Power Hunters 2014 Team Biographies TEAM HOSTS CAPTAIN Chris & Jami Myers • Rick & Kim Nelson • Ian & Krista Taylor ~ Party Site: Matt Thomas’ Shop Captained by Kevin Gillespie: Kevin has worked his way up through the Power Industry, working for Southern California Edison for 22 years and going to school. He took an early retirement with So Cal Ed in 2001, settled in Las Vegas, where he began his career with Sempra as the Plant Manager of Ed Dorado Energy. Currently, Kevin is the Director of Operations for Sempra US Gas and Power- Renewables. Kevin is responsible for all aspects of the operations of our renewable plants; as it stands right now, Sempra US Gas and Power operates three Solar Plants and five Wind Plants. Kevin Gillespie grew up in a small town in Arizona. He was active in all sports and excelled in wrestling. While growing up Kevin enjoyed the outdoors, such as camping, fishing, hunting, horseback riding and water sports. Nowadays, Kevin enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also takes part in golfing, boating, hiking, and off-roading. Kevin is also an avid quilter in his spare time. TEAM MEMBERS ~ Jamie Gray: Jamie was born and raised in Houston, TX. He grew up hunting and fishing throughout Texas with his father and grandfather. He served 5 years in the US Navy and later graduated from the University of Texas. Jamie has held various engineering and project management roles throughout the power industry, focusing in the last few years on the renewable sector. Jamie is married with three children with the last one being born this past August. He still hunts and fishes as often as possible and volunteers as a Hunt with Heart, a non-profit dedicated to providing outdoor adventures to kids battling severe illnesses. ~ Scott Furgerson: Scott Furgerson is the VP of Construction and Operations for Sempra US Gas and Power-Renewables. Scott oversees Engineering, Construction, Operations and Asset Management in the Renewable Energy Group. Scott has over 33 years experience in the power generation business. He began his career with San Diego Gas and Electric Team biographies continued... Power Hunters as a Generation Engineer in the power plant. During the course of his 33 years with the utility he has held several crucial management positions including Director of Electric and Regional Operations. While with SDG & E, Scott’s various management positions have been in functional areas of Electric Generation, Gas Transmission and Distribution, Environmental Services, as well as Electric Distribution. Scott has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo and is a registered professional engineer in the State of California. In his spare time, Scott enjoys simple things like walking his two large dogs, yard beautification, spending time with his wife and taking his bicycle out on long rides. Scott tries to get up to Tahoe whenever he can to ski and spend relaxing time with his wife and family in their cabin. He played football for the U.S. Naval Academy, enjoys watching baseball and his kids play competitive sports. ~ Tim Allen: Timothy Allen is Director of Engineering and Construction for Sempra US Gas and Power. Mr. Allen’s responsibilities in this position are to lead all project related activities during the engineering and construction phase of projects. This includes managing the engineers and project managers. Prior to this role with Sempra US Gas and Power, Mr. Allen worked as Director of Project Development and was responsible for developing several of the solar projects that make up a large portion of Sempra for San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) in various engineering and supervisory roles and departments including: substation constructions and operations, transmission planning and distribution operation. Mr. Allen began his professional career with SDG&E in 2000. Mr. Allen holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic University, Sal Luis Obispo, CA and is a registered Electrical Engineer in the State of California. He has three kids and enjoys many sports and outdoor activities, including surfing, sailing and diving. Mr. Allen recently took an interest in dove hunting with friends and looks forward to hunting with his son when he gets older. He owns a Mossberg 500 shotgun and has completed the California Department of Fish and Game Hunter Education Program.
