Stories and puppets need not be complex to engage an audience.
Sometimes the simplest silhouette can communicate to us
feelings of great joy or sadness. Shadow puppetry can allow
us to speak to others regardless
of voice or language. Through
the use of gestures made with
the puppets and by focusing on
the essential actions needed to
convey feeling and meaning,
one can tell countless engaging
tales.

teacher currently working on her 500 hr certification. She
has taught extensively in Mahone Bay and Halifax and is

empowerment to her neighbours in Bridgewater. She is an avid

POWER YOGA - LEVEL 1 & 2
Hatha Vinyasa Yoga is a style of yoga used to generate
heat in the body through synchronizing the breath with a
progressive series of postures and movement to purify and
strengthen the body with a focus on strengthening our centre
or core. It is energizing, giving you a sense of confidence and
well-being. It is great for developing strength and discipline
and is a style enjoyed by both men and women. It is great for
the immune system, circulation, cardiovascular system and
overall health. Suitable for those who have completed Yoga
for Beginners or someone who is physically fit and would
like to start yoga.

HEATED YINYASA
Yinyasa is a wonderful combination of two wonderful
complimentary styles of yoga, Yin and Vinyasa, balancing
ease with effort. Yin yoga is the practice of bringing focused
attention to the connective tissues, the joints, tendons and
ligaments. It is particularly great for athletes, as well as for
those of us who sit for long periods of time. Vinyasa links
the breath with posture and the postures together with
flow, creating heat in the body. Yinyasa, which is practiced
in a heated room, is the placement of Yin postures within
the Vinyasa practise, creating a wonderful practice that
strengthens and opens the body and mind.

AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT
In Awareness through Movement classes, slow and
gentle actions reveal the parts of you that move easily
and those that don’t. Each class explores a different
movement sequence. You are guided to discover your
habits, good and bad. By learning what you do as
you move, you can improve your ability and comfort.
Students taking classes report better posture, balance
and stability, fuller breathing, muscle relaxation and
increased joint flexibility. The Feldenkrais method
enables effortless, comfortable movement for all the
functions of everyday life. It is a practical way to
maintain or regain the pleasure of work out routines,
office and household tasks or sports activities. It is a
non-invasive, step-by-step class that can be enjoyed by
all ages and abilities.
Instructor Lisa Woolnough studied to become a
Feldenkrais Practitioner in Montreal. She completed the
four-year professional training progrm in 1996 and has
been practicing full time since then. A practitioner must
complete Advanced Training every two years to maintain
certification as a member of the North American
Feldenkrais Guild. Lisa discovered the Feldenkrais Method
while searching for a way to ease the chronic pain suffered
by her mother after a back injury. Subsequently, Lisa
became vision impaired and the kinaesthetic awareness
gained from her Feldenkrais work has enabled her to keep
on skiing, kayaking and dog walking.

not exercised lately and adults who understand that if you

improves quality of life. A gentle warm-up will be followed

4 EXCIT ING PROJECT S
T O DIG INT O!
The Bridgewater Community Gardens Network
is calling for new volunteers to help with the following!
INCREDIBLE EDIBLE BRIDGEWATER
EDIBLE TREES BRIDGEWATER
BEE’S NEEDS POLLINATOR GARDEN
HODGE PODGE COMMUNITY GARDEN
As BCGN’s only project that takes place off of town land,
Incredible Edible helps businesses and organizations
within the town of Bridgewater grow edible gardens in
the public eye. In its 4th year, we are engaging with existing participants, defining the project’s long term goals,
and re-branding to increase visibility and publicity.
Perhaps you’ve noticed that we’ve expanded the existing
pollinator garden at Aberdeen Green! We used a technique called sheet mulching to define the new area, and
planted it with squash donated by Wile’s Lake Farm Market for this year. We’re planning to have the area mulched
with bark mulch this fall to be ready for planting in the
spring! Volunteers in this project get to help research pollinator plants, make a landscape plan, and source seeds
and plants- and of course planting and helping it grow!
Almonds, pawpaws, peaches, pecans, and more! Did you
know that there are 5 town park locations with edible
trees planted by BCGN? Join the volunteer group that
takes care of the existing trees, provides visioning for the
future of the project, and helps plant more edible landscaping into Bridgewater’s parks.
As Bridgewater’s only community garden, Hodge Podge
serves to educate the public about community gardens as
well as be a place for members of our community to garden and grow food together! With new plot signs and a
waiting list for 2017 already started, we’ll be looking this
fall and winter at how to keep Hodge Podge Community
Garden growing and thriving. Let us know if you’re interested in being a gardener or a member of the planning
team or a helping hand at work parties.

RAKE IT FORWARD THIS FALL
“Adopt” a senior neighbour and
help with their fall cleanup.
Raking leaves and picking up fallen
branches can cause undue stress on seniors.
The strain caused by constant bending,
crouching and heavy lifting can put them
at serious risk of falls, broken bones, heart
attacks and stroke.
Bridgewater | www.bridgewater.ca | 543-2274
STACK IT FORWARD THIS FALL
“Adopt” a senior neighbour and
help with their fall cleanup.
Firewood is heavy and unstable, and seeing
it not taken care of can cause stress and
anxiety for seniors as they think about cold
weather. Stacking and storing it themselves
puts them at serious risk of falls, broken
bones, heart attacks and stroke.
Is your senior or disabled
neighbour’s property looking
a little messy?
Or have they just recently
received a load of firewood?
A neighbour may need your help and your
act of kindness could save a life. Volunteer
to stack and store firewood as an individual,
family, business, or school. Knock on your
neighbour’s door and spread care and
compassion in your community.
