Once again we are very grateful to Louise for taking on the role as internal auditor – a thankless task but one which protects everyone who is involved with handling cash. Chris 152nd Chapel Anniversary Celebrations – Sunday 26 October 2014 We want to make this a special day again this year, as we celebrate the years of worship, witness and work based in and from this building. During these times God has been faithful even when we have been faithless and found the going tough. Please come and join in the following on Sunday 26 October: Everyone Worships Together 9.45am Your choice Songs of Praise 11.30am Bring and share Lunch 12.00noon We’ll be getting some slips out to enable you to choose a favourite hymn and we’ll try and include as many as we can. There will be a list out to sign up for lunch and to indicate what savouries you can bring for the table. In addition we’ll be asking specific individuals to prepare desserts for us to enjoy before our final cuppa Please put the date in your diaries and plan to come along. Girls in God Growing Loving Eating Sharing We got the new ‘Giggles’ year off to a really good start with a Scrabble and Chip Supper on Monday 22 September. It certainly got those grey cells working and also gave us lots of laughs at the same time. It was especially nice to have Revd Carole Challis join in with evening. We are hoping that Carole will be a speaker at our next Giggles evening on Monday 27th October at 7.30pm in the Coffee Bar. Shoe Box Appeal Operation Christmas Child at Cadoxton for 2014 formally gets underway at our Creation Celebration on Sunday 28 September. We are hoping that we can send even more boxes away this year. If you would like to take a box to fill, these are available from Sunday and there’s more news about this in the service. If you missed out on the service please speak to Frances who will be delighted to tell you more. In addition Frances and her team would be glad of your continued support for the boxes that we fill centrally. We also need any standard size shoe boxes so please pass these to her as soon as possible. Colleagues of Frances in Bethel House at Hebron Hall have already made a gift of £200 towards the cost of sending the boxes away. A real encouragement and a great start to this year’s Shoe Box appeal. Everyone Working Together Our Autumn meeting was held on Wednesday 17 September and we confirmed a calendar of activities for 2014 -2015. A copy of the minutes is on the notice board and a calendar for the year is included with this month’s Link. www.cadoxto.org.uk Thanks to Michael and Peter the Church website is being updated. It’s always worth a visit to see the changes and to keep up with what’s going on. It also includes downloads of men’s Breakfast and Houseparty talks. Please encourage them with some feedback. Men’s Breakfast Our next Men’s Breakfast will be on Saturday 18 October in the Coffee Bar from 8.30am to 10.00am. If you can, please sign the Breakfast list on the library table in the church. Even if you haven’t been before, do come along; the invitation is open to all men at Cadoxton. Why not invite a non-church friend along too? There is no charge, but there is an opportunity to give towards the cost of the breakfast and other expenses. Although it wasn’t intended to be a fundraising event, through your generosity £208 was raised for the heating fund for the Upper Hall. Thanks to everyone for their support and especially our catering team. Like the Scottish Referendum, your votes have been counted and a new Logo for Cadoxton Methodist Church, as shown above, has been chosen. You’ll start to see this appearing on documents and publications in due course. So you can see how it will look we’ve produced this page of the Link in colour as a special treat. The strap line “serving the community, serving Christ” is constant reminder and challenge to us as to whose we are and what we are about. Annual Message from Energy Bill Despite the lovely Autumn that we have enjoyed, the winter weather is fast approaching. Please help us to manage our energy bills by following the helpful hints below. These will help significantly in controlling our costs and doing our bit for the environment. 1. Radiator thermostats have been set to achieve suitable temperatures for most activities and should not be altered. 2. Please don’t let people stand and chat in an open doorway, the heat will quickly disappear. Parents invariably do this, invite them in instead. 3. If your group is not meeting on the premises, or your times change, please let Jeff know so the clocks can be adjusted. 4. Please don’t use supplementary heating if you personally feel cold. Wear a jumper or even a vest!! 5. If it gets warm turn the heating down – please don’t open the windows - but please return it to its original setting afterwards. 6. Turn off unnecessary lights especially during the time in which you are tidying up when your group has gone home. 7. Check ancillary rooms and toilets to ensure that the lights are off as you leave. 8. Check that kitchen and toilet water heaters are off on leaving. It’s also a great help if you could stack the chairs in piles of three avoiding radiators and heaters at the end of your evening please. Readers List Reading the scriptures in a Sunday Morning service is a privilege and special ministry which contributes enormously to our worship. The list of volunteers willing to read in services needs to be updated. If you are willing to read or are willing to continue as a reader, please sign up on the list in the Coffee Area over the next two or three weeks. Please use a black pen and write clearly so that the list can be photocopied for the benefit of Worship Leaders Discipleship Explored Our new combined fellowship group which has taken over from the previous Tuesday and Wednesday Home Groups has got off to a good start. It meets each fortnight from 7.30pm to 9.00pm on the second and Fourth Wednesdays of the month. We start off with a cuppa and cake, followed by an ‘ice breaker’ activity before reading the Bible and watching the Christianity Explored DVD and sharing in some discussion afterwards. Although we are following a series through Paul’s letter to the Philippians each week stands alone so it’s never too late to start attending. Dates in October are 8th and 22nd. Hall to Hire The Upper Hall is a great venue for activities and children’s parties. If you know a suitable organization looking for a good home or of anyone looking to use it for one off events please contact Jeff or Chris. There are already some regular users but it would be great to see the hall being busy with community and other activities during the week. There are certain restrictions on use and we can always explain these to potential users. Food Bank Update Many thanks for your ongoing support for the Foodbank. The following items would especially be appreciated: Toilet rolls Fruit Juice Squash Rice Coffee Sugar Smash Savoury Rice Shower Gel Shampoo Tins of mixed Vegetables Packets of Pasta n Sauce The November Link will be published on 2 November and any items for this should be with Jeff, in writing, or by Sunday 26 October 2014 please.
