Teamcenter system monitoring automation (TSMA), which is an Advanced Technical Services (ATS) offering, provides a Siemens PLM Software expert to guide the implementation of a cost-effective solution that can automate the collection of metrics from servers, clients and applications. The solution uses Nagios XI, which is a popular application monitoring software that supports the use of Java Mmanagement Eextensions (JMX) technology, to collect available performance metrics from the Teamcenter application tiers using the Siemens PLM Software-provided plugins, and presents the results in graphical form. The application-level metrics together with the representative client performance-level metrics provide a continuous snapshot of Teamcenter application health and behavior, enabling the administrators to stay ahead of any issues in addition to reporting overall system health. Overview The Siemens PLM Software expert will provide the configuration and installation prerequisites for the system monitoring solution and the required Teamcenter plugins, and will then configure the Nagios XI application with standard Siemens PLM Software dashboards for different Teamcenter tiers. Scope The Teamcenter system monitoring automation services will cover the following: • Provide prerequisites for required third-party software downloads and installation www.siemens.com/plm ADVANTEDGE Teamcenter system monitoring automation • Provide instructions for enabling monitoring of Teamcenter application tiers prior to the monitoring automation implementation • Guide the monitoring automation implementation of the following supported Teamcenter components: - Teamcenter web tier (J2EE only) - Teamcenter enterprise tier - Teamcenter file management system (FMS) - Teamcenter dispatcher components (scheduler/module/client) - Flexlm license management - Teamcenter client performance • Install Nagios XI Remote Plugin Executor (NRPE) for the platforms to be monitored • Install and configure Nagios XI with the Teamcenter plugins • Validate collection of metrics from each of the planned monitoring hosts • Configure Nagios XI dashboards with a standard Siemens PLM Software template • Provide guidance on monitoring other non-Teamcenter applications, such as Oracle databases and web application servers Prerequisites TSMA requires the following prerequisites: • Teamcenter version 9.1 or above • Installation of Nagios XI on CentOS Linux platform (to be acquired by customer) • Enablement of monitoring the Teamcenter application tiers listed under scope • Availability of database administrator (DBA), network and Teamcenter system/ application administrator and project manager to provide information and access to the environment • Make available the Teamcenter deployment information, including locations, server OS platforms and application versions Duration Typically, requires two weeks per Teamcenter site, including: • One week of offsite support to define and plan deployment activities • Two days to one week or more for onsite delivery depending on the number of servers and implementation complexity Deliverables Installed and configured Nagios XI monitoring dashboard for the Teamcenter application tiers as listed in the scope section For more information please contact ATS.plm@siemens.com or the services manager in your country.
