By becoming adept at DBT, clinicians can reduce their own anxiety, and increase their effectiveness with clients who are complex, multi-diagnostic, and may present with symptoms such as suicidality, dangerous impulsivity, or aggression. DBT principles, as well as specific individual and group therapy skills, are presented. This is a fastpaced interactive presentation that consistently receives some of our highest reviews. WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Individuals who are interested in learning DBT therapy, or those who have learned it but want to refresh their basic skills, will benefit. This is a foundational training. LEARNING OBJECTIVES On completion, participants will be able to: 1. Understand the DBT biosocial theory ABOUT THE TRAINER Mark Schorr, LPC, CADCI, is the program manager for the Trauma Recovery Program. He received his Master of Arts degree in counseling psychology from Lewis and Clark College. A therapist since 1991, Mark previously was Director of Staff Development for the region’s largest behavioral healthcare agency. Known for his engaging style and sense of humor, Mark brings DBT to life for front line practitioners interested in enhancing their skills in working with difficult-to-treat, emotionally dysregulated clients. As an experienced DBT clinician, Mark is known for offering practical interventions in real-world settings. He has done trainings from Beijing, China to New York, at settings including prisons, hospitals, and outpatient clinics. Mark received advanced intensive training by DBT treatment developer, Marsha M. Linehan, PhD, and receives supervision from DBT experts Linda Dimeff, PhD and Amy Wagner, Ph.D. 2. Conceptualize the five elements of BPD dysregulation into treatment planning 3. Explain the significance of dialectics and balancing change with acceptance 4. List DBT assumptions and understand how they impact treatment 5. List the key elements of DBT stages and targets 6. Understand why full fidelity DBT is an important goal 7.
