· Quantitative engineering sustainability: development of mechanics-based models
(e.g., pavement vehicle interaction models) to identify the key contributing factors
to vehicle fuel consumption and evaluate their environmental footprint for life cycle
assessment of pavement systems.

· Analysis of Primary-Secondary (PS) systems: theoretical and numerical analysis of
variability in floor response spectra (FRS) to investigate the reliability of FRS for
designing non-structural components and sensitive equipment.
· Theoretical analysis of dynamic characteristics of laminated composite cylindrical
shells with emphasis on the edge effect.
Graduate Research Assistant (2004 – 2010)
· Study of high-cycle fatigue of passenger cars in high-speed trains: fatigue reliability analysis based on random vibrations and modal techniques via high-fidelity
computational models and measurements data as well as proposing straightforward
dynamic proof testing procedures for full-scale passenger car bodies.
· Study of structural damage in satellites and their sensitive instruments due to extreme loads such as deployment-induced shock.
· Developing Bayesian classifiers for performance-based design of material microstructures: proposing a multi-scale predictive tool for rapid assessment of composite
material performance; integration of machine learning methods with a uniquely
designed moving window technique to bridge the micro-scale to macro-scale.
