Supported by Cake Craft & Decoration Magazine SCHEDULE OF COMPETITIONS Competition entries are invited for the following classes. Entry is open to anyone except where a restriction is contained within the class schedule. Competitors are advised to read the rules and schedule carefully, ensuring that their entry complies with the requirements of their chosen class. For Competition Entry Forms, extra Schedules and Rules & Regulations please visit www.cakeinternational.co.uk You may enter more than one class (see below for information) but we do need your entries by 17 October latest. If you have any queries about entering the competitions email Melanie Underwood on melanieu@ichf.co.uk with your question. Cash prizes will be given to the top three in each class – 1st £75, 2nd £50, 3rd £25 – together with a certificate. There will be an overall prize of a Kenwood Chef Titanium KM030 – rrp £499.99 for ‘The Overall Best in Show’ winner and a trophy for the ‘Best in Show International’ Exhibit (overseas competitors) from Renshaw. These prizes will be announced at the prize-giving on Sunday 9 November at 12noon in the Cake International Theatre. It could be you who joins the ‘Best in Show Roll of Honour’ alongside Jan Thorpe (Cake 1999 & 2002), Toshie Harashima (Cake 2000), Nik Holmes (Cake 2001 ), Carole Evans (2003), Risa Kuriyama (2004), Elizabeth Fundell (2005), Sandra Maria Clennell (2006), Susan Tarran (2007), Barbara Fox (2008), Susan Tarran (2009), Sandra Grice (2010), Elaine Thomas (2011), Nicholas Smith (2012) and Rose Macefield (2013). Each class states whether or not CAKE DUMMIES are permitted in that class. COLD PORCELAIN is not permitted unless stated. Competitors must complete an entry form for each class. A registration fee of £14.00 per person allows entry to one class; subsequent entries by the same individual will be charged at £14.00 each. Included in this fee will be a competitor badge for entry to the show on all three days, which must be worn at all times. This will be available on delivery of your exhibit(s) to the show. A competitor plus one helper only is allowed into the set-up area. The last date for entries will be Friday 17 October 2014. The entry forms must be submitted through our website – www.cakeinternational.co.uk Child entries are £14.00 also, and include a competitor badge which can be used by the parent or guardian. BC13/Competition/2CompetitionIntro CAKE INTERNATIONAL, The Sugarcraft, Cake Decorating & Baking Show COMPETITION RULES & REGULATIONS : 7-9 November 2014 Entries Competitors must complete an entry form for EACH ENTRY and apply online at www.cakeinternational.co.uk by the closing date. PLEASE NOTE, any exhibit should not be shown on any social media site, otherwise your exhibit may be disqualified. All entries must be the bonafide work of the individual who has entered. Registration fee : Each entry must be accompanied by the correct registration fee of £14. THERE ARE NO REFUNDS. Closing date The closing date for all entries is Friday 17 October. Delivery of Exhibits All exhibits should be presented at the time and day specified. Each competitor will register on arrival and be allocated space to position their exhibit. The organisers reserve the right to move the exhibits as necessary. A repair area will be available for competitors' use, for mending any damages incurred in transit. Bring your own repair kit. Travelling boxes must be removed from the exhibition after delivery and brought back to the show on collection. There are no storage facilities. Late entries only accepted at the Show Manager's discretion. The competition area will be open for the delivery of entries to Hall 17 door 17.4 from 0700 - 0845 on Friday 7 November 2014. Competitor plus one helper only is allowed into the set-up area. Once you have placed your competition piece, please leave the hall and re-enter through the main entrance when the show opens. The show opening times are 0930 - 1730 Friday, 0900 – 1730 Saturday and 0900 - 1700 Sunday. Competitors reference labels Two labels will be issued to competitors on their arrival at the show. Please attach one label to your exhibit so that it is visible to the judges and the other to the base of your exhibit for security purposes. You must then place your exhibit on the Competition Table where indicated by the class and exhibit number. Competitor Badges will be issued at this time, competitors only become eligible to receive their badges on delivery of their exhibit. Badges must be worn at all times, including the Prize Giving. Security While reasonable care will be taken with the security of the exhibits, the organisers will not be responsible for any loss or damage to exhibits, equipment or personal effects. Intellectual Property Rights By entering the competitions and allowing work to be shown at the Cake exhibition PLEASE BE AWARE that photographs or copies may be taken by any person or visitor and realise that your designs/work may be reproduced but you will not hold ICHF or its employees liable in any way should this happen. Photographs Please note, photographs of prize winning competition piece(s) may be printed in future issues of Cake Craft & Decoration Magazine. Removal of Exhibits from Show All exhibits must be removed at the time stated - and NOT before. Collection can commence from 1700 Sunday 9 November. Please be aware of this rule when organising your travel plans. The organisers reserve the right to remove and destroy any exhibit not taken by 18.00 on Sunday 9th November. Results Judging will take place during the first day of the show. Results will be made available on Saturday afternoon after 1600 and will be available online at www.cakeinternational.co.uk Judges Forum To enable you to understand how the judges have arrived at their decisions they will be available to discuss your results on Sunday from 0930 until 1600 in the competition area. Competitors are encouraged to seek the advice and guidance of the Chairman of Judges after the results have been posted. Award guidelines Each entry should be the unaided work of the competitor whose name appears on the entry form. The judges will be looking for the following: ‚ Creativity/development of new ideas ‚ Workmanship/craft skills shown ‚ Composition/colour and proportion ‚ Presentation and visual appeal Exhibits that do not comply with the given schedule will be disqualified. Awards Awards will be made to the standard achieved. When a standard is not achieved no award will be made. These standards will be common to all our cake shows: Gold Award Bronze Award 90% or more 65% or more Silver Award Certificate of Merit 75% or more 55% or more Award Ceremony The award ceremony will take place at 12noon on Sunday 9 November in the Cake International Theatre. Only the first, second and third prize certificates will be presented at the prize giving. All other awards should be collected from the Competition Office between 1500 and 1600, which is central to the competition area. All cash prizes must be signed for and collected from the Competition Office also. Tasted Classes Tasted class exhibits will be cut through the middle to show the construction. Attention should be given to portion size and decoration. Flavours and texture are important and the decoration should be in proportion to the portion. Inedible supports are not permitted. All competitors In the UK our Food Standards Agency states that ‘Anything that is inserted into a cake must be food approved’. Dummies are allowed in some classes for your convenience, they should be treated as cake for the purposes of the competition. Acknowledgements Competitors will receive an acknowledgement of their entry. Please present this at the Registration Desk on arrival. Look for Competition Registration signs. Adult helpers will need their own admission ticket to access the show. Children are not permitted in the registration area unless they are competitors. Cakes may be covered in any suitable edible material and sugar sprays may include wires, tape, ribbon and stamen. Dummies may be used. Entries in this class restricted to visitors to the show from a registered overseas address. To fit within a base area of 46cm (18”). B. FLORAL SUGARCRAFT sponsored by: Orchard Products A floral exhibit showing all stages of development of a flower. Competitor to choose flower type and method of display. The display must contain between three and five stages of development. No height restrictions. To fit within a base area of 30cm(12in) square. C. A FLORAL ARRANGEMENT sponsored by: Cake-Stuff.com A floral arrangement containing a minimum of 12 flowers and foliage. Berries and buds permitted but the display must contain at least 12 fully formed flowers. Wires, stamen, tape and ribbon permitted. Non-edible containers may be used. To fit within a base area of 38cm (15”). D. A DECORATIVE EXHIBIT USING NON EDIBLE MATERIAL sponsored by: Artista Soft Distributors A decorative exhibit of your choice. Internal supports permitted, but no visible external supports allowed except in wired flowers and foliage. The display must include either flowers, figure or model made out of any non-edible modelling medium used in sugarcraft.. No height restriction. To fit within a base area of 38cm (15”). CELEBRATION CAKE FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION: sponsored by: Renshaw A single tiered cake covered with sugarpaste, royal icing or chocolate for a special occasion, decoration of competitors choice. Exhibits must have a piped inscription with a minimum of twelve letters/numbers indicating the occasion. A dummy may be used. Exhibit to fit within a base area of 38cm (15”). F. NOVELTY CAKE: Novel design sponsored by: Buy and Bake A regular shaped cake decorated in a novel fashion with any suitable medium. NO dummies or internal supports to be used. The cake and all decorations must be edible (and may be cut to ensure it complies with criteria). Exhibit to fit within a base area of 46cm (18”). G. SHOES AND HANDBAGS sponsored by: Caketinsmith.co.uk Create a cake featuring handbags or shoes (or both) in the design. The cake and decorations must all be of edible material. Dummies and non-edible supports/boards are NOT permitted. The cake may be sculpted or be a regular shape featuring the accessories mentioned. To fit within a base area of 48cm (18”). H. CELEBRATION CAKE FOR CHRISTMAS: sponsored by: Fyne Acrylics A single tiered cake covered with sugarpaste or royal icing for Christmas. Decorations to be made from any edible medium. Wires, stamens, thread, ribbon and floristry tape allowed but must not penetrate the coating. A dummy may be used. Exhibit to fit within a base area of 38cm (15”) J. SCULPTED NOVELTY CAKE sponsored by: Cake-Stuff.com A sculpted cake covered in any suitable edible medium. The cake and decorations must be edible and no internal supports used. Dummies NOT permitted. The cake may be cut to ensure it complies with the criteria. Exhibit to fit within a base area of 60cm (24”). K. A DECORATIVE EXHIBIT sponsored by: The Cake Craft & Decoration Magazine A decorative exhibit of your choice. Internal supports permitted, but no visible external supports allowed except in wired sugar flowers and foliage. Mediums may include chocolate, marzipan, pastillage, sugarpaste or salt dough. No height restriction. To fit within a base area of 60cm (24”). L. A SMALL DECORATIVE EXHIBIT sponsored by: A small decorative exhibit of your choice. Wired sugar flowers and foliage, ribbons and artificial stamens are permitted. Dummies are permitted. All display drapes must be contained within the permitted area. No height restriction. The display must contain just TWO different decorative styles and flavours, six of each. All decoration must be edible. Two cupcakes will be selected at random for tasting (one of each flavour) Eating quality is important. Stands permitted. No height restriction. To be displayed within a base area of 38cm (15”). STUDENT CLASS: Open to all full/part time students who are enrolled on a training course within a college or commercial establishment. O. DECORATED CELEBRATION CAKE sponsored by: Cake Angels A single tier cake to be coated in sugarpaste or royal icing. Theme and decoration to be of the competitor’s choice but MUST include one of the following skills - handmade or piped sugar flowers, brush embroidery, bas relief, piped extension work, run-outs, modelling, air brush techniques, painting, free formed writing. Ribbons, stamens, thread, wires and floristry tape permitted. No other artificial decoration allowed. A dummy may be used. Cake to fit within a base area of 38cm (15”) square. JUNIOR CLASSES: Young people are invited to enter the following age restricted classes. Students from schools particularly welcome. P. A DECORATIVE EXHIBIT – Open to young people 18 years and under sponsored by: Patchwork Cutters A decorative exhibit of your choice. Internal supports permitted, but no visible external supports allowed except for wired sugarflowers and foliage. Any modelling medium may be used. No height restriction. To fit within a base area of 38cm (15”). Q. BIRTHDAY CAKE – restricted to young people 12 years and under sponsored by: Patchwork Cutters Design and decorate a 20cm (8”) round birthday cake for a friend. Style and coating of competitor’s choice but must include an inscription. A cake dummy may be used but all decorations must be edible. Maximum board size 30cm (12”). R. BIRTHDAY CAKE – restricted to young people between 13 and 16 years of age. sponsored by: Renshaw Design and decorate a 20cm (8”) round or square birthday cake for a friend. Style and coating of competitor’s choice but must include an inscription. A cake dummy may be used but all decorations must be edible. Maximum board size 30cm (12”). LIVE CLASSES: Competitors are invited to enter the following PME live classes. All entries must be accompanied by a photograph illustrating the Cake/Cupcakes that they are prepared to recreate at the 2014 Live Finals S. PME Cupcake Challenge 2014 1st Prize £300.00 This competition is open to all UK and International cake decorators. BC14/ApplicationForms/3Competition Schedule 3 Prepare a display of 20 decorated cup cakes. The display must contain at least 4 different decorative styles and flavours, 5 identical of each and must be presented on the PME Spiral Cupcake Stand that will be provided. All decoration must be edible. Cupcakes will be selected at random for tasting (one of each flavour) Eating quality is important. Prepared cupcakes, icings and edible mediums allowed. All decorations to be produced within the 3hrs time allowed T. PME Student of The Year 2014 1st Prize £300.00 This competition is open to students attending any cake decorating classes at a college, bakery school, cake decorating school or retail shops. Assemble and decorate a celebration cake using a pre-baked cake. Coating may be a combination of sugarpaste, royal icing, buttercream or chocolate. Any shape and size allowed, decoration of competitors choice. Internal supports may be used for the purpose of stacking cakes but only if they conform to UK Food Regulations and are certified for food use. All other internal supports when used in sugar items such as sugar models etc must be edible ie: sugar sticks, spaghetti. Prepared icings and edible mediums allowed. All decorations to be produced within the 3hrs time allowed. U. PME Cake Decorator of the Year 2014 1st Prize £500.00 This competition is open to all UK and International cake decorators. Assemble and decorate a celebration cake using a pre-baked cake. Coating may be a combination of sugarpaste, royal icing, buttercream or chocolate. Any shape and size allowed, decoration of competitors’ choice.
