You see knights, damsels in distress and especially, swords. As you go through this power point every opinion you have about swords will change. When were swords made? How did they work? Have you ever wondered these questions? Well, time to find out in THE HISTORY OF SWORDS. Swords were weapons made for combat but soon became part of culture for many regions. In the swords time (Bronze age -Medieval ages) they were important for combat, culture and entertainment. Swords evolved to get better and easier. Swords change from a variety of metals, materials and design through out the years. Even though years have passed swords are still used in culture, entertainment and are seen in museums through out the world. In the late 3rd millennium BC, swords evolved from daggers when longer blades were available. Some people considered these daggers with longer blades not the real ancestors of swords. These swords were made with bronze material and with problems. The tensile strength contained within the blade could easily be worn out within use and the longer the blade the sooner it would bend. Soon, using iron became ordinary starting from the 13th century BC because bronze was not being produced as much as before. Iron had the asset of more production thanks to the broad availability of the basic material. Although they could still bend in use its advantage of faster production made it easier to equip armies with iron. MIDDLE AGES LATE MIDDLE AGES AND RENAISSANCE In the Middle ages swords were improved and were commonly used by males to attack and defend during combat. During the 16th and 17th centuries Damascus steel became the more preferred choice when choosing the metal for sword making. Around 1300 to 1500 sword designs changed more and more rapidly. As the reign of swords continued to end the use of the weapon decreased regularly, and soon its use was stopped in weeks. We then switched to armed mechanisms and guns. I think swords will still be on display but considered very precious because they were made a very long time age. My dad’s idea is that swords will be brought back as light sabers from Star Wars. I disagree with him because swords have already had their time. I think that, instead, a new weapon will be created or guns will be improved. Medieval- the Middle ages.
