Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Elementary/Middle School Daily Announcements Monday, October 20 WHAT’S NEW TODAY? • PLEASE NOTE: Per Coach Godbert, U-10 soccer practice changed from 4:00-5:30pm to 5:00-6:30pm • Monday, Oct. 20 – Kindergarten Girl Scouts (Elem Cafe) – 3:45pm. Any Kindergarten girls still interested in joining Girl Scouts should stop in and talk to the other parents about joining the troop • Tuesday, Oct. 21 – 2nd grade Girl Scouts (Elem Café) – 3:45pm • Wednesday, Oct. 22 is school picture “retake” day. If, for any reason, a student/parent is not happy with their pictures they may have the photo retaken. Please note: you must bring the entire package back and give it to the photographer on retake day. No need to complete another order form. • Friday, Oct. 31 – Opera of the Young “Beauty and the Beast “ (MS Gym) – 9:30am • Friday, Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 2 – ELGHS Band & Choir Halloween Pops Concert (ELGHS Auditorium) – 6:30pm. Admission $5 • ELG Music Department Poinsettia Sale – orders due Nov. 17 with pick up on Thursday, Dec. 11 or Friday, Dec. 12. Please see below for more information. (link to form – website only) SPECIAL RECOGNITION This past weekend, one of Elkhart Lake’s finest, Nick Niemi, placed 3rd in the Wisconsin Middle School Mountain Bike Race, at Cascade Mountain in Portage. He was also awarded 3rd in the state OVERALL in the middle school rankings, after four races! Nick is part of the Washington County Trail Sharks, High School and Middle School Mountain Bike Team. Congrats Nick! Coach Rob (Dude) is looking forward to more fun and success next year! GOT FUNDRAISING EXPERIENCE! The ELGEF (Elkhart Lake Glenbeulah Education Foundation) is looking for fundraising committee members. Experience in fundraising events, ie., trivia night, walks, runs, a plus. Any help would be appreciated (remember, it is all for the kids!) LEARN PAD INTERNET INSTRUCTIONS (6th – 8th grade) In order to connect the student’s Learn Pad to your Internet provider, please follow the next steps: 1. You must complete these instructions on a home desktop or laptop computer. 2. Go this website: http://blog.qr4.nl/QR-Code-WiFi.aspx 3. It will ask you for your wireless networks SSID, password, and network security type. 4. You can find this information with the wireless router paperwork information - OR There is an app on each student’s LearnPad that will help you connect to the Internet at home. You are still asked to enter your wireless networks SSID, password and network security type – with the help of drop down menus. Thursday, Oct. 23 from 6:00 – 7:00pm in the IMC (parents) and Elem Cafeteria (children) b. Students and families in grades JK – 4th grade are invited c. Parents will meet in the IMC with our reading teacher Mrs. Ann Ahola. She will share helpful information with you on literacy and how to help your child improve comprehension skills. Mrs. Graumann will also review how to use “Destiny” to locate books in our system. Children will read “Spooky Stories” with Mrs. Bauer and make a Halloween craft. A Halloween snack and milk will be served! A FREE children’s book will be given to each child. d. Babysitting available for children under the age of five. e. Flyers were sent home with students this week. Please return the form, with the number attending, to the school office. (2) Halloween Bash at Community United Church of Christ (174 N. East St., Elkhart Lake), Lower Fellowship Hall a. 2:00 – 3:00pm, right before Village trick or treating b. Family-friendly games and snacks for the kids of all ages c. Prize for the best costume d. Silent auction for adults to join in on the fun (3) ‘Flock’ your friend’s lawn today!.... In exchange for a small donation of $20 to the ELGHS World Language Club, a surprise Pink Flamingo Flock will take roost in the lawn of a family member or friend for 48 hours! A Flamingo Flock sign will accompany 25+ pink flamingos, which will explain everything about removal and future destinations of the flock. It will be up to you whether the recipient finds out who ‘flocked’ their lawn or not – your identity will not be anywhere on the information! (4) The Red Cross is offering a Babysitter’s Training Course this Saturday, October 25th from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm at the Sheboygan Red Cross (2032 Erie Avenue). The class is FREE! Persons interested in the course should call 1-800-REDCROSS (1-800-733-2767) or go online at www.redcross.org to register. Participants will learn the responsibilities of a babysitter, how to prevent accidents, how to handle emergencies, some basic first aid, infant care skills, and more. Our music department is again working to bring in renowned artists to work with our students. To help defray the cost of their residence with us, the district music department is organizing a poinsettia sale b. Order forms will be sent home with students the week of Oct. 20; please collect money at time of order and return the order form to the Elem/Middle school office on or before Nov. 17 c. Poinsettias can be picked up on Thursday, Dec. 11, following the Elementary winter concert or Friday, Dec. 12 at the high school on the stage in the auditorium d. Thank you for supporting the ELG Music Department! (6) The Greenbush Kettle Moraine Trailblazers will be conducting a snowmobile safety course a. Dates: November 10, 17, 24, and Dec. 1, 2014, from 6:30 - 8:30 PM b. The first three classes will be held at the Greenbush Fire Department Meeting Room (N6644 Sugarbush Rd, Glenbeulah), with the last class being held at the Greenbush Town Hall c. Participants must be age 12 by April 1, 2015. Anyone born after January 1, 1985, needs a safety course certificate to legally drive on the trails d. Parents are welcome to attend e. Cost is $10.00. Pre-registration is mandatory as the class size is limited. Registration is done online on the DNR website f.
