security of test materials u Post a testing do not disturb sign u Remove instructional displays u The use of cell phones and electronic devices are prohibited u Must complete seating charts u Monitoring actively at all times u Reporting any suspected violation of test security to the campus coordinator u One test administrator for every 30 students u Monitor the online system u Ensure that examinees are working actively on the test u Ensure that examinees are seated and do not talk u Ensure that examinees exit the test during breaks, lunch, or restroom beaks u Ensure that examinees submit the test according to the directions when finished u Examinees who finish early may read a book or leave the testing room u Must hold a valid Texas educator certificate/permit OR be under the supervision of a professional who does Prepare for and Monitor Online Testing u Set-up and manage test sessions u Instructions can be found in the Assessment Management System User’s Guide u http://www.texasassessment.com/guide u Update student demographic information in the Assessment Management System u Create role-specific accounts for campus personnel and technology staff u Print student authorizations u Print ELA seal codes (ELA assessment only) u Print proctor authorizations for oral administrations u MUST Provide pencils (all tests), scratch paper (all tests) and graph paper (math test) u u Graph paper may be printed from http://www.texasassessment.com/downloads MUST provide a paper copy of the math chart (math test), science chart and periodic table (science test) u Download and print from http://www.texasassessment.com/downloads u Each examinee MUST be provided a graphing calculator on the math test (memory cleared) u Examinees MUST be provided four-function, scientific, or graphing calculators for the science test (ratio 1 calculator to 5 students) u Examinees MUST be provided dictionaries and thesauruses for the composition and reading sections of the ELA test (ratio 1 dictionary to 5 students) u Start test session, help examinees log into test, monitor test session u Resume examinee’s tests following a lunch break or restroom break ELA Seal Code Warning Screen u The seal code is a four-digit code used to allow an examinee into the revising and editing section of the ELA test u A dictionary and thesaurus can NOT be used on the revising and editing section u Examinees MUST raise their hand when they come to this warning screen u The test administrator MUST collect the examinee’s dictionary/thesaurus u A pop-up box will appear for the examinee to enter the four-digit code u The test administrator will give the examinee their ELA seal code to enter at this time u Examinees may NOT have access to dictionaries/thesauruses once the seal code is entered u Examinees may return to revise their short answer and written composition sections but are no longer permitted to use a dictionary or thesaurus Complete Online Testing u Verify the testing status of each examinee by refreshing the proctor session details screen u Examinees must click “Final Submit” when finished to submit their test for scoring u Examinees must appear in the “Completed” status on the proctor session details screen before they may leave the testing room u For examinees who cannot finish their test due to illness or a testing irregularity, contact the campus testing coordinator on directions for how to “Mark the Test Complete” u See Appendix B for coding examinees who receive accommodations u Stop the session when all examinees are in the “Completed” or “Marked Complete” status u Collect and destroy all student authorizations, seal codes, and scratch paper u Return all rosters, seating charts, calculators, dictionaries to the testing coordinator Test Administrator Directions u All directions must be read word for word from the manual u
