He is widely known for his expertise in high-value financial remedy, ToLATA and Schedule 1 cases, including those with a foreign element, many of which are dealt with by way of negotiated settlements. His experience in personal injury work also translates to cases involving catastrophic injury to one partner where financial complexities in subsequent divorce proceedings surround the damages awarded. He regularly appears in the appellate courts. He sits as a Recorder and Deputy High Court Judge. Nick Miller, Call 1994 St John’s Chambers Nick has specialised exclusively in ancillary relief for over 20 years. Prior to joining the Bar in 1994, Nick was a Solicitor and a partner in a Bristol firm. He was a founder member of the SFLA (now Resolution) and secretary of the Bristol SFLA for ten years . Nick is described by Chambers UK as having a great deal of experience in complex matrimonial finance matters. “He is extremely reassuring with clients but absolutely formidable in cross-examination.” Zoe Saunders, Call 2003 St John’s Chambers Zoë has a particular interest in ToLATA disputes and is often asked to advise both in writing and in conference as well as acting in disputed cases in the High Court, County Court and before the land registry adjudicator. Zoë has particular expertise in cases involving ToLATA and applications under Schedule 1 of the Children Act 1989. Zoë also has experience of contested probate and inheritance issues in which her experience in applications for financial remedies on divorce is often extremely valuable. Zoë has expertise in cases involving multiple properties, trusts, complex pensions and insolvency as well as both big and small money cases and the particular challenges presented by each. Zoë has also been asked to advise in relation to professional negligence issues arising from financial remedy proceedings. Andrew Commins, Call 2004 St John’s Chambers Andrew specialises in all matters of family finance including financial remedies on divorce or the dissolution of civil partnerships, cohabitation disputes, Schedule 1 applications and related professional negligence claims. Andrew is also a qualified mediator (Family Mediators Association). Andrew has experience of cases involving farming partnerships, trusts, bankruptcy, companies, nuptial agreements, inherited wealth, allegations of conduct and disabilities. “Andrew is admired for his polished advocacy skills, technical ability and brilliant attention to detail.” Chambers UK, Family (2014) David Birkett BSc DipFA, Partner, Crystal Wealth Management LLP David has worked in Financial Services for over 26 years. Prior to becoming independent in 1998 he worked in direct sales for a variety of life offices. David co-founded Crystal Wealth Management in 2003, the firm is based in Portland Square, Bristol and also has an office in Yate. They have personal and corporate clients throughout the region and internationally. David works closely with his clients, both private and business directly, and in conjunction with accountants & solicitors, developing solutions for their needs in protection, retirement and investment planning. A long term relationship builds which is reviewed on a regular basis to take account of the inevitable changes in legislation and client circumstances. Particular areas of expertise include pensions, investments, income generation and ‘at retirement’ planning.
