General Meeting
Sunday October 19th at 1:30 pm
Presentation by
Caroline Cockfield and Joshua Knight
Caroline Cockfield and Joshua Knight,
students from Coastal Carolina
University, will be our presenters for the
October 19th, 2014 WACG meeting. Both
are local young people who have each
achieved an exceptional level of skill and
knowledge in the visual arts. Working
primarily in watercolors, depicting
representational imagery of portraits and
rural settings, Caroline and Josh will be
bringing several of their very best works
to share and discuss in an informal and
supportive gathering of fellow artists.
Please make plans to attend!

New Members
WACG is always interested in having new
members join us! When you meet someone who
may be interested – direct them to our website
www.wacg.org, there they will find all kinds of
information about us, our meetings, our shows,
newsletter issues, all of our activities, our history
and the benefits of being a member. The
membership application is there as well as the
prospectus for future shows when they are
available.
Full time students, ages 18-25 with valid student
ID, are eligible for FREE membership. If you are
a new member, or a past member whose
membership has been lapsed for 3 years or
more, and you pay your dues after Sept 1, then
your membership will run for the following year
too.
UPDATE
FROM THE PRESIDENT & BOARD
Jim Arendt from CCU spoke at the
September WACG general meeting about his
fabric art and why and how he does what he
does. Those present were very pleased with
his thought provoking, delightful talk.
The meeting was held a week later than
usual due to the Dixie Dugan Retrospective
at the museum. Dixie is a long time member
of the Guild and her exhibit is a treat. If you
haven't been to see it, please make an effort
to do so.
There was no Board meeting after the
general session, but one will be called
shortly. Progress continues to be made on
identifying and sorting the Guild's written
record. There is always room for more
documents to come in.
Eleven members exhibited at the Home
Show last month. Three more Art in the Park
events will take place in October and
November, and the Fall Show will be October
22-28 at the Seacoast Gallery at Market
Common.
Lisa Blayton and I represented the Guild at
the statewide SC Arts Conference in
Columbia on September 18th. It was a good
chance to meet others throughout the state
and to learn what's going on in the SC arts
scene. A recent poll indicated that a large
majority of palmetto citizens appreciate the
arts. Along that line, a current trend is to
make art events participatory rather than
passive.
Please make an effort to get involved in
the Guild's activities--your input and ideas
are valuable!
Hope to see everyone on Oct 19th! -
Carolyn Powell
Congratulations!
Mary Ann Davis had her article published in
