WEEKLY LANE CLOSURES AND WORK ZONE ADVISORY
FORT LAUDERDALE — Florida’s Turnpike announces updated lane closures and work zones due to construction and
maintenance projects in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie counties, for the week beginning
Sunday, Oct. 19.
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
GOLDEN GLADES ALL-ELECTRONIC TOLLING AND ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS

One or two lanes in each direction may be closed on Florida’s Turnpike near the Golden Glades toll gantry between
10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, through Thursday, Oct. 23.

One or two lanes in each direction will be closed on Florida’s Turnpike, north and south of Hollywood Boulevard (in
Broward County), between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, through Thursday, Oct. 23.

Southbound Turnpike exit to eastbound Hollywood Boulevard (Exit 49B) – Closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Monday, Oct. 20, through Wednesday, Oct. 22.
o DETOUR: Southbound traffic should use the southbound exit to westbound Pines Boulevard (Exit 49A),
make a U-turn and go east to Hollywood Boulevard.

Southbound Turnpike entrance from Hollywood/Pines Boulevard – Closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct.
20, through Wednesday, Oct. 22.
o DETOUR: Traffic should take Pines Boulevard west to University Drive, go south to County Line Road and
then go east to the Turnpike.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: An all-electronic tolling gantry has been constructed to replace the Turnpike’s Golden Glades
toll plaza. No-cash tolls went into effect in January 2014. In addition, a new SunPass-only ramp has been constructed at
the Hollywood/Pines Boulevard interchange, and the connector ramp from the Turnpike’s Homestead Extension to the
northbound Turnpike is being widened. Approximate cost: $19.9 million.

TURNPIKE WIDENING, SOUND WALLS AND EXPRESS LANES – EUREKA DRIVE TO KILLIAN PARKWAY

One Turnpike lane in each direction may be closed from Eureka Drive/Southwest 184th Street to S.R. 874/Don Shula
Expressway between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, through Thursday, Oct. 23. At least one lane in each
direction will remain open.
o The Turnpike road shoulder may be closed at various points along the project corridor during daytime hours
Monday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 24, to facilitate the entry and exit of delivery trucks.

Southwest 117th Avenue – One lane in each direction may be closed beneath the Turnpike overpass from 9 p.m. to
5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, through Thursday, Oct. 23.

Southwest 168th Street – One lane in each direction will be closed intermittently beneath the Turnpike overpass
during daytime off-peak hours, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 24.
o Traffic may be stopped for a few minutes at a time for bridge construction activities.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Turnpike will be widened to eight and 12 lanes, and express lanes, similar to those on I-95,
will be added. The Turnpike/S.R. 874 interchange will be realigned. Sound barrier walls will be built along residential areas.
Work also includes asphalt milling and resurfacing, bridge widening, drainage, lighting, landscaping, signage and traffic
signal improvements on local roads. Construction began in March 2014 and is scheduled for completion in early 2017.
Approximate cost: $145.3 million.
TURNPIKE WIDENING, SOUND WALLS AND EXPRESS LANES – SW 216th ST. TO EUREKA DR. (EXITS 11-13)

Eureka Drive/Southwest 184th Street – One or two lanes in each direction may be closed at the Turnpike
interchange from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, through Thursday, Oct. 23.

Southbound Turnpike exit to Eureka Drive – One of ramp lane will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, Oct.
19, through Thursday, Oct. 23. At least one ramp lane will remain open.

Quail Roost Drive/Southwest 186th Street – Around-the-clock lane reductions are in effect in the westbound
direction approaching the Turnpike overpass; one through lane remains open.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Turnpike will be widened from four lanes to six, eight and 10 lanes. Express lanes, similar
to those on I-95, will be constructed. Sound barrier walls will be built along residential areas on the east side of the
Turnpike. Work also includes asphalt milling and resurfacing, bridge widening, drainage, lighting, signage and traffic signal
improvements on local roads. Construction began in Aug. 2013 and is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2016.
Approximate cost: $40.9 million.
BROWARD COUNTY
I-595 EXPRESS CORRIDOR (MILEPOSTS 53-55)
Currently, Florida’s Turnpike is under construction from Griffin Road (Exit 53) to Peters Road (Milepost 55) as part of an
I-595 Express Corridor utility project. Up to two Turnpike lanes in each direction may be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Sunday, Oct. 19, through Thursday, Oct. 23.

TURNPIKE TOLL EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE – MIRAMAR

One southbound Turnpike lane beneath the Miramar toll gantry (Milepost 47) will be closed from 9 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 22, to 5 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23. At least one lane will remain open.
TURNPIKE MAINTENANCE – MILEPOST 66-67

Up to two of three northbound and southbound lanes on the Turnpike immediately north of the Pompano
Service Plaza will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Sunday, Oct. 19 and Friday, Oct. 24.
SAWGRASS EXPRESSWAY – ALL-ELECTRONIC TOLLING CONVERSION

Motorists may run into single- and double-lane closures northbound and southbound at various locations throughout
the Sawgrass Expressway between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. between Sunday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 24.

Northbound Sawgrass Expressway exit to Lyons Road will close from 9 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 19, to 5 a.m.,
Monday, Oct. 20.
o DETOUR: Traffic should exit at U.S. 441, go south to Wiles Road and then east to Lyons Road.

Southbound Sawgrass Expressway entrance from Lyons Road will close from 9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 20, to 5
a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 21.
o DETOUR: Traffic should travel north on W. Hillsboro Blvd. to U.S. 441, then travel south on U.S. 441 to enter
the Sawgrass.

Northbound Sawgrass Expressway exit to northbound U.S. 441 will be closed from 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, to 5
a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21.
o DETOUR: Traffic should use the exit to southbound U.S. 441, make a U-turn and head north.

The southbound Sawgrass Expressway exit to Commercial Boulevard may be closed from 9 p.m., Tuesday,
Oct. 21, to 5 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 22; and from 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, to 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24.
o DETOUR: Traffic should exit at Atlantic Boulevard and take Nob Hill Road south to Commercial Boulevard.

The northbound Sawgrass Expressway entrance from Commercial Boulevard may be closed from 9 p.m. to 5
a.m., between Wednesday, Oct. 22, and Friday, Oct. 25
o DETOUR: Traffic should take Nob Hill Road north to Atlantic Boulevard and then go west to the Sawgrass
Expressway.

One northbound lane on the Sawgrass Expressway in the vicinity of the Deerfield Toll Plaza will be closed
from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., between Monday, Oct. 20, and Wednesday, Oct 22. Ramps and access to the Turnpike and
SW 10th Street will not be closed.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Sawgrass Expressway was converted into an all-electronic, no-cash toll road on April 19,
2014. Tollbooths are being removed and replaced with all-electronic tolling gantries. Construction will take place from July
2013 through early 2015. Approximate cost: $40.6 million.
SAWGRASS EXPRESSWAY – MILLING AND RESURFACING

Two of three southbound lanes on the Sawgrass Expressway from milepost 0 to 8 may be closed from 9 p.m.
to 6 a.m. between Sunday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 24.

Southbound Sawgrass Expressway exit to Commercial Boulevard will be closed as needed from 11 p.m. to 5
a.m. between Sunday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 24.
o DETOUR: Traffic should exit at Oakland Park Boulevard, to Oakland Park Boulevard east, to Hiatus Road,
north to Commercial Boulevard.

Atlantic Boulevard entrance to Southbound Sawgrass Expressway will be closed as needed from 11 p.m. to 5
a.m. between Sunday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 24.
o DETOUR: Traffic should take Hiatus Road north to Commercial Boulevard then travel west to Sawgrass
Expressway.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Asphalt pavement on the Sawgrass Expressway is being replaced from its southern terminus
at Interstate 75 to south of Atlantic Boulevard in Broward County. The $7.7 million project is scheduled to be completed in
early 2015.
PALM BEACH COUNTY
LAKE WORTH ROAD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT (EXIT 93)

One of three lanes on westbound Lake Worth Road between Nassau Road and the entrance to Florida’s
Turnpike may close intermittently between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m., from Sunday, Oct. 19, to Friday, Oct. 24. The
Turnpike entrance ramps will not be affected.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A dedicated westbound right turn lane from Lake Worth Road to Florida’s Turnpike ramp
entrance at Milepost 93 is being constructed. The $370,000 project is expected to be finished in late 2014.
OKEECHOBEE BOULEVARD RAMP IMPROVEMENT – (EXIT 99)

No closures scheduled.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A realignment and repaving project on the southbound exit ramp from Florida’s Turnpike to
Okeechobee Boulevard (Exit 99) in Palm Beach County. The $1 million project is expected to be complete in fall 2014.

ST. LUCIE COUNTY
PORT ST. LUCIE/FORT PIERCE SERVICE PLAZA RECONSTRUCTION – (MILEPOST 144)

The Port St. Lucie/Fort Pierce/Service Plaza (mile marker 144) on Florida’s Turnpike is under reconstruction.
The facility’s gas station, convenience store and restaurants will remain open to travelers throughout the two-year
improvement project.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The renovation and reconstruction of the Port St. Lucie/Fort Pierce Service Plaza includes a
40,000-square-foot restaurant building; 3,500-square-foot convenience store and fueling pumps; and expanded truck
parking. The $21 million upgrade project is expected to be complete in 2016.
