S01 Chicago - My Kind of Town

Welcome to Chicago! We will showcase outdoor sculptures by
such renowned artists as Calder, Chagall, Picasso, Miro and
Dubuffet; view splendid new modern architecture; explore
LaSalle Street, the financial center; State Street, “that great
street”; Millennium Park, and explore three of the world’s
five tallest buildings. The tour will continue with a drive down
Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile, our mecca of shops,
parks and gardens. Continuing our journey north along Lake
Michigan’s beautiful Outer Drive, we will enter the gateway to
the city’s glamorous Gold Coast.
You haven’t seen Chicago until you’ve seen it from the Willis
Tower Skydeck! One of the world’s tallest buildings, this 1,454
foot steel structure will afford guests spectacular views of
the city from the observation deck located on the 103rd floor.
Back along the lake’s southern shores, you will view majestic
Buckingham Fountain, Museum Campus, and colorful yacht
marinas. A brief stop will be made at “Planetarium Point”, the
perfect spot for picture-takers to capture Chicago’s famous
skyline. Time permitting, the group will see the Lincoln Park
Zoo and Conservatory.

fine craft spirits...not to mention a chance at discovering
some of FEW Spirits’ Limited Edition micro batches of specialty liquors. When available, these highly sought after libations
will be offered for purchase alongside the standard FEW

S04:Welcome to Chicago

AlliedPRA Chicago will provide a local expert to present AAO
and guests with a brief history of Chicago and talk about
some of its most famous locations and landmarks. The presentation will consists of Chicago facts and photos that will
help guests familiarize themselves with downtown Chicago
and learn about some of the most popular things to do in the
city. NOTE: Although this event is complimentary
spaces are limited and it is still necessary to register.
S05:Frank Lloyd Wright Home
& Studio Tour
Date: Saturday, October 18, 2014
Time: 9:15am-12:15pm
Cost: $97 per person
This tour will begin in the historic neighborhood of Oak Park.
Guests will take part in an exclusive guided tour of Frank
Lloyd Wright’s Home and Studio. The extraordinary Home and
Studio complex served as Wright’s architectural laboratory
from 1889 to 1909, the years that launched his career. Here
he conceived the Prairie Style of architecture and tested ideas
that found their fullest expression in many of the surrounding
homes he designed for clients. Today, the Frank Lloyd Wright
Home and Studio is an accredited house museum restored
to its 1909 splendor. The museum is home to an impressive
collection of furniture and decorative arts objects designed by
Wright himself.
S06:Architectural River Cruise

Aboard this 90-minute cruise, guests will unravel the story of
Chicago and its evolution into one of the world’s best destinations. You will discover its journey through time beginning
as a tropical sea over 400 million years ago, to the ice age
when whales swam in Lake Chicago, to its days as a frontier
outpost, and finally, to its modern days of rail and the present.
Throughout this cruise a professionally trained docent showcases the work of those who helped revolutionize the building
arts. Those aboard will view examples like Ludwig Mies van
der Rohe’s IBM Building, Marina City, the Board of Trade,
Helene Curtis Building, and hundreds more!
S07: Tiffany Treasures

The Tiffany Treasures Experience will take you on a visit
through four of Chicago’s most magnificent art-glass and
mosaic installations. Each designed and crafted by the Tiffany
Glass and Decorating Company, our stops will include a vault,
a rotunda, several domes, and light fixtures in four landmark
buildings of the late-19th century: the Marquette Building, the
Chicago Cultural Center, and Macy’s on State Street.

World & Dinner Reservations

school of improvisation. Second City specializes in sketch
comedy and improv and has been delighting audiences for
over 50 years. We have resident companies in Chicago and
Toronto as well as National Touring Companies and casts on

All levels of experience are encouraged to participate. Class
begins with a glass of wine and a tasty treat. Each guest of
the class will recreate the featured picture of the afternoon.
Follow the instructor’s step-by-step guidance and conclude
with a painting suitable for framing. Marvel at each artist’s
unique version of the original and share in a sense of pride in
your completed masterpiece!

Chicago Detour’s Jazz, Blues, and Beyond Tour is a bus tour
that offers you an in-depth and personal connection with the
Windy City’s famous jazz and blues culture as well as viewing
some of the city’s most unique architecture. Tour buses are
equipped with video screens which allow you to view historic
photos and video clips of how Chicago came to be a hotbed
for jazz and blues music. The tour concludes with a blues
musician boarding the tour bus to perform and give guests a
harmonica lesson with your own harmonica to take home to
continue the experience.
S12:Poker, Politics and Prohibition

Experience Chicago as it was during the 1920s and 30s! This
two-hour live action tour gets you the inside story on Chicago’s windiest politicians, rollicking red-light districts, and most
notorious vice games. This tour fills you with the excitement
of jazz-age Chicago during the era of Prohibition. Journey into
the past as we cruise the city in search of the old hoodlum
haunts, brothels, and gambling dens. It will provide historically
accurate accounts of the exploits of Capone, Moran, Dillinger
and the rest of the gangsters of Chicago’s historic “Untouchables” era.

Registration Information
Tour buses will depart from and return to the Tour Departure
Desk in McCormick Place, South, Level 1 Lobby. We encourage you to meet there to depart as a group. If you plan to
find your own transportation to or from a tour and you need
directions, please visit the Tour Departure Desk for assistance.
Avoid long lines onsite—register by Sept. 3 to have
your badge and materials mailed to you in advance.
• Transportation is provided on all tours, except where
noted with an asterisk (*).
• Please allow sufficient time to reach the Tour
Departure Desk in McCormick Place, South,
Level 1 Lobby, as refunds cannot be made for
latecomers who miss the tour bus.

The Academy wishes to ensure that no individual with

• Spouse/Guest registration can be completed online,
which is the most efficient way to register, with
immediate confirmation provided.
• The Spouse/Guest registration category is open to
spouses and guests accompanying AAO 2014
professional registrants.
• A co-worker or an associate within the industry may
not use the Spouse/Guest registration category.
• Spouses and guests who are physicians must register
for the AAO 2014 as professional attendees if they wish
to receive verification of attendance or CME credit.
• Spouses and guests must be registered in order
to purchase tickets for the Tour Program, visit the
Exhibition, attend scientific sessions, and purchase
the Academy Plus course pass or other ticketed events.
The course pass and ticketed events that are not tours
may only be purchased onsite.
• Spouse and guest badges are not valid for entry to
Subspecialty Day or the AAOE Program.
• Children 17 years of age and under receive complimentary registration. They may enter the Exhibition
only if they are wearing a badge and are accompanied
by a registered adult.
• Because of the scientific nature of AAO 2014, children
may not attend scientific sessions, instruction courses or
any other aspect of the Scientific Program.
Tour Ticket Purchases
• AAO 2014 registrants (i.e., physicians, health professionals, etc.) may order tour tickets online and do not need
to pay the Spouse/Guest registration fee.
• Exhibitors may not purchase tour tickets in advance.
However, they may purchase tour tickets onsite, as available. Exhibitors and their guests or spouses may register
in advance at Exhibitor Central or onsite at Exhibitor
Registration.
• Some tours have extremely limited capacities, so
you are encouraged to register and purchase tour
tickets as soon as possible for the best selection.
• Tickets to sold-out events may become available onsite;
please check availability at Ticket Sales, South, Hall A.

Registration and Tour Cancellations
Tours with insufficient enrollment are subject to cancellation.
NOTE: Tours will not be cancelled because of inclement
weather, so please plan accordingly.
The tour company reserves the right to make comparable substitutions if circumstances beyond their control
necessitate a change in any element of the published
program.
To cancel your registration and receive a refund, a written
request including your name and the professional attendee’s
Academy identification number must be received by Sept. 3.
There will be a per-person, per-meeting cancellation processing fee of $75 or your total registration fee, course pass and
ticket fees, whichever is less, will be assessed. No refunds
will be processed for cancellation requests received after the
Sept. 3 deadline.
