Dear Second Grade Families,
We have exciting news! Our Read to My Child Day initiative is off to an amazing start.
Thank you to all the families that joined us for the informational session and on the field
trip to the Astoria Library. These parental involvement activities are an important
component of the success of our “Read to My child” initiative. We will continue to offer
enriching activities for families at PS 17 and at various cultural and scholarly institutions
within the community. The goal of this initiative is to strengthen student achievement.
Agenda:
On Friday, October 31st you will engage in reading with your child, experience how
reading looks in a classroom and receive different strategies to support your child’s
reading at home and at school.
Future Dates:

11/21- Friday, November 21st at 9:00 am – 9:30 am
12/19 – Friday December 21st at 9:00 am – 9:30 am
There is a follow up parent meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 18th
at 2:30 pm- 3:00 pm (immediately following dismissal). At this meeting you will
have and opportunity to speak with your child’s teacher regarding strategies
you can use at home.
