Honeycomb E-Planner
Southborough is the first school in the country
to introduce an e-planner, which demonstrates
that we are a school that embraces technology
and modernity. So far, the system has been
working very well, with one or two teething
problems now resolved.
Please visit
http://southboroughhigh.digiplanner.co.uk/ in order to register.
Parents should use the e-mail used for school communication, with the initial password being 123456.
More detailed instructions are also be available on the school website. If you have any questions,
please e-mail Mr Edwards on dedwards@southborough.kingston.sch.uk .
Kind regards,

BOOK OF THE WEEK
Naruto Manga by Masashi Kishimoto
This book is about a young man who aspires to be the
leader of a village and eradicate all evil and hatred in
the world. Most people in the world have ninja powers which they use to bring peace and develop the
poorer areas. However with great power come great
responsibility, so some people us their skills for evil
and against the good communities. I like this series
because it is extremely interesting as mange is unique
and helps make reading more fun as there are plenty
of pictures.
WORD OF THE WEEK
Our word this week is 'proselytize'. The word proselytize is derived from Greek words that mean 'to
come towards'. The word proselytize means either to induce someone to convert to one's own religious faith or to induce someone to join one's own political party or to espouse one's doctrine.
YEAR 7 FOOTBALL
Congratulations to the Yr 7 football team who kicked off the season
with a 3-0 victory at home to Coombe Boys last week. The boys
fought hard throughout the match and finally secured victory with
goals from Charlie Whittaker (2) and Patrick Hegarty. Good luck to
the boys in this week's game against Hollyfield.
EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES AT SOUTHBOROUGH
First developed by the Council
of Europe, Strasbourg, the European Day of Languages has been celebrated every year since
2001 on 26th September.
Throughout Europe each year, 800 million people are encouraged to learn more languages, at any age, in and out of
school. With a whole-hearted belief that linguistic diversity is
an ideal way of achieving greater inter-cultural understanding,
the day allows us all to recognise and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our continent.
It was no surprise, then, that Head
of Modern Foreign Languages Mr
Johnson made sure that ‘European Day of Languages’ played a significant
and fun-packed part in the school diary this year. Indeed, lower school
students enjoyed a distinctly European flavour to their lessons and activities throughout Friday 26th September!
Year 7 and 8 students were encouraged to attend their lessons in traditional European outfits, with Mr Johnson very much taking the lead
dressed in his Lederhosen! Students got the chance to play French boules
in the classroom, sing Karaoke (in French, Italian, German and Spanish,
of course!) and there was a fun European – influenced hat making competition to add to the fun.
Students and MFL staff brought in an array
of European buffet food for everyone to sample, including paella, moussaka, Greek salads, French cheeses with baguettes – together with a
number of Asian dishes to really spice up the selection of delicious fare
on offer.
All in all, the day turned out to be great
fun and the students left a little bit more
aware of the activities, culture and flavours of our great continent compared to
when they first set foot in the school earlier that morning.
Many thanks must go to Mr Johnson, Miss
Banks, Mr Ruff and Mrs Dalmedo for organising such a fun-packed day, together
with all the parents, carers and students who went out of their way to
prepare food, dress up and contribute so willingly to the day’s events!
Mr Johnson in his lederhosen!
