A
fter 20 years and three state titles, George Najjar has
been suspended as the head coach of the Sayreville
War Memorial High School football team.
Najjar’s suspension, along with that of four other members of his
staff, was upheld by unanimous vote at a contentious meeting of the
Sayreville Board of Education Tuesday night.
Board president Kevin Ciak stressed that the suspensions of Najjar
and the four other tenured district employees who also are on the
football coaching staff are “consistent with an ongoing and not yet
completed investigation.”
The suspensions, which began Thursday, are with pay. They also
are indefinite, Ciak said.
The suspensions came after seven Sayreville players, ages 15 to
17, were charged on Oct. 10 in connection with the hazing and
aggravated sexual assault of four teammates.
The alleged assaults took place in the locker room over a
10-day period from Sept. 19 to Sept. 29.
According to an addendum to the school board’s meeting
agenda, the suspended coaches include Najjar, Edward
Mish, Michael Novak, Mark Poore and Timothy Ballard.
The board also moved to reduce the coaching stipends
of Najjar, Novak and Mish.
Najjar, who was contracted to earn $11,700 for his coaching
duties during the 2014-15 calendar year, will now make

notorious Genovese crime family
with running several illegal
financial schemes, including
