Pastor’s Paragraphs
Pastor’s Paragraphs Praise the Lord for a wonderful Sunday. First, we were rejoicing in a public profession of faith and wonderful worship services. Additionally, we were so pleased at the response of our church family to a reminder of our stewardship needs. As you may note from the financial report on the back of this mailing, we received approximately $20,000 over the weekly budget needs. That is a grand beginning towards bringing our actual ministry costs for the year in line with giving. I am grateful for the help of so many who shared testimonies Sunday about the blessings of being part of God’s work. I learned from some of the discussions that some were not aware we were behind in budget giving and exactly how that related to costs. There is never one perfect way to communicate. The guy who figures out how to tell everyone what they need to know and when they need to know it, wins a reward of immense proportions. While we do give financial reports on the back of our mail-out and discuss reports in Quarterly Business Meetings, we will seek to do a better job of keeping everyone informed. I would remind everyone the budget is a general plan for spending and we seek each year to keep spending under the actual budget figures. However, the pattern of giving for many people is not regular. Many wait until the end of the year and it makes planning very difficult when expenses are ongoing throughout the year. The Biblical plan of “laying aside on the first day of the week” or “putting aside the first fruits” may sound old, but it is the most practical way of Christian stewardship. If we all give as we receive, churches could plan more effectively and would not be behind. We are aware it is hard to truly “catch-up” if you have not been faithful all year. If you struggle with that process, let me suggest strongly that you consider “on-line giving” as an outstanding way to help each of us to be regular in stewardship all through the year. “On-line giving” is easy to set up, secure in transaction and a spiritually fulfilling way to honor God with your tithes and offerings. The number is growing in our church including about fifteen families who have moved to that manner in the last couple of months. If you are not sure how to do it from the website, please contact Dan Harrison who can assist you in the process. Your giving decisions will be just as private and secure as if you gave in a check or otherwise with an envelope. It is my strong prayer that by the end of November we can celebrate having caught (continued on page 2) Vol. 58 No. 44 / Friday, November 7, 2014 www.EHBConline.com EHBC, Montgomery, AL (Pastor’s Paragraphs continued from page 1) up so that giving has met the expenses so far this year. Since we were approximately $100,000.00 behind in giving to date, we have made an excellent beginning. Let’s all continue to be faithful in these weeks of gratitude which lead up to Thanksgiving. We come to the final session of “Connect” this Sunday evening. This has been an outstanding series of Sunday evenings focusing on our relationships as believers with one another and the Lord. Thank you to Ricky for leading in this helpful time together. I encourage each of you to plan to attend this final session even if you have not been with us in the others. Finally, don’t forget the Scripture theme for November: “Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I Thess. 5:16-18.
