The 19
19th Sunday after Pentecost (Yr A RCL)
19 October 2014
WELCOME VISITORS!
VISITORS
The Church of the Redeemer is delighted to have you with us
today to share in our mission to know, love, worship and obey our Lord
Jesus Christ.
Whether this is your first, second, or third visit, please help us welcome you by wearing a visitor name tag found inside the parish brochure
in the pew racks in front of you. We also invite you to join us for coffee
and Christian fellowship after the services on the veranda (weather permitting) or inside Gillespie Hall. Look for the Welcome Table in Gillespie
Hall. As you exit the front of the church, simply follow the pathway to
your right, past our Rose Garden, and around to the veranda and Gillespie
Hall.
If you would like to receive more information about our services,
ministries, and mission, or to be placed on our mailing list, please fill out
the Visitor Card attached to the visitor name tag, and place it in the offering plate, or hand it to an usher, and be sure to come to the Welcome Table
in Gillespie Hall. We hope you will choose to return to the Church of the
Redeemer and invite you to call on us at any time (955.4263) or visit our
website (www.redeemersarasota.org).
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND INFORMATION
Today . . .
This week we continue our season of ministry celebration and
stewardship. Today the "Annual Giving 2015 Guidebook" is included with your bulletin. Within its pages you can learn how
your investment in the parish is utilized. Continue during this
season to pray about how you might take your place in one of
more than eighty active ministries and how you can invest in the
mission and work of the parish.
Today at the Rector’s class at 10:15 AM, we continue our
series of essential Bible stories. Father Robinson’s “Bible Essential” will be Joseph, “As for you, you meant evil against me;
but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people
should be kept alive, as they are today.” (Genesis 50:20)
All Saints’ baptism preparation classes for adults and parents of
children being baptized on Saturday, 1 November, All Saints’ Day,
at the 10:00 AM mass, continue today, during Christian Education time (10:15-10:40 AM) in the Halton Chapel.
Sign up today on the veranda after 5:30 PM Saturday and the
Sunday morning masses to be a Bell Ringer for the Salvation Army this year. Thank you to Kathy Powers.
Solemn Evensong will be sung tonight at 5:15 PM in the church.
The anthem will be The Spirit of the Lord is Upon Me by Edward
Elgar, and the service is Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in A-Flat by
Basil Harwood.

Need directions to your classroom? Ask an usher, or check the "Sunday
School Map" in the narthex. Teachers and students receive commun
communion
first, and head right to class.
This week . . .
Bridge to the Word, a small group adult Sunday School class,
meets in Room 207 above Gillespie Hall, 10:10 – 10:40 AM. In this
discussion-based class we are focusing on a curriculum called the
“Wired Word,” which takes a current issue and explores how we
as Christians might look at it. Join us for discussion and a relaxing cup of coffee while making new friends. We welcome visitors
and those new to the parish. No preparation necessary!
Inquirers’ classes continue on Tuesdays, through 2 December,
6:30-8:00 PM, in North Gillespie Hall. If you intend to receive the
Sacrament of Confirmation as an adult, or to be received into this
Communion, this course of instruction is required. It is still not
too late to join us! You can sign up on the website, redeemersarasota.org, or by contacting the parish office, 955.4263, or

modern-day hero who demonstrates the same, and talk about
what kind of superhero we can be for God. LOGOS is Redeemer’s
mid-week event for children in grades K-5th, 4-6:30, and includes
Bible study, playtime, proctored study hall, worship through the
arts (choir, art, or Suzuki prep), and family style themed dinner.
Tuition for the year is $100 and limited scholarships are available. For more information, contact Laura Valek, 2014-15 LOGOS
chair, lj.valek@gmail.com
The Bible study of the Book of Genesis continues on Wednesday. There are two sessions: 10:30 AM-12 noon, and 6:30-8 PM,
meeting on Wednesdays through 19 November.
Our fall Women’s Heart to Heart Bible study, Beth Moore’s
“Children of the Day,” meets on Thursdays through 4 December,

The first meeting of the Redeemer Alzheimer’s support group
will be on Thursday, 23 October, at 10:00 AM in North Gillespie
Hall. Co-facilitators are Harriet Stieff and Medora Fry.
Women of the parish, “perk” up your morning, with
Fr. Robinson & Linda, on Saturday, 25 October, from 10:00 AM
until noon. Coffee, conversation, and a light brunch will be held at
their residence, located at 1921 Monte Carlo Drive, Unit 701. The
morning wouldn't be complete without you! Please R.S.V.P. to
Mary Hills, bob-hills@hotmail.com or 343.3806, to reserve your
spot.
Next week . . .
The next meeting of the men’s book group, “Books and Beyond,” will be Tuesday evening, 28 October. We will be discussing
a widely acclaimed book by David Fromkin, A Peace to End All
Peace: The Fall of the Ottoman Empire and the Creation of the Modern Middle East. It “reveals how and why the Allies (after the First
World War) drew lines on an empty map that remade the geography and politics of the Middle East” and put it “on the road that
led to the conflicts and confusion that reign to the present day.”
We will convene at 7:15 PM in the Eva Pope Room, where light
refreshments will be served, and will adjourn at 9:00 PM. All are
warmly welcomed; come and bring a friend. For more information,
contact John Mathis at john.p.mathis@gmail.com.
Future events . . .
It's coming—and better than anything Madame Tussaud ever
created! Redeemer's Annual All Saints' Wax Museum takes place
on Sunday, 2 November, Gillespie Hall, between the 9 and 11 AM
Masses. Our K-3rd grade classes become saints though the ages,
complete with candlelight and Gregorian chant. You won't want to
miss it!
Make your reservations now for the Evensong Dinner on Sunday, 2 November, in Gillespie Hall, in honor of Bishop Michael
Marshall, and the culmination of Redeemer's All Saints' Preaching
Mission, "For ALL the Saints: Celebrating the Past, Present and
Future at Church of the Redeemer." We want everyone to sign up
for this parish family event! Everyone can register by calling the
parish office, or via the website, redeemersarasota.org. Deadline for
all reservations is Wednesday 29 October, at 5:00 PM. You can
pay two ways: For those "early birds" who want to pay early, the
cost is $8.50 per person in advance (via PayPal on our website, or
cash or check to the parish office by the reservation deadline - see
below). Not paying early? Please bring cash or check ($10 per
person, payable to "Church of the Redeemer") to pay at the door.
For your information . . .
Welcome new Sunday School teachers! Thanks the following for
"taking their place" as weekly Sunday School teachers: Meredith
Piazza (2 & 3 yr olds), Melissa and Steve Long (Kindergarten), Lisa
Gialdini (5th grade).
Episcopal Thrift House . . .
Your Episcopal Thrift House is looking for a few good men. We
have thrived for over half a century by evolving with the world,
and these days we find ourselves seeking the generosity of our
male parishioners as a welcome addition to our all-volunteer staff,
and as givers of manly things, as well. As the season comes into
full swing, our business does also, and we could use your help as
little as three hours a week. Men's nice clothing, in particular
dress shirts, work clothes and shoes, as well as golfing goods and
fishing gear fly off the shelves. Please contact Pat Tate, volunteer
coordinator, at 941.387.6016 for information about joining our
dynamic ministry, or bring us your donations weekdays between
10-4 or Saturdays from 10-1 on the corner of Second and Lemon
in beautiful downtown Sarasota
