2015 Call for Abstracts

Abstract Submission Deadline: Friday, November 14.
The 40 National Association of Hispanic Nurses ® (NAHN) is pleased to announce the 2015 conference
theme and call for presentation abstracts. This year’s theme, People, Purpose and Passion: The Pathway
to Success, offers a fresh outlook and timely insights into what’s happening today.

Who should submit presentation and poster ideas?
Nurses, physicians, nurse educators, researchers, clinicians, case managers, healthcare innovators and
students. NAHN welcomes your innovation, knowledge, expertise, research, challenges and successes.
This year, we boldly address timely issues surrounding equity and quality for Hispanic health. The 2015
NAHN Annual Conference in Miami is shaping up to be the best conference yet with exciting activities
and rich content. Join us. Be immersed in our diverse culture and experience all there is to offer at NAHN
2015.

Conference Learning Objectives:
You will need to list three (3) Session Behavioral Objectives in your proposal. NAHN's 2015 Conference
Objectives are listed below, and the information submitted in your proposal should address at least one
of the objectives to help set the stage for NAHN's Annual Conference.
1. Describe healthcare issues facing the Hispanic population, their
implications for nursing in the current healthcare system and the role
of new technology in improving care for these patients.
2. Identify ways in which nursing can improve care by using outcomes based research and current best practices and learn how care
improvements can be implemented in the clinical setting.
3. Recognize the value of advanced and continuing education for nurses
and quality education for patients in improving care, optimizing
outcomes, and increasing satisfaction.
4. Develop a professional leadership development plan that incorporates
career goals and important milestones and applies networking and
mentorship principles to enhance growth.
Presentation Types
NOTE: All poster/podium presenters once confirmed must register and pay for the conference. Register
for the conference at http://www.nahnnet.org starting in February 2015. Poster presentations require that
one of the authors listed in the abstract be available by the poster to present during the designated
poster session. If you are a presenter, you are asked to arrive the day prior to your presentation.

Guidelines for Submission
IMPORTANT: In order for your abstract to be reviewed, we require that presenters follow the guidelines
listed below. Upon acceptance of your abstract, presenters will receive detailed information further
information regarding the conference.
Podium and poster presentations are allowed a maximum of three authors/presenters
For the first/presenting author on the abstract, a maximum of three abstracts submissions will be
permitted.
We ask that you please ensure your presentation is unique to NAHN's conference; and that your
presentation is not given to another organization or event at least 2 months out from NAHN's Annual
Conference Dates.

Please note that submissions received via e-mail, mail or fax will not be considered.
All information received should be proofed for spelling and grammatical errors. Your submission will be
reviewed by NAHN's Board of Directors and Review Committee UNALTERED nor corrected for
typographical errors.

MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS
Each Speaker further agrees that:
- All presentations must adhere to the ACCME Standards for Commercial SupportSM. Presentations
cannot promote products or services. The presentation must promote improvements in health care.
Presentations that constitute promotion and advertising (including the use of logos) will not be
considered. If the cost of any presentation has been underwritten to any extent, a clear acknowledgment
stating the support, identifying the source, and describing the methods for keeping the content unbiased
should be included. Presentations that in any way promotes the commercial interest of a particular
company, enterprise, or the author(s)’ presentation may not be distributed or displayed. Statements made
in the presentation are the sole responsibility of the author; and are not viewed as, or considered
representative of, any formal position taken on any product, subject, or issue by NAHN.
- Only standalone presentation files such as Microsoft PowerPoint® will be used. No “.pdf” of
presentation slides can be accepted; only the original PowerPoint® file.
- Audio Visual equipment includes: 1 wired mic, single front-projection screen, and LCD projector. No
other audio visual (AV) equipment will be provided unless otherwise agreed upon in advance. Additional
fees will be billed to the presenter for any deviations from AV as defined.
- Speakers are required to bring and use their own laptop computers. NAHN DOES NOT FURNISH
COMPUTERS. NAHN strongly recommends all presenters carry a backup copy of the PPT should te chnical
issues arise.
- Session PowerPoint® or supplemental materials may be posted to NAHN's Conference Website as
handouts for pre-show download and review. Files will be converted to the Adobe Acrobat PDF file
format to allow registered attendees the opportunity to print handout copies for sessions attended.
- Speaker(s) agree to arrive at conference site for rehearsals and/or meeting rooms early enough to
ensure their final presentation is uploaded to their computer and displays properly with the AV
equipment for on-time presentation.
- Proposals constituting marketing pitches for products or services will be eliminated from the show.
Improperly or inadequately prepared submissions will be eliminated from review

REVIEW PROCESS
Subject matter experts and NAHN will make program selections based on Speaker and/or Poster
Selection criteria as described herein, using scoring criteria and qualified needs assessment based on the
following:
- Originality of material
- Overall quality of content including innovative programs
- Relevance / timeliness to current issues
- Well-defined focus and objectives
- Practical applications of material
- Level of speaking experience and expertise
- Basic, Intermediate, Advanced level knowledge
- Hands-on learning for immediate application
- Free from commercial bias ( no marketing is allowed in sessions)
- All components presented are neat and in the correct format
- Final selections are based on the best fit within the designed program curriculum. Abstracts that do not
fulfill all requirements stated in this packet will not be reviewed.
Proposals that meet the guidelines will be reviewed and confirmation of acceptance into the NAHN 2015
Program will be made by December 19, 2014.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR EXPENSES
- Presenters are responsible for ALL travel-related expenses (including hotel, travel, transportation, and
meals).
- No honorariums are paid to submitted presenters.
- No complimentary or discounted registrations will be provided to speakers.
