Welcome to the Purple Parade
T
he
field
bore
the
atmosphere of lazy ease.
The clocks of the clock
crossed four. Ramachandran Sir
called on the seniors and juniors
to assemble on the field. A hush
fell on the audience as the various
classes got ready for the march
past.
The march past was both
exciting and sombre. With every
drumbeat
the
atmosphere
intensified. Jaideep and Ismat of
class 12 were on the drums. As
the music of 'Chariots of Fire'
played (and screeched sometimes)
the momentum picked up.
Our school captain Sooraj was
proudly holding the school flag.
Following Sooraj were Twelth
standard captain Nehal and
placard holder Tushar. The
twelthies wearing dark purple
were
blending
with
the
atmosphere perfectly.
The eleventhies were right
behind with Sahayu leading their
class, head held high. The
eleventhies marching with their
bright red class t-shirt looked
really confident.
The Ten 'A' captain was Rhea
and following her was the placard
holder Prateek. They were
wearing a deep blue t shirt which
was well admired by all. The Ten
'B' captain was Sahas who was
leading his class well along with
Madhunika. Ninths debut was
really good with Sathvik Yuki
Nemani Fujiwara and Matrena
holding flags for their respective
classes. The placard holders were
Manasa and Priyanath. The class
colour was a nice grey (so said
Rajan Sir in his commentary and
a few people laughed), with a
logo which voices victory.
There was a flurry of purple t
shirts (mostly eigthies) as they
scrambled with their seniors'
cameras to capture the pictures of
the marchpast. A series of pictures
and videos were taken in the
course of the march past. After
this the torch was brought down
by the speedstar Muhil and was
taken around the field by Avinash
of Std 12.
This is the best moment in the
entire ceremony and is no less
than a world meet. The annual
sports day meet was finally
opened by Tanuj sir hoisting the
school flag and Ramachandran sir
saying a few words to derclare the
sports meet open.

M
yths, motifs, tracks ,
towers and chariots
seem
to
have
dominated the logo trends this
sports day. The 9ths who are fresh
to the game are looking forward
to it but 12ths who are leaving the
arena soon are recalling and
reminiscing titbits of their life
which mostly makes sense only to
them. The T shirts say it all.
The 9ths have a grey T shirt
with an elaborate motif taken
from Blackjack – the card game
of luck. It is the motif of two
snakes entangled with each other
and sporting the heads of King of
Diamonds and Ace of Hearts.
This was designed by Sai Manasa
and proudly proclaims VICTORY.
Mind,
Body & Soul
What connects ancient India
and RV? YOGA. This ancient
tradition has been a part of RV
ever since the school has begun
and is going strong even today.
Yoga is mainly the
coordination between the mind
and the body. It is also said to
improve ones stamina and
stability. Ramola sir has been
teaching yoga in RV for the last
12 years. Yoga is an important
part of the sport’s display.
Usually it starts with
Suryanamaskar and ends with
chanting of OM. Various
asanas and pranayamas are
displayed by a specially
selected group of students.
Aditya and Sanjna
The
10ths
had
many
contenders but finally Savithri’s
design (which she had submitted
last year too) won. How tastes
change within a year! It shouts
out at you – REACH OUT
REACH
HIGH
REACH
BEYOND. Their T shirt is a dark
blue and had to fight bitter battles
with Pink and Black before it
could be finally selected.
Kabir is the architect of Class
11 logo. Emblazoned on the
bright red T shirt is a chariot on
fire which asserts IN THE HOT
SEAT. It was to be the Leaning
Tower of Pisa with logos from
previous years entrenched in it
but the fiery chariot won in the
end.
Muhil has designed the 12th
logo. It is a collage of tracks and
blocks with many encrypted
messages. Right in the middle are
the words SID Mmm… Is it Sid
Menon or Sid meditating!
Frogging, papad shields, masks,
love signs and many more…You
can unravel all their little secrets
if you pay heed. By the way their
T shirt is purple.

The Coke of Rishi Valley
W
hat is the most
tempting and attractive
place in the whole of
the games field during SPORTS
DAY? It is the Walyte Tent. On a
hot morning, when you have run
around so much or even lazed
around a bit, Walyte tent seems to
be a favourite destination – the
coolest hot spot. Ever since it has
begun, this orange flavoured drink
has been attracting 160 – 200
students every session. What is its
secret? Is it the taste or the energy
that is the attraction?
Have you ever wondered about
the origin of this energy drink –
the neo coke of RV?
Long long ago, all the partici-
pants would be given some plain
glucose in their dirty hands. Many
thought that this was too
unhygienic. So around 10 years
ago, RV’s own brand of energy
drink --WALYTE was launched.
This drink contains Glucose,
Rasna, Walyte and water and is
truly the COKE OF RV.
So who is the Willy Wonka of
this orange drink factory? Radha
Akka of the hospital is the
mastermind
behind
this
rejuvenating drink and is the key
controller of the measures and
mixture of this drink. Srikala akka
and Srikumari akka have been her
partners for many years now.

Thusday, September 2, 2010 :: Page 3 What a Disappointment!
T
he greatest disappointment
in RV sports 2010 is the
ban on the heart pounding,
exhilarating … cockfight!! This
event was introduced to RV in
1998 by none other than our own
games instructor Reddy Sir when
he had joined the school.
The first few years went
smoothly but soon it became
obvious that sportsmanship was
dying out. It became a class
event. Once it became a class
event, students tended to form
polarised groups around the
classes. Reddy Sir and other
teachers were against this. But
there is another vital reason for
removing cock fight from sports
day. When a student jumps on
another student’s leg in the hot
sand, blisters tend to develop on
their feet. These blisters have
caused problems for some of our
star athletes. They were not able
to take part in any other events.
One good example (or should one
say bad!) was Shanki from last
year's sports day. Shanki took part
in the cockfight with a lot of
fanfare but soon developed a
large blister on his foot. He was a
very good athlete but could not
take part in any other event. As it
was his last sports day (he was
from class 12), he was greatly
disappointed. Although cock fight
was a popular sport, the ban on it
seemed inevitable after the
Shanki incident.

The Oath
We, the athletes gathered
here today,
Do solemnly swear to take
part
In the annual sports meet
To the best of our abilities
and
In the true spirit of
sportsmanship;
For the honour of our
school
And for the glory of sport.
For when the great scorer
comes
To score against our name
He seeks not whether
We’ve won or lost
But how we’ve played the
game.
Whose Line is it Anyway?!

Thusday, September 2, 2010 :: Page 4 Drills, Frills and Thrills
T
here was great excitement
in everyone as the sports
day drew near.The whole
of junior school was sweating it
out, missing all the freetime.
It was great fun for everyone
to see the tiny tots of prep
especially Keshav and(compared
to them )somewhat matured
fourthies perform rhythumic
movements with
the use of
dumbells .
Showcasing India's diverse
tradition the fifthies presented a
much loved gujrati dhandiya set
to the song MARO SONANO
GADULO NE.
Then came the eighthies
performing a mix of dances with
the formation of number eight in
the end.Running as soon as they
can into the arena the sevenths
made a grand entry with the clash
of the contrasts -black and
white.They performed a series of
human dominos in the formation
of a Yin Yang.Their drill reflected
a certain calmness to the games
feild .
Not far behind were the
sixthies with their colourful
ribbons waving along with the
soothing music.
The drills ended with the REC
coming up with yet another
imaginative dance.Set in their
native tongue telugu,it was about
a couple who were travelling in
train from Kuraballa Kota to
Tirupati.It was a lovely story
about the silly disputes between a
man and his wife.The song
accompaning the dance was
composed
and
tuned
by
Mr.E.Ramu of the REC.The drills
were recieved well and surely set
of this sports day with a bang!!

Fun Aftermath
There
is
always
some
excitement
during
the
drills,and loads after them
too.The classes are always
busy posing for class pics or
everyone is huddeled up near
Joshi Sir to see his kite soaring
high up in the sky. This year
unfortunetly there was no sign
of kite flying, but there were
class games which kept
everyone
equally
well
entertained. Everyone was in
the sports day spirit and were
delighted by the fact that there
are no classes for the rest of the
week (but the problem is that
the week is almost over !). The
tragedy of no kite flying didn't
really affect the spirit of the
first day a lot. But is the
tradition of kite flying dying
out?

High tea
T
he excitement of the sports day begins with the high tea. The
students and staff alike wait for the classes to get over. The
Dining Hall manager always has a special fare on the eve of
the sports meet. This year too lived upto the expectations. The tiffin
that was served today to the whole school was enjoyed by one and
all. Consisting of brownies, chips, ladoos, vada pav and grape
juice, this tiffin made everyone's mouth water! One could hear 'Wow'
all around. “I loved the brownies and grape juice “ rang out
Avinash's voice above the din. There were long queues at the
counters and people were going for second shares. It was very filling
and was energy giving. An ideal way to start Sports Day.

The Star of this year's Sports Day
Biography:
Born in 1899, 1st of April this
lucky chap was abandoned
directly after birth and was found
by a dhobi wala who had gone
behind a clump of trees to
secretly eat his paan. Little did
he[the dhobiwala] know that he
would find a plump little baby
sucking on his thumb a name tag
attached to his blanket.
Gauthaswamy, or as his friends
used to call him, Guttu, spent his
childhood years washing and
ironing clothes. When he was 12
years old, he started realising his
amazing talents as a comedian
and cheating people out of their
money. Not to forget he is a male
chauvinist and only predicts guys
outcomes.
Work in Rishi Valley:
In 1930 he came to work as the
DH manager. However, he
developed acute photophobia and
has been living underground
under the senior auditorium. He is
the cause for the mysterious
wailings reported as he feels
homesick for Besan Laddoos.
This year he is extremely
enthusiastic and hyper-active as
he knew that the sports day was
approaching. Last year he asked
the present ninth batch whether he
could take part in the Sports
Herald, but they declined his
proposal. We have decided to take
the risk and so, here is his feature.
His predictions for tomorrow:
100 Meters 'A' Boys
“ Sooraj puttar better wear your
lucky pink polka dotted hawaiin
shorts, otherwise you will slip at
the 50 meters mark and hurt your
funny bone. Take my warning
seriously or i will release nitrogen
in the air and everyone will be
rolling on the floor, and laughing
out loud. Avinash beta drink
complan tonight, you will be 100
meters tall and all you need to do
is fall and you will take it all!!!”
200 meters 'A' Boys
“ Haye re Nikhil. In the heats you
stopped in the end, but now make
our puny litlle hearts flop. Run
like the wind dude run like the
wind, Vayu ka aashirwad
tumhare, aur Sahayu ke saath hai.
Vayu......Sahayu!!! It rhymes
hehe. If you win I want my Besan
laddoos.”
100 Meters 'C' Boys
“ Mera upay for these people is
that be like Arjun.A, be 1 step
ahead of Avinash, be born a 100
meters tall. Practice your falling
beta, practice your falling. I want
my Besan laddoos desperately
{does Rangacharyulu sir sell them
in his huge shop???}. Gaurav
dont be shy, you will surely win.
Bhuva, recovering from chicken
pox wouldv'e only made you
faster. Besto.
!!!LADDOOSSSSSSSS!!!!!!
