Responsible for managing a portfolio of inventions focusing on gene and cell therapies, biomaterials &
biomedical engineering and research tools generated at Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC).
 Intellectual Property (IP) Portfolio Management
Review, analyze and evaluate new disclosures for their technical development, patentability, commercial
potential and practical utilities. Develop strategy for portfolio management. Work with outside patent
attorneys to file and prosecute patent applications. Currently Manage over 200 dockets.
 Liaison and Services to Faculty Members and Research Staff
Assist faculty and researchers to disclose their inventions according to Cornell policy. Help inventors
crystallize any valuable IP from their work, including inventions, tangible research materials, and
copyrightable materials. Actively participate in Cornell-wide educational program to increase the general
awareness of IP issues. Coordinate with the appropriate staff to plan and implement outreach and economic
development activities. Current portfolio contains inventions from more than 80 inventors.
 Intellectual Property Licensing
Interact with the technology businesses and investment communities to promote utilization of Cornell IPs for
economic development. Actively transfer IPs generated at WCMC to industry partners so that they can be
developed into useful products for the public to advance the university's missions. Activities include
preparing marketing material for each docket available for licensing in my portfolio; marketing IPs to
potential licensees; drafting and negotiating license agreement with potential licensees; and maintaining good
rapport with existing and potential industry partners at all time. In the past three years, I successfully
negotiated 15 licenses including 3 startup licenses.

 Screened broad spectrum of technologies in the areas of Bio-Tech, Eco-Tech and Med-Tech to select
technologies that match with the potential business opportunities. Worked with business development team
to evaluate the commercialization potentials of the technologies. Participated in the creation of two portfolio
companies.
 Created extra value for the company by inventing new applications using the existing technologies. Resulted
in two provisional patent applications.
 Built and maintained relationships with technology partners such as universities, R&D laboratories and
companies. Worked with inventors to develop sponsored research plans.

Participated in the preparation of a DRAPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) phase I research
proposal, which was granted with over $1 Million to develop a single-molecule DNA sensor. Developed and
implemented the strategy to meet the milestones set by DARPA. Prepared quarterly reports, presentations and
the phase II research proposal. Invented novel DNA detection methods that yielded two patent applications.
Supervised a team of graduate students, postdocs, and technicians.

Responsible for developing technologies to increase the accuracy and decrease the cost of CodeLinkTM SNP
Bioarrays. Invented a novel method to rescue failed assay and eliminated the need for outside licensing.
Enabled one provisional patent application. Evaluated a broad range of technologies related to nucleic acid
testing. Managed relationships with external collaborators. Supervised a team of two scientists.

Responsible for advanced DNA genotyping technology development. Invented novel DNA multiplex
genotyping assays and sample preparation methods that resulted in >50% assay cost reduction and enabled
Sequenom to lunch flagship homogeneous MassEXTENDTM assay. Co-inventor of several patents and patent
applications. Built and maintained relationships with internal and external collaborators, and with vendors.
Evaluated a broad range of technologies for potential licensing opportunities. Introduced MassArrayTM
technology to China creating opportunity for market penetration. Supervised a team of three scientists.

Responsible for establishing and managing the chemistry program. Invented and developed Chromagen’s
flagship commercial product StarBrightTM series fluorescent labels and substrates. Established and managed
multi-functional teams of new fluorescent dye development and DNA probe design, synthesis, and screening.
Developed research plans and worked closely with the senior management and other department heads to
implement plans and meet timelines for the development of commercial product HPSATM series gene expression
assays. Presented Chromagen’s technologies to investors and collaborators for evaluation and due diligence.
