Leeza’s Care Connection is a community gathering place where family caregivers come together and develop a
new set of skills that help them become stronger, more resilient and grounded with their new life of change and
the demands of caregiving. LCC is a program of the Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation in partnership with
Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center (PSJMC). All programs are FREE OF CHARGE & held on site
unless otherwise noted. PARKING VALIDATION is not covered.

EDUCATION
“Emergency Preparedness-Medical Considerations for Seniors with Chronic Illnesses”
Thursday, October 9; 11 am-12 pm
Join Helen Davis, a FEMA-certified Special Needs Disaster Response Specialist, to discuss
preparing for an emergency, as it relates to the medical needs of vulnerable adults, if they are required to leave
their homes because of an earthquake, utilities outage or other emergency. Follow her Top Ten Tips to ensure
that you and your loved one are prepared to evacuate your home, if necessary. Helen will share tips she
developed, having experienced Hurricane Katrina first-hand as an emergency responder.
Lunch N’ Learn: “The 5 Most Dangerous Symptoms”
Wednesday, October 15; 12:30 pm-2 pm
Join us for a presentation by Dr. Craig Ross, D.C. from Wellness 22, Chiropractic and Brain
Balance, as he talks about easy and understandable ways to improve your health. In a fun and informative
way, you will learn simple ways to have your body function at its highest level, avoiding the 5 most dangerous
symptoms . After the talk, Dr. Ross will be available to answer questions. Please RSVP as lunch will be
provided.
Lunch N’ Learn: “Managing Incontinence”
Wednesday, October 22; 12:30 pm-2 pm
Join Lore Bertuch from Shield HealthCare, as she explains the causes and types of incontinence,
preventative measures, and tips on how to best manage incontinence in a loved one. Discussion will also
include insurance coverage of supplies and lowest cost solution.
“Halloween Celebration” at The Nest Residential Board and Care in Encino!
Thursday, October 30; 11am-1pm at 4100 Hayvenhurst Ave. Encino, CA 91436
Join us for a Halloween Celebration at “The Nest Residential Board” and Care in Encino! All are invited for a
fun afternoon including with lunch, music, fun activities, and a tour of the facility! Please note that

Young Adult Support Group- (at LCC Burbank)

This support group was created for family caregivers in their 20’s and 30’s. The group is be facilitated by
Gabriella Ruiz, Regional Director – Great San Fernando Valley, Alzheimer’s Association. The
group will permanently meet at Leeza’s Care Connection at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Leeza’s Care Connection offers a support group for caregivers caring for someone with memory loss. “R” is for
groups where we offer respite activities for your loved one during the caregiver support group. These are led by
volunteers. Support Group Facilitators: Noma Kaz, Co-Founder of Lifeline Companion Services
Leta Nadler and Manij Taban, Human Services Paraprofessionals trained at the Wagner Program at
American Jewish University. Anatt Orr Frankel, RN is a Geriatric Care Manager and Liz Stratton has
years of experience in the eldercare field.
Caregiver Bereavement Support Group
Tuesday, October 7, 21; 2-3:30 pm
Are you in need of a little support and direction? This on-going group is to assist caregivers through the
bereavement process. Support group is led by Susan Moriarty, M. Div and Chaplain for VITAS
Hospice.
Early Memory Loss Support Group
Thursday, October 9, 23; 10:30 am-12 pm
*Please call Leeza’s Care Connection before attending the Early Memory Support Group. This is
a support group for those that are recently diagnosed with any memory impairment (i.e. mild cognitive
impairments, dementia, Alzheimer’s, traumatic brain injury, stroke, etc…) Acknowledgement of having a
memory loss can bring up many feelings and is a time where many changes occur. We want to provide a space
where individuals can speak freely about what is going on in their lives. Joy Fruth, MSW and Ann
Brunner, MSW facilitate the group and both have years of experience working with seniors and their
families.
Early Onset Support Group
Tuesday, October 28; 6:30 pm- 8 pm

We recognize caregiving is not just for those in their “golden years.” This support group is for caregivers taking
care of a family member or friend with dementia between the ages of 40 to 65. John Geirland, Ph.D. is the
support group facilitator and has years of experience working with seniors and their families.
Preserving memories through Autobiographical Scrapbooking
Friday, October 3, 10, 17, 24 (no scrapbooking on the 31st); 11 am-1 pm
Leeza’s Care Connection is pleased to offer an on-going Scrapbooking Workshop for the caregiver and their
recently diagnosed loved one. Jeri Vargas and Beverly Creighton, our scrapbooking divas, will assist
participants in how to use materials in an artistic way providing an enjoyable opportunity for families to relive
cherished memories.
“Coffee Meet & Greet with Helen!”

New Program – “Journaling the Journey”
Sunday, October 19, and then on Saturdays, November 1 and 15, December 6 and 20;
10:30am-12pm
Join us for this new program! “Journaling the Journey” is a journal writing group for caregivers at all stages,
including those who are no longer caregiving. We will use writing as a tool for self-care, self-discovery,
transition, wellness, and healing! This journaling group will meet for 5 sessions, but you do not need to attend
all sessions to participate. This group is facilitated by Alex Shinn, psychotherapist and former family
caregiver. Please RSVP if you would like to participate as space is limited.
ENERGY
New Program – “Moves & Grooves!”
Mondays, October 6 & 20; 11am-12pm
Do you enjoy music? Do you like to dance and exercise? Are you looking for an activity to get your energy and
spirits up? Well then this new program is for YOU! Join us for this twice a month program that will get you
movin’ and groovin’ as we stretch, breathe, and dance to the Zumba Gold DVD. The session will be led by Alex
Cole, former caregiver and Zumba Gold fanatic. All ability levels are welcome. No experience
necessary. Please wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes. Please RSVP if you would like to participate as

New Program – “Music Mondays with Bernadette”
Mondays, October 13 & 27; 2pm-3pm
Join us for singing fun and reminiscing with music! All are invited to participate in this twice a month program
facilitated by Bernadette Haderlein, a music therapist by training and is an older adult instructor
with the LAUSD for over 20 years. Please RSVP if you would like to participate as space is limited!
New Program – “Body & Brain Wellness for the Caregiver”
Tuesday, October 14; 10:30am-11:30am
Calling ALL Family Caregivers! Join us for a new program that features the "Experience of Holistic Wellness."
This is a complete system of integrating the mind, body, and energy through a dynamic five-step Brain
Education System Training. This program consists of deep stretching, unique regimens of breathing, energy
building exercises, and meditation to create optimal energetic balance in your body. The session will be led by
Fatima Bustos-Choy, PhD, owner and headmaster of Body & Brain Holistic Wellness
Center. Please wear comfortable clothes, socks, and bring a blanket or yoga mat if you prefer. Please RSVP if
you would like to participate as space is limited.
Crafter’s Circle!
Monday, October 20; 1pm-2:30pm
Bring your knitting, crocheting, sewing, and other craft projects and join an afternoon of freestyle crafting with
knitting divas Beverly Creighton and Henia Burgess. All ability levels welcome. Please RSVP if you will
be attending.
Table Massage Tuesdays!
Tuesdays, October 21 & 28; 2pm-6pm (Last Appointment is at 5:30pm)
Are you a caregiver who is feeling tired and stressed? Great news! We are offering free massages on 2 days this
month! Katie Karras, certified massage therapist, reiki healer, watsu therapist, and yoga
instructor will be providing 25 minute massages for family caregivers! Call us to book your appointment. You
deserve it! Space is limited – appointment is needed.
Guided Meditation is back!
Thursday, October 23; 11 am-12 pm
This once a month program will include discussions and exercises to reduce stress and promote self-care.
Shirin Dehghan, Certified Hypnotherapist, will lead us in sessions and will feature 15-20 minutes of
visualization using imagery to promote relaxation and positive feelings of well-being.
