BOX 25063 SCOTT AFB, IL 62225-0063 Trail Rating: 2B EVENT: MA14-98739 SPONSORED BY: ILLINOIS TREKKERS VOLKSSPORT CLUB NATIONAL SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF THE SNOWS THE CITY OF BELLEVILLE TOURISM WELCOME TO THE ANNUAL “WAY OF LIGHTS” WALK WHAT IS A VOLKSMARCH: A volksmarch is a leisurely walk through a scenic, historic, and/or interesting area over a clearly marked trail. The walk is a family oriented, noncompetitive walk done at your own pace. An achievement program is available to keep track of your accomplishments. PARTICIPANT INFORMATION LOCATION: National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows Shrine Hotel, 451 S. De Mazenod Drive, Belleville, Illinois 62223-1096 (see map on back). PARKING: There is ample free parking to the left of the gift shop and restaurant area across from the hotel. START/FINISH: Start inside hotel lobby anytime between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Walk or jog at your own pace. You must be on the trail by 6 p.m. and finished by 8 p.m. Event will take place regardless of weather. For safety purposes, please BRING A FLASHLIGHT! “Snows safety personnel ask that walkers stay on sidewalks / off the road due to vehicles being driven TO VIEW lights.” WALK: 5K trail is marked--for 10K, walk trail twice & 20K, walk trail four times. Suitable for strollers or wheelchairs but may experience some difficulty due to hills. Walk will be on paved paths and roads. ELIGIBILITY: This event is open to everyone and all ages are welcome. An adult must accompany children under the age of 12. Pets are welcome but must be kept on a leash and it is your responsibility to clean up after your pet(s). REGISTRATION FEES: Credit only is $3.00. All participants must pay the $3.00 (no free walkers). Paid walkers can repeat the 10K course a second time to receive 20K credit at no additional cost. IVV books are available at the start/finish for $5.00 each. There is no pre-registration for this event and no refunds PROCEDURE: Each person must fill out a start card and sign it before starting to walk. Carry this card with you on the walk and present it at the checkpoints. Walkers missing a checkpoint may be refused IVV credit. Start cards remain the property of the Illinois Trekkers and must be turned in at the finish point when the walk is completed. AWARDS: “B” awards will be available for $1 each. Additionally, various items are available for sale at the Shrine Gift Shop. REFRESHMENTS: Hot Russian tea and water will be provided at the checkpoint. Food and beverage are available at the Shrine Restaurant in the Visitors Center. To obtain info on Shrine Hotel call (618) 397-1162. DIRECTIONS: FROM I-64, I-55, or I-70: Exit South on I-255 to Route 15 (Exit 17 East). Go approximately 2 miles. Exit into Shrine complex on your right. FROM BELLEVILLE: Take Route 15 West to Shrine complex on left. Once on grounds follow signs to Shrine Hotel.
