young carers (12 to 25) to continue or return to study. By relieving the financial
pressure to undertake part-time work, the program will help those in greatest need to
combine education with caring responsibilities. A bursary is similar to a grant and is
paid to young carers to reduce the financial pressure on the family. It is not a loan,

Edwards AM was involved for many years in redefining and reshaping services for
people with intellectual disability. Each year, his significant contribution is recognised
through an Award established in his name, which is granted in two categories: (1) A
person with intellectual disability in recognition of personal development and/or
achievement, or (2) A person who works directly with people with intellectual
disability in recognition of personal contribution to the lives of people with intellectual
disability. The Award comprises a monetary component to assist further
development, which could include (but is not restricted to) undertaking a project,
assisting in the pursuit of activities that enhance the life of the person with intellectual
disability, undertaking training or skills development programs, purchasing books or
equipment, or participation in a seminar or conference. Nominations can be made by

Victim Support Service in partnership with SAPOL and Uniting Communities. Guest
speakers include Detective Chief Superintendent Chris Hogben from the UK, a
representative from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child
Sexual Abuse, parents who gave evidence at the Royal Commission enquiry in
Adelaide and the Attorney-General’s Department. Tuesday 18 November 2014 from
9.30am to 4.30pm at Way Hall, Uniting Communities, Level 1, 10 Pitt Street,

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Launch of Aussie Mobile for People with Vision Impairment: Three friends from
Melbourne, in collaboration with Vision Australia, have created what they claim is the
first Australian designed mobile phone for people with vision impairment or who are
blind. It has no screen and can store up to 10 contacts that can be called by pressing
just one button. A high contrast in colours and a Braille option mean the phone is
extremely usable for people with vision impairment or who are blind; however since
being launched two months ago it has also been well received by people with
disability and the elderly.
