FRESHMAN SUGGESTED SERVICE AGENCIES
Below is a list of suggested agencies where freshmen may complete their required service hours. This list
is not 100% complete, nor is it guaranteed to be completely up-to-date. This list should only service as an
aid for freshmen looking for agencies to volunteer with. By suggesting these agencies, we in no way
guarantee any results. It is solely up to the student to investigate possibilities and ask questions. Student is
responsible to make sure they get involved with a project that puts them in direct contact with children.
AFTER SCHOOL ATHLETICS
Flag Football Coaches and Referees for the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade teams. One Game and One
Practice per week mid Sep thru 1st week of Nov. 3:30 to 5:00 PM at one of the 6 elementary
schools. Must commit to entire season. No football experience necessary. Coaching clinic will
teach you the rules and how to Coach.

BUDDIES-4-MATH
Teach elementary students Math through games and play! A wonderful volunteering opportunity
for high school students to work closely with elementary students on improving and building math
fluency. If you like math and would like to make a difference in a child's life, come join us as we
build confidence and interest in math. Volunteer hours count towards community service.

CHILDREN'S DISCOVERY MUSEUM-SAN JOSE
Lead groups of grammar school children in field observations on Guadalupe Creek in San Jose.
Program called BioSITE (Students Investigating Their Environment). Volunteers need to be
available Monday afternoons for training from 3:30-5:30 and either Tuesday or Wednesday
afternoons for teaching. Half year to full year commitment required.

GREEN PASTURES
Green pastures is a Group Home for children with physical and developmental disabilities. There
are volunteer opportunities in the home, after school and weekends, along with community

INDEPENDENT PEER SOCIALIZATION TRAINING PROGRAM
Offers after school program which meets every day from 2:30-5 pm. Disabled students who get
together to play games, do sports etc. students act as peer models. Please note that students
must call to make appointment - messages left by parents on behalf of the student will not be
returned. Also, students MUST have an appointment in order to volunteer. Drop-in volunteers will
be turned away. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.

The Riekes Center for Human Enhancement provides student the resources and opportunity for
the joy of self-enhancement. The Riekes Center works with people from various economical

TAFT COMMUNITY SCHOOL-HOMEWORK CENTER
P.A.L. Community Center Taft Community School is looking for tutors Tuesday and Wednesday
evenings from 5:00-7:00 p.m., beginning September 16, 2008. Choose the day and hours to
volunteer your time. Be a tutor for first through fifth grade students. Help provide a much needed
service to the local community. English and Spanish-speaking tutors needed. Tutors will be
required to complete a one-time training before tutoring.

TOPSoccer
Help players with mental or physical disabilities learn to play soccer. They are in need of buddies
for the Fall 2014 season. Soccer experience a plus but not required. The season will begin on
Saturday, Sept. 6th and end with the last game on Saturday, Nov. 8th. The fields should be
numbered for the first couple of weeks, so you can identify them. There is parking at the school
as well as on Peak Ave. (which is next to the fields). The hour of play will include warm up, drills,
and an abbreviated game under the guidance of the coaches.
