By attending the auction, you waive any claims for liability against the Federal Communications Bar Association, the FCBA Foundation, the Charity Auction Committee and Subcommittees, the auction beneficiaries, or the donor of any prize, property, or service. Everything is sold “as is.” Please be aware that prizes may be subject to restrictions or limitations such as an expiration date, blackout periods, or limits on the number of participants. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, ALL PRIZES ARE NULL AND VOID AS OF NOVEMBER 6, 2015. Please read all of the specifications and limitations carefully. If you have any questions, please call the FCBA at (202) 293-4000. TAX I N F O R M AT I O N Your charitable deduction for the purchase of items at the 25th Annual Charity Auction is limited to the amount, if any, by which your payment exceeds the donor’s value of that item. You will be provided with a good faith estimate of the value of the goods and/or services you have purchased when you pick up your prize. This notice also serves as the required written disclosure statement to each donor who makes a “quid pro quo” contribution in excess of $75.00. A “quid pro quo” contribution is a payment made partly as a contribution and partly for goods and services provided to the donor by the charity. For more information, please call the FCBA at (202) 293-4000. P R I Z E C LA I M A N D PAY M E N T P R O C E D U R E S Express Checkout with Auctionpay As part of our efforts to enhance the 25th Annual Charity Auction, we will be using Auctionpay terminals to make the bidding and checkout process faster and easier. The Auctionpay system allows you, at check-in, to securely pre-register a credit card that is linked to your registered bidder number. During the auction, use your bidder number for all silent and live auction bidding. Because your credit card is linked to your bidder number, your credit card will be charged for your winning bids after the event is over (you will not be charged if you do not make any auction-related purchases). 4 Express Checkout with Auctionpay allows you to skip the cashier’s line when you are ready to leave. Instead, you can go to the prize claim area, verify your auction purchases, and pick up the auction items that you won! Once you have claimed your prize, please make sure that you have received each item included in the prize package. If you are the winning bidder on a live or silent auction item and you have not preregistered your credit card using Auctionpay, you will need to go to the cashier, provide your bidder number, and submit your payment. Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or American Express). Checks should be made payable to the “FCBA Foundation.” After payment has been received at the cashier, you may retrieve your prizes from the prize claim area. Again, once you have claimed your prize, please make sure that you have received each item included in the prize package. Winners of all live auction prizes will be announced during the live auction. To determine whether you have won a silent auction prize, you may visit the silent auction table after it closes to see if you were the winning bidder. The winning bidder number will be circled on the bid sheet associated with each prize after bidding has ended. ONLINE AUCTION The FCBA Charity Auction Committee will run the Online Auction from October 30 through November 13, 2014. On the Online Auction site, you can bid on any of the auction items listed in the Online Auction section of this Prize Book (see page 58). The Online Auction is a vehicle to enhance the participation of FCBA members in the Charity Auction, in particular members of FCBA Chapters outside of Washington, DC. Likewise, supporters of BUILD Metro DC and the FCBA Foundation who regrettably were not able to attend tonight’s event will nonetheless be afforded the opportunity to bid on great prizes and/or submit donations directly through the “Donate Cash” feature on the site. To participate in the online auction, visit www.biddingforgood.com/fcbafoundation. 5 TONIGHT’S BENEFICIARIES CHARITY AUCTION HISTORY PROCEEDS FROM THIS YEAR’S CHARITY AUCTION WILL BENEFIT BUILD METRO DC A N D T H E F C B A F O U N D AT I O N . his year, the FCBA Charity Auction celebrates its 25th year! We are glad that you joined us for this worthwhile event to raise money for BUILD Metro DC and the FCBA Foundation. The first auction, which was then called the “Charity Holiday Happy Hour,” was held in 1990 at Rhapsody on 20th Street in Dupont Circle. The auction raised approximately $5,000 through a live auction, raffle, and the sale of drinks. Over the past 25 years, the FCBA Charity Auction has raised more than $1.5 million for the DC-based organizations listed below. B UILD Metro DC offers a four-year program that targets high school students in low-income communities who are not on-track academically and are at the highest risk of dropping out of school. Through entrepreneurship-based, experiential learning, BUILD equips these youth for high school, college, and career success. From their freshman through senior year of high school, BUILD guides participating students through every step of starting and running a licensed business, including writing a business plan, working in teams, pitching investors, budgeting, manufacturing, and selling products. “BUILDers” also receive extensive academic training, including classroom tutoring, free SAT and ACT prep courses, college application guidance, and financial aid support. BUILD’s efforts have had a demonstrable impact on the lives of these students, with 100 percent of BUILD Metro DC seniors having graduated high school and enrolled in a college or university. The FCBA Foundation will use proceeds from the Charity Auction to support its annual college scholarship program. More information about the work of the FCBA Foundation is on page 10. There are several representatives from BUILD Metro DC and the FCBA Foundation here tonight. Please feel free to speak with them about the organizations and their missions. B.J. has also competed and placed in the finals of the International Auctioneer’s Championship competition, including finishes as both First and Second Runner-Up. After starting her company in 2001, B.J. quickly established one of the company’s specialties and “passions” as conducting and consulting for Benefit and Fund Raising Auction Events. B.J. now works with dozens of organizations annually to assist them in raising millions of dollars by captivating audiences with a style that has been described as both “entertaining and energetic.” 1st Class Benefits was formed in 2007 as a division of Jennings Auction Group to exclusively handle the 40+ annual benefit auction events conducted by the company. B.J. holds both the prestigious Certified Auctioneers Institute (CAI) designation and the Benefit Auctioneer Specialist (BAS) designation. Because of her expertise in the field, B.J. was invited by the National Auctioneers Association Education Institute to assist with the course development of the new BAS designation program which was introduced in 2007. In addition to benefit auctions, the company also conducts real estate, estate and commercial auctions. B.J. is active in both the National and Pennsylvania Auctioneers Associations and other professional organizations within her community. As a way to help new auctioneers be successful, B.J. is also an instructor at an auction school; teaching classes in bid calling techniques, benefit auctions, and auction technology. 60 61 CREDITS ■ Photographer Mark Van Bergh (www.markvanbergh.com) ■ Mosaic Express for donating a portion of the Prize Book printing ■ Moon Design for the Prize Book layout AND ■ Thank you to all of our generous donors for making this event possible. ■ Thank you to all of the dedicated prize gatherers, raffle ticket sellers, and volunteers. *As of October 30, 2014 Jonathan Aperez Michael Beder Laura Berman Chris Bjornson Van Bloys Ann Bobeck Claire Bourque Denise Branson Robert Branson Samantha Brennan Charity Brown Daniel Bumpus Jonathan Cannon Megan Capasso Patricia Cave Arturo Chang Elizabeth Chernow Lizbeth Chow Kimberly Chow Christopher Clark Peter Connolly Christopher Cook Roger Corral Elizabeth Cuttner Seth Davidson Emilie DeLozier Delara Derakhshani Nima Desai Tiffany Din Tse Tim Doughty James Duchesne Nathan Eagan Andrew Erber Stefanie Frank Matthew Friedman Aryane Garansi John Gasparini Cindy Geirhart Yosef Getachew Tony Glosson Camille Gray Erin Griffith Gabby Gross Lyndsey Grunewald Patrick Halley DeVan Hankerson Danielle Hinton Jennifer Holtz Kathleen Hom Russel Hsaio 62 Max Hsu Truongson Huynh Brian Indovina Rebecca Jacobs Daniel Joslyn Sara Kamal Christine Kennedy Colleen King Christopher Koves Heidi Lankau Anisa Latif William Layton Laura Layton Sarah Leggin Georgios Leris Ilona Lindsay Madeline Lottenbach Sara Luxenberg Adrian Ma Jonathan Markman Rafi Martina Debra McGuire-Mercer Christopher Mills Lynne Milne Stephanie Minnock Brittany Moore Samantha Morelli Jackie Morley Ryan Morrison Anna Myers Max Nacherman Chris Naoum Alison Nemeth Kara Novak Eric Null Molly O’Connor Nick Oros Sade Oshinubi Thomas Parisi Jonathan Perez Danielle Pineres David Porter John Prendergast Leah Rabkin Tajma Rahimic Alexander Ratner Daniel Robinson Samantha Rocci Shannon Rohn Amy Roller Kara Romagino Adam Sandler Cara Schenkel Eric Schmidt Kat Scott Yi Shen Chris Shipley Meredith Singer Ross Slutsky Brenna Sparks 63 Karen Sprung Tom Struble Jamie Susskind Raphael Sznajder Joel Thayer Preston Thomas Danielle Thumann Brenda Villanueva Jamel Vinson John Visclosky Caitlin Vogus Stephen Wang Paul Waters Henry Wendel Seth Williams Bonnie Wise Nicole Zimbelman NOTES NOTES 64 65 **THIS IS YOUR REGISTERED BIDDER NUMBER.
