Student guide for accessing “My Desktop”    N.B.  What is “My Desktop”?  (Replaces Weblink)
Student guide for accessing “My Desktop” N.B. My Desktop ONLY works with Microsoft Internet Explorer, do not use Chrome, Safari, Firefox etc. What is “My Desktop”? (Replaces Weblink) My Desktop is a service for School of Business and Humanities students only that emulates a student lab computer. The student is presented with a desktop that they would normally see in labs 201 and 203. Instead of running the applications on a lab computer, the applications are hosted on a group of servers. This is the computer services department implementation of cloud computing. It gives students access to applications that they would not normally have on their home computer/tablet and also gives students access to their H: drive. How do I access “My Desktop” My Desktop can be accessed either inside the Institute or outside the Institute. The purpose of this document is to detail how to access My Desktop from outside the Institute 

Please follow the following troubleshooting tips before contacting computer services at computer.services@ittdublin.ie Make sure your version of Internet Explorer is up to date. (version 9 or above) Ensure you use stu\username when prompted to login. Ensure the ActiveX add on is enabled – To check this go to Internet Explorer and select Tools – Manage add‐on’s. There may be several add‐ons listed here but the crucial one is listed under Microsoft – “MsRdpClientShell Class” This must be set to enabled. Sometimes Internet Explorer will not enable the My Desktop add on so you will have to reset it to work. To do so select Tools – Internet Options and Advanced. Press RESET 


Internet Explorer will then prompt you to confirm you want to reset the browser. You don’t have to select “Delete personal settings” for the reset to work so leave this box unchecked. Restart Internet Explorer and access Https://Mydesktop.ittdublin.ie and you will be prompted to enable and install the Microsoft ActiveX Add‐on. No Remote Desktop Icon After Logging in: After logging into My Desktop you should get a screen with a “Remote Desktop” icon as below Should this icon be blank you need to turn off “Compatibility View” for Internet Explorer. To do so: Open Internet Explorer, Select Tools and click on “Compatibility View”. The tick mark should now not appear and the icon should be displayed as above.
