The President foreward
It is with pleasure that I invite all ICOSPA members to attend the 18th International Congress
of the Sheet Metal Presswork Industry in France later this year. The event is being held from
the 26th to the 30th of October, in Strasbourg.
France holds the ICOSPA presidency for three years, and it was decided that the capital of
the Alsace region would be an ideal location. Strasbourg was chosen for many reasons. Most
importantly for ICOSPA, it is a major hub for engineering and manufacturing and at the centre
of a powerful industrial region. Strasbourg is also, as you may know, an attractive and historic
city, and of course it is at the heart of the European political scene, as the seat of both the
Council of Europe and the European Parliament. The many attractions of Alsace make it a
major tourist destination, and I am certain that all who come to the Congress will relax, and
enjoy both the friendly atmosphere and the cultural scene.
However, the main reason for you to come is the ICOSPA event itself, which has been
arranged so that debates and presentations are held each morning, with visits to industrial
locations in the afternoon. I hope you feel that this Congress will be of benefit to you,
within the context of your strategic analysis. Everyone in business knows that the economic
environment in which we operate is in a state of perpetual evolution, and it is often to find the
transparency we desire. We all realise that we have to become more competitive, but then
how do we decide which opportunities to seize from all those which globalisation offers, and
how do we develop in mature markets?
At the same time, the advances in networking techniques and social media, and the technical
and technological innovations within our industry, mean we are constantly evolving and
rationalising about how we work within a global framework.
These thoughts made us choose the theme of “Innovation” for October’s Congress.
The debates and presentations will focus on how companies can compete in the global
economy, through introducing innovations to all aspects of their operations; management,
technology, commercial and organisational.
The event also offers great opportunities for you to learn about the latest advances in our
industry, and to discuss your views and network with your peers from around the world.
For those who register before June 1st, there is also a special discounted rate.
A warm welcome awaits you all in Strasbourg.
Best wishes,
Eric MOLEUX
FIM Métaux en Feuilles President and ICOSPA President

Monday 27 October:
visit of Strasbourg
Morning
Strasbourg the magnificent!
With its monumental cathedral featuring carvings as delicate as any piece of lacework,
Strasbourg is one of Europe’s most attractive cities. Thanks to the richness and sheer density
of its heritage sites, the entire town centre has been listed as UNESCO World Heritage.
Strasbourg is definitely well worth a visit, to discover its history, its cuisine and its unique
atmosphere.
The “Petite France” quarter
This is the most picturesque district of old Strasbourg. Fishermen, millers and tanners
once lived and worked in this part of town where the streets have been built level with the
waterways. The magnificent half-timbered houses date from the 16th and 17th centuries.
Afternoon
The Palais Rohan
A former residence of the prince-bishops, the Rohan Palace was built between
1732 and 1742.
The Alsatian museum
It presents a fascinating snapshot of traditional Alsatian life including painted furniture,
costumes, local ceramics, toys, and religious or nonreligious images. A number of rooms
feature reconstructions of the interiors of buildings typical of the various regions of Alsace or
craftsmen’s workshops.
Tuesday 28 October:
Alsace vineyard
Morning
The Haut-Koenigsbourg castle
This medieval fortress dominates the plain of Alsace
in 757 meters in height. Since its construction in the
12th century, the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle has been a constant
witness to both European conflicts and rivalry between lords,
kings and emperors.
Afternoon
The Alsace Wine Route
This delightful itinerary leads visitors across rows of undulating, vine-covered hills, and
through quaint villages with narrow streets and charming flower-decked houses clustered
around the local church steeple.
Visit of the city of Barr: historic wine-making capital of Alsace, and visit of a cellar.
“Musée du pain d’épices”
The Mannele takes you on a voyage of discovery through the world of spice bread. Visitors will
find themselves in a variety of animated areas, where they will be able to find out more about
the origins of spice bread, the secrets of how it is made, but also be immersed in a gourmet
world where the 5 senses are aroused.
Wednesday 29 October:
Morning
Visit of the glass-making Lalique Museum
Located on the site of a former glassworks, this museum has many items on display, such as
jewellery, designs, perfume bottles, tableware items, chandeliers, radiator caps, and vases.
The visitor will travel back to the World Fair of 1900 to see René Lalique’s stand, and to the
Exposition of Industrial and Decorative Arts of 1925.
